Goodman is starting to feel the pace now, and when he hangs out at mid range Nishida is able to get him more frequently. The heavy pressure is working for Goodman, but the engine it takes to keep that up may be unsustainable. He's given a world class go of it up to this point though that's for sure.

Nishida's round in the 7th though.

I'd probably have it something like 5-2 Goodman at this point.

Both fighters get a point deducted in the 8th. Goodman for a headbutt which caused a cut on Nishida. Nishida for a low blow. The point deductions cancel each other out. I thought Goodman won the round.

Think the ref did well there - realised his mistake effed up a great fight and quickly found a reasonable excuse to even it out. :salut:

Another point off !?

I praised the ref earlier, but he's making a great fight about him.
He could easily deduct no points and just let them fight - this is a minor classic. :salut: :box:

The ref is baaad and completely lost control. Old men shouldn't be in the ring, not as a fighter and not as a referee.

I got Goodman winning the fight up to now. Very competitive, and spirited fight, but his pressure has mostly nullified the effectiveness of most of Nishida's shots. He gets a good one in from time to time, but Goodman just keeps piling on the pressure, and Nishida has found it difficult to get the space he needs to land his shots.

To me all Goodman has to do over these last 2 rounds is stay upright, and he deserves this.

I agree, Goodman has been superb AND he's got a pt deduction advantage.

Even without it I think he's won the fight fair and square.

Point deductions really made no difference as I expected. The referee kinda being a doofus one more time even as they announce the winner as he seems to kinda stop Goodman from jumping up and down just so he can raise his hand

Dude really did wanna make it about him.

Scores were 114-111, 116-109 and 115-110 pretty sure that's what I heard.

Sam Goodman defeats Ryosuke Nishida by unanimous decision (114-111, 116-109, 115-110) in a Fight of the Year contender

I'd love to see Goodman vs Junto Nakatani, and having just faced a World Class Southpaw. Goodman would probably as prepared for a matchup like that as he's ever gonna be.

Inoue wins again. Unanimous decision.

Good fight. Nasukawa did better this time, but just can't get past Inoue's better inside game.
