Sebastian Fundora promoter says 'Towering Inferno' will face Ermal Hadribeaj in fall

Sebastian Fundora’s long-time promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, says the WBC junior-middleweight champion’s next fight will be against his No. 1 mandatory contender, Ermal Hadribeaj, and any potential unification fight against Jaron “Boots” Ennis would happen in 2027 at the soonest, if it did.

“Sebastian Fundora will comply with the WBC and face his No. 1 mandatory next,” said Lewkowicz. “A fight with Ennis could happen, but some time next year.”

Lewkowicz says Coachella, California’s Fundora, 24-1-1 (16 KOs) will face Miami via Albania’s Hadribeaj, 23-0-1 (8 KOs), in the fall of this year.

Hadribeaj was last seen winning a 12-round final mandatory elimination bout, and the WBC Silver junior middleweight title, with a unanimous decision over France’s Bakary Samake, live on ProBoxTV in May.

Fundora’s last appearance was a surprisingly comfortable sixth-round stoppage of former unified welterweight world champion Keith Thurman in March.

What a clash of titans! The sheer thought of Fundora's reach against Hadribeaj's power – an unmissable spectacle. My mind races with potential outcomes; truly a boxing fan's dream. Imagine the strategy involved!

Hadribeaj is not a bad fighter - continental level or the lower end of world class - but he's not at the level of Fundora. The Albanian-American may have some success early, but I don't think it will last as Fundora takes over after the first third of the bout.

Sebastian Fundora to fight Ermal Hadribeaj, Ortiz and Ennis must wait

Whatever objections exist, Sebastian Fundora has booked his next junior-middleweight title defense.

With newly unified 154lbs champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis and WBC interim champion Vergil Ortiz Jnr both clamoring for a bout with the 6ft 6ins WBC champion, BS has learned that Fundora, 24-1-1 (16 KOs), is now inked to fight his mandatory contender Ermal Hadribeaj, 23-0-1 (8 KOs), October 17 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Fundora committed to fight Miami-trained Hadribeaj days after Ennis defeated WBO and WBA beltholder Xander Zayas and days before the unbeaten Ortiz resolved contractual issues with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

Ennis’ promoter Eddie Hearn has shifted away from earlier talk this year that a showdown with Ortiz would be the best fight to make on the American landscape.

But now that Ennis has two belts, Hearn said the focus is to be undisputed champion at 154, which puts throws the promoter's IBF boss Josh Kelly into the mix, but the Englishman suffered a serious nose injury and it’s unclear if he’ll fight again this year.

Fundora promoter Sampson Lewkowicz responded to recent criticism by Ortiz manager Rick Mirigian by stating that his charge is interested in meeting the Ennis-Kelly winner next. Should all that play out, Ortiz will be forced to wait even longer for a title shot.

The Carson card will be a Premier Boxing Champions show on DAZN.

This has been a dog sh*t year of Boxing honestly. We're in August with stuff being announced for October and November and what's the biggest fight that's happened this year?

Wardley vs Dubois I guess right?
Teofimo vs Shakur was a fairly big matchup.
Usyk vs Rico turned out to be good even though everyone was sh*tting on it beforehand

What else has happened this year?

Figueroa faces Kameda in co-feature to Fundora vs Hadribeaj in Las Vegas

Brandon Figueroa defends his WBA featherweight title against Tomoki Kameda at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in October

Brandon Figueroa defends his WBA featherweight title against Tomoki Kameda on October 17 at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The championship clash serves as the co-feature to Sebastian Fundora’s title defense against Ermal Hadribeaj.
  • Two-division champion Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KOs) of Weslaco, Texas, makes the first defense of his title, having claimed the belt against Nick Ball by 12th-round TKO in February.
  • Japan’s former champion Kameda (42-5, 23 KOs) makes his latest attempt to become a champion in his second weight class after falling short by majority decision to Angelo Leo for the IBF featherweight title last May.
The card will stream live on TNT, truTV, and DAZN. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster.

What they’re saying

“I’m feeling strong, sharp and ready to defend my title,” said Figueroa. “We’ve been pushing hard this camp and making sure I’m prepared for anything. Fans know I always come to fight, so expect a show October 17 in Las Vegas.”

Kameda said, “I’m coming to take advantage of this opportunity on October 17 and leave Las Vegas world champion once again. Brandon Figueroa is a great champion and I know that when the bell rings, we’re going to give the fans a fight they’ll remember.”
  • In the recently announced main event, Sebastian Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs), 28, of West Palm Beach, Florida, makes the fourth defense of his WBC super welterweight title against Miami-based Ermal Hadribeaj (23-0-1, 8 KOs) of Albania.
  • Also on the card is a rescheduled super middleweight bout between two-division champion Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Australia’s Koen Mazoudier (15-4-1, 6 KOs). The contest was confirmed after Mazoudier defeated Sam Beck by majority decision on the Tszyu vs Mahoney undercard this past Wednesday.
Other bouts featured on the card are expected to be announced shortly.

October 17 set for Sebastian Fundora and Brandon Figueroa double-header

Sebastian Fundora will defend his WBC junior middleweight title against mandatory challenger, Ermal Hadribeaj, on a PBC show on October 10 that will also feature Brandon Figueroa risking his WBA featherweight strap against Tomoki Kameda.

Further down the bill, which takes place at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas and will be broadcast on TNT and DAZN, also features Jermall Charlo against Australian Koen Mazoudier.

“Camp is going great! October 17 is going to be an exciting night for boxing fans, Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora will be taking over Las Vegas once again,” Fundora, 24-1 (16 KOs), is quoted as saying via the marketing material.

Fundora was last seen in March, stopping the aging Keith Thurman in six rounds. That showcase two months before Hadribeaj secured his shot with victory on the cards against Bakary Samake.

“I’m working hard to be at my best and become world champion on October 17,” said Hadribeaj, 23-0-1 (8 KOs), in the media release “This is what I’ve worked for my entire career, and I’m going to be prepared for the fight Fundora is gonna bring. If he takes me lightly, he’s gonna be in for a big surprise.”

Figueroa, 27-2-1 (20 KOs), reinvigorated his career in February when he dethroned Nick Ball in the then-champion’s homeland of Liverpool, England.

“I’m feeling strong, sharp and ready to defend my title,” said Figueroa in the prepared statement. “We’ve been pushing hard this camp and making sure I’m prepared for anything. Fans know I always come to fight, so expect a show October 17 in Las Vegas.”

The bout with Kameda, 42-5 (23 KOs), was originally set to take place in Carson, California, but has been switched to Las Vegas.

Kameda hasn’t fought since losing the IBF featherweight title to Angelo Leo in May last year.

“I’m coming to take advantage of this opportunity on October 17 and leave Las Vegas world champion once again,” said Kameda. “Brandon Figueroa is a great champion and I know that when the bell rings, we’re going to give the fans a fight they’ll remember.”

Charlo and Mazoudier were also originally supposed to do battle elsewhere.

Originally scheduled for Australia in July, on the Tim Tszyu-Errol Spence card, the 34-0 (23 KOs) Charlo will now make his return in more familiar surroundings.

“I’ve been waiting on this moment and I’m ready to get back in there and remind everybody who Jermall Charlo is,” said Charlo. “I was ready to fight in July, and when that didn’t happen, I went right back to the gym and kept working. I know my fans have been waiting to see me and I’m gonna step into the ring hungry, focused and with a lot to prove. Mazoudier is coming to make a name for himself, but he’s standing in the way of where I’m trying to go. October 17, I’m coming to make a statement.”

Sebastian Fundora vs Ermal Hadribeaj official for October 17th on TNT and DAZN

The Cosmopolitan hosts two title fights and Jermall Charlo’s return

PBC announced yesterday that WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora will defend his title against mandatory challenger Ermal Hadribeaj atop an October 17th TNT/DAZN tripleheader at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KO), sticking to his customary two-fight-per-year schedule, sees action for the first time since running over Keith Thurman this past March. A potential undisputed showdown with either Jaron Ennis or Josh Kelly loom large for next year, but he’ll first have to get past Miami-based Albanian Hadribeaj (23-0-1, 8 KO), who upset fellow unbeaten Bakary Samake in a ProBox-aired final eliminator in May.

He’s solid enough as far as mandatory challengers go, and with most of the rest of the division top 15 reeling from recent losses, he’s arguably one of the better opponents available for Fundora while fellow titlists Ennis and Kelly sort things out amongst themselves.

“Camp is going great! October 17 is going to be an exciting night for boxing fans, Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora will be taking over Las Vegas once again,” said Fundora.

“I’m working hard to be at my best and become world champion on October 17,” said Hadribeaj. “This is what I’ve worked for my entire career, and I’m going to be prepared for the fight Fundora is gonna bring. If he takes me lightly, he’s gonna be in for a big surprise.”

In the middle slot goes WBA featherweight champ Brandon Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KO), who blew away Nick Ball to claim the belt in one of the most comedically proportioned matchups you’ll ever see. Though he’s got his sights set on a future date with Naoya Inoue, his first defense comes against one of “The Monster’s” more seasoned countrymen: Tomoki Kameda (42-5, 23 KO). The former bantamweight champ is coming off a tight split decision loss to IBF titlist Angelo Leo and is the sort of pocket slugger that could easily produce fireworks with Figueroa.

“I’m feeling strong, sharp and ready to defend my title,” said Figueroa. “We’ve been pushing hard this camp and making sure I’m prepared for anything. Fans know I always come to fight, so expect a show October 17 in Las Vegas.”

“I’m coming to take advantage of this opportunity on October 17 and leave Las Vegas world champion once again,” said Kameda. “Brandon Figueroa is a great champion and I know that when the bell rings, we’re going to give the fans a fight they’ll remember.”

The opener pits Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KO) against super welterweight Koen Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KO) in a rescheduled showdown originally set for July in Australia before Charlo failed to get a visa. It was a stupid matchup when they first proposed it and it’s even dumber now considering that Mazoudier being a New South Wales boy fighting in front of local fans was literally the only thing it had going for it.

“I know I’m the underdog and I don’t care,” said Mazoudier. “I’m coming to take down a legend, I’m not just going there for a payday…I’m going there to win. I’ve never taken a backward step in my life, and I’m sure as hell not starting on October 17. I’m coming to take Charlo down.”

Fundora-Hadribeaj Headlines PBC Card October 17 In Las Vegas

A pair of title fights and a rescheduled encounter will headline the fourth installment of DAZN and TNT’s “The Fight” series on October 17 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

The show will be presented by Premier Boxing Champions and TGB Promotions. The main event will featured heavily favored WBC 154-pound champion Sebastian Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs), who will attempt to defend his title for the fourth time against unbeaten Albanian Ermal Hadribeaj (23-0-1, 8 KOs), who is his mandatory challenger.

Fundora impressively stopped former WBA/WBC welterweight champ Keith Thurman in his last fight March 28 in Las Vegas. Hadribeaj solidified his WBC position to challenge Fundora over Vergil Ortiz Jr., the WBC interim super welterweight champ, by besting Bakary Samake via unanimous decision May 23 in Oberhausen, Germany.

In the co-feature October 17, Brandon Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KOs) aims to defend his WBA featherweight title for the first time since he upset Nick Ball by 12th-round technical knockout six months ago against Japanese contender Tomoki Kameda (42-5, 23 KOs). Kameda last fought in May 2025 in Osaka, where he suffered a majority-decision defeat against IBF 126-pound champion Angelo Leo.

Setting up the title fights will be the rescheduled 10-round super middleweight bout between former two-division titleholder Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) and Koen Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KOs).

Houston’s Charlo and Australia’s Mazoudier were supposed to square off July 26 on the Tim Tszyu-Errol Spence undercard in Sydney, but Charlo had visa issues that prohibited him from entering the country to face the huge underdog on his home soil.

Charlo last fought in May 2025, when he stopped Thomas LaManna in the sixth round in Las Vegas. Mazoudier boxed Wednesday, when he defeated Sam Beck (8-2, 5 KOs) by majority decision in a 10-rounder in Broadbeach, Australia.

Had my hopes pinned on Vergil orJaron for Fundora.
Won't be seeing Fundora against either of those two one way or the other until next year.

Brandon Figueroa aims to prove he's the man at featherweight against Tomoki Kameda

Brandon Figueroa says he continues reinventing himself under the guidance of trainer Manny Robles and will be looking to prove he’s the top 126-pound fighter in the world against former beltholder Tomoki Kameda on Saturday, October 17.

Two-weight titlist Figueroa, 27-2-1 (20 KOs), of Weslaco, Texas, and former WBO bantamweight champion Kameda, 42-5 (23 KOs), of Osaka, Japan, will meet in the 12-round co-main event of the latest installment of “The Fight” live on TNT and DAZN (8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT) from The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, headlined by the Sebastian Fundora vs. Ermal Hadribeaj fight for Fundora’s WBC junior middleweight championship.

Following his rematch loss to Stephen Fulton, Figueroa parted ways with father and trainer, Omar Figueroa Snr, to enlist Robles, who helped him prepare for his 12-round unanimous decision victory over Joet Gonzalez in July 2025.

In their next fight together, Figueroa and Robles went on to upset then undefeated champion Nick Ball by 12-round stoppage to take his title in February of this year.

Figueroa says that working with Robles, most famous for guiding Andy Ruiz to his upset victory over Anthony Joshua, has allowed him to further develop his world-class skills.

“Manny Robles has a lot of experience, and I learn from him and his team every day,” Figueroa revealed. “After the loss to Fulton, I said that I wanted to make some changes. I want to be one of the best fighters on the planet. I feel like Manny and I are just getting started.

“I always come to fight. I prepare myself 110% and always give my all in the ring. Now with Manny Robles guiding me and honing my skills I’ve shown that I can keep improving with every fight. That’s what I want to keep on doing.”

With both men coming from fighting families, Figueroa’s older brother, Omar Figueroa Jnr, is a former WBC lightweight titlist, while Kameda’s brothers are former champions Koki and Daiki Kameda, 29-year-old Figueroa says he’s ready for a war but will use the performance to cement himself as the top man in his division.

“Japanese and Mexican fighters always make a great fight,” said Figueroa. “They’re going to try to implement their strategy, but I’ve seen it all. I feel like I’m a young veteran in this sport. I’m excited to get in there and mix it up… Come October 17, I’m gonna stamp why I’m the best 126-pounder in the world. I’m ready to fight whoever. I want to fight the best. It’s not just about the belts; it’s about fighting the big names. That’s most important to me.

“I’m preparing myself like I’m fighting Nick Ball again. Whether I’m the challenger or not, I’m coming with everything. I know fight fans are gonna fall in love with my style, again and again, because I’m never in a boring fight… I came out here to LA for a reason. I wanted to make sure that winning is inevitable. I worked my butt off and I’m gonna keep doing so. I love boxing because you can always reinvent yourself and come out stronger. On October 17 I’m going to demonstrate why I’m the best 126-pounder in the world.”

Also on the main card, two-division champion Jermall Charlo squares off against Australian contender Koen Mazoudier in the super middleweight opening bout of the Premier Boxing Champions broadcast.

Starting to wonder if Fundora is going to step up against any of the big boys in the division or just keep beating up old guys and no-hopers like Hadribeaj. With his frame, he should move up because the middleweight division is azz and he could easily win alphabet belts there. I would make him a favorite against any of the paper belholders at 160

Fundora dismisses Hadribeaj’s KO talk; sees ‘no threat at all’

Sebastian Fundora laughed off Ermal Hadribeaj’s bravado.

Fundora’s unknown upcoming opponent has repeatedly predicted he’ll knock out the heavily favored Fundora on October 17 in Las Vegas. Hadribeaj has a low knockout ratio (33 percent) and the Miami-based Albanian contender hasn’t beaten anyone nearly as accomplished or as formidable as Fundora, who will defend his WBC super welterweight title.

Fundora respects his mandatory challenger’s confidence just the same.

“I actually have him on social media, so I see everything that he’s posting,” Fundora told The Ring. “They tag me, the coach tags me and everything, their game plan and everything like that. I mean, it’s boxing’s new era, where they have to show everything and show who they’re sparring, and this and that and that. But, you know, I been hearing knockout this, knockout that. I mean, look at [Keith] Thurman, the last guy. I mean, he said he was gonna knock us out, too, so what’s new?”

Fundora tore through Thurman on his way to a sixth-round stoppage in his last match March 28 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. That dominant win was Fundora’s fourth straight since Brian Mendoza upset him by seventh-round knockout in April 2023.

The 6-foot-6 southpaw’s comeback from his lone loss has elevated him to the No. 3 spot in The Ring’s 154-pound rankings. Only WBA/WBO champ Jaron Ennis (34-0, 32 KOs, 1 NC) and WBC interim champ Vergil Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) are ranked ahead of Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs) among the top 10 contenders for our vacant championship.

Philadelphia’s Ennis is the opponent Fundora expects to face in a full title unification fight one day, but the Coachella, California native declined to discuss Ennis because his full focus is on the left-handed Hadribeaj (23-0-1, 8 KOs). Their 12-round fight is the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card DAZN will stream worldwide and TNT and truTV will televise in the United States from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Hadribeaj beat previously undefeated French contender Bakary Samake (19-1, 11 KOs) in his last fight. He won that 12-round WBC elimination bout by unanimous decision May 23 in Oberhausen, Germany, but Fundora intends to teach him what it’s like to lose two weeks from Saturday night.

“He’s been winning,” Fundora said. “He’s a undefeated fighter. That’s all I can really say that benefits him right now, that he has no mindset of losing, right? So, it’s gonna [take] a little bit more to break him. But we’re still gonna get that job done, no matter what. Boxing-wise, IQ-wise or anything, I don’t see no threat at all.

“Punching power? No, there’s not really anything in my mindset that is realistic in that situation. But, you know, he’s undefeated, so he’s not gonna want to lose. But again, we’ve fought plenty of undefeated fighters, we’ve took lots of Os already. It’s nothing new to me.”

Reading this kind of made me wince. I like Fundora and think he's at the head of the class in SWW, but it seems to me like he's really taking Hadribeaj lightly. The US-based Albanian is undefeated, and, while he only has 8 KOs in 23 wins, I can't help but think about Munguia getting sparked out by Surace, who had only 5 KOs in 25 wins.

I'm certainly not saying that Hadribeaj is going to pull of the upset - I don' think that's going to happen - but Fundora, who has been stopped in the past and occasionally hurt, shouldn't be talking and acting like he poses no threat in the ring. Confidence is one thing, but so is over-confidence, which can lead to trouble.

INJURY KNOCKS JERMALL CHARLO OUT OF OCT. 17 BOUT; RESENDIZ STEPS IN

Jermall Charlo has injured himself at training camp, leading to his withdrawal from his Oct. 17 return against Koen Mazoudier, sources tell The Ring.

Former titleholder Jose Armando Resendiz is replacing Charlo in the 10-round super middleweight bout at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The fight will open the DAZN on TNT tripleheader headlined by Sebastian Fundora's title defense.

It's a strong replacement on 10 days' notice.

Resendiz-Mazoudier shapes up as an action fight between two aggressive 168-pounders.

Details of Charlo's injury weren't immediately available.

Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs), a 27-year-old who trains in South Gate, California, is coming off a title loss to Jaime Munguia in May. Munguia won a lopsided unanimous decision (120-108, 119-109, 117-111) in Las Vegas to capture the WBA 168-pound title in Resendiz's first defense.

Resendiz won the WBA interim title with a split-decision upset of Caleb Plant, a -2500 favorite, in May 2025 on the same card as Charlo's last fight, to earn The Ring's 2025 Upset of the Year. He was elevated to full champion Jan. 1.

Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KOs), a 31-year-old from Blacktown, Australia, has won four straight since a ninth-round TKO loss to Nikita Tszyu in August 2024. He won the Australian 154-pound title in that run and defended it twice.

His last fight was a majority decision (97-93, 96-94, 95-95) over Sam Beck on Aug. 26 on the Gold Coast, a victory that kept the Charlo fight alive.

Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs), 36, was originally set to fight Mazoudier on the Tim Tszyu-Errol Spence undercard in July, but he ran into a visa issue for the fight in Australia.

The former two-division champion last competed in May 2025, when he dropped Thomas LaManna three times en route to a sixth-round stoppage in Las Vegas. That victory ended an 18-month layoff.

Charlo was slated to challenge Resendiz for the WBA title, but he was pulled from the fight and replaced by Munguia.

Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs) defends his WBC junior middleweight title against unbeaten mandatory challenger Ermal Hadribeaj in the main event. Brandon Figueroa makes the first defense of his WBA featherweight title against Tomoki Kameda in the co-feature.

Charlo has fought just four times since 2020.

An opportunity for Resendiz to get back in the win column, and Mazoudier actually gets a fight after having the bout with Charlo in Australia fall through the cracks. Still, not a great match up; a former SMW champ (I know, I know) against a largely untested SWW fighting away from Australia for just the second time (the first time was in Fiji six and a half years ago).

Wardley vs Dubois I guess right?
Teofimo vs Shakur was a fairly big matchup.
Usyk vs Rico turned out to be good even though everyone was sh*tting on it beforehand

What else has happened this year?
Monster Inoue vs Junto Nakatani was the biggest fight of the year. Fundora is milking his alphabet belt, as he has for the past year
