Osleys Iglesias vs. Oliver Zaren | DAZN - October 8, 2026

Osleys Iglesias vs Oliver Zaren reportedly set for October 8th

Osleys Iglesias could face an undefeated Dane in Quebec this fall

Christian Mbilli’s Halloween showdown with Canelo Alvarez won’t be that month’s only October title defense, as Julius Julianis reports that IBF super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias will meet no. 5 Oliver Zaren on October 8th in the former’s eternal stomping grounds of Quebec.

Zaren (19-0-1, 8 KO), the other undefeated mid-20s Danish super middleweight, has spent the bulk of his career munching on limited foes in his home country. His one journey abroad came in June, when he traveled to Spain to battle Jose Luis Navarro Jr for the European title, built up an early lead on the scorecards, then had to settle for a no contest because they were boxing outside and a thunderstorm hit.

A losing record against atmospheric phenomena bodes ill for his chances against a Cuban “Tornado.” Iglesias (15-0, 14 KO) has looked like a potential vanguard of the post-Canelo era, demolishing all comers and only rarely deigning to lose a round. His last two efforts have seen him run over Vladimir Shishkin and Pavel Silyagin, the latter victory earning Iglesias his belt.

Not the most stirring matchup, but Zaren is reasonably high up in the rankings, Iglesias doesn’t have a mandatory challenger yet, and the other champions aren’t going to touch him with a 10-foot pole, so I suppose we’ve got to take what we can get.

Zaren is a good, young boxer, but I think he has bitten off more than he can chew with Iglesias. The Dane doesn't have the pop to keep the Cuban off him, so the bout could be exciting while it lasts.

This should be an interesting test for Iglesias, even if Zaren may not be the most dangerous opponent available at 168. An undefeated fighter with a solid ranking still gives Iglesias a meaningful challenge, especially with his title and growing reputation on the line. Iglesias has looked extremely sharp in his recent fights, so I’m curious to see whether Zaren can take him into the later rounds and make things competitive. If the fight happens in Quebec as reported, it should also give Iglesias a nice home advantage.

IGLESIAS: THEY CAN’T DUCK ME ANYMORE; I’M HERE TO BE UNDISPUTED

Osleys Iglesias was surprised when Hamzah Sheeraz gave up his WBO super middleweight title last month.

There isn’t anyone in the super middleweight division the unbeaten Cuban power puncher wouldn’t fight, especially if it meant surrendering the IBF 168-pound championship he sacrificed so much to win.

Iglesias (15-0, 14 KOs) would’ve loved to face England’s Sheeraz (24-0-1, 19 KOs) in a title unification clash, but he is more interested now in the winner of WBC champ Christian Mbilli vs. Canelo Alvarez on October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and WBA champ Jaime Munguia.

Iglesias isn’t optimistic that any of those three will be as willing to fight in 2027. He hopes, however, that the IBF belt he captured by stopping Russian contender Pavel Silyagin (16-1-1, 7 KOs) after eight one-sided rounds April 9 makes him a more appealing option.

“It’s not about me coming, I’m already here,” Iglesias told The Ring. “They can’t duck me anymore. After this fight, they’re gonna have to show up, because I’m here now. I’m here to be undisputed.

“Whoever has the titles, it’s time for a new king in the division. And I’m gonna crown myself the new king of the division, so I’m coming for anybody who has a title.”

Temporarily, though, Iglesias, 28, is fixated on Oliver Zaren, his opponent Thursday night in Quebec City.

DraftKings lists Igelsias as a 16-1 favorite to win the main event DAZN will stream from Capitole de Quebec (6:30 p.m. ET). The wide odds aside, Iglesias respects Zaren (19-0-1, 8 KOs), a 26-year-old southpaw from Roskilde, Denmark, for simply agreeing to get in the ring with him.

“He’s a great opponent, the type of opponent where you can’t get cocky,” Iglesias said. “It’s a title fight, so you can’t disrespect any of them. I’m ready for it.”

Iglesias, who has won nine straight bouts by knockout, is ranked No. 2 among The Ring’s contenders for a vacant super middleweight title. Mexico’s Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) is ranked No. 1 and Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) is No. 3.

If Iglesias produces another impressive victory over Zaren, the IBF’s fifth-ranked contender, all he can do is hope Alvarez, Mbilli or Munguia (46-2, 35 KOs) will want to prove he isn’t their division’s most feared fighter.

“Of course it’s frustrating,” Iglesias said. “At the same time, it’s God’s timing. Whenever He thinks I’m ready, I’ll be ready. But they don’t wanna fight me. I know I’m not an easy fight. I know I’m young, hungry and ready. I understand why they’re ducking me.”

I, too, believe he is the real deal and have thought he's the top SMW for a while now. I also question if the other top fighters at 168 will step up to face him, but I am not optimistic they will.

From some of the comments I've read about the Mathieu fight - I admit, I didn't watch it - Shishkin once again came out on the short end of a fight he could have realistically been named the winner.

I thought all 3 cards in the Shishkin fight were off the mark. 96-94 for the Canadian on my card but I'd accept 95-95.

Zaren was brave I'll give him that, thought Iglesias should've had a knockdown in the opener, ref ruled push but it looked like a right hook, Iglesias was in total control, was landing some crisp punches, not taking too many in return, Zaren fought mostly orthodox and did get in a few sneaky shots here and there but round 6 the wheels came off, ref missed another KD but Iglesias put Zaren down twice later in the round, more accumulation than anything, Zaren's face was a bloody mess and doc took ages to allow him out for the 7th, Iglesias smelt blood, was getting to work when the towel come in, good stoppage

The Canadian commentators were very biased in favor of the home boxers. They ignored Shishkin's punches, and when Mathieu missed, they got excited and said something like "hard right from Mathieu".

I thought Shishkin deserved to win. One scorecard was honest, the other 2 were not.
