Re: Liam Smith in talks over return to Matchroom
Was it his ankle? The way he was walking hunched a weird way even pre fight, I thought he had herniated a disc or had a hip issue.jameswilson wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025, 05:08I think the ankle injury didn’t help.
When he does the weight right and has a decent camp he is a very tough fighter to beat for everyone except the very best.
There was definitely more going on than a rolled ankle

He’s not fighting Denzel after then..unless the sanctioning body dances different
Re: Liam Smith in talks over return to Matchroom
Let's hope not. Other than name recognition, Smith hasn't done anything in the ring over the last three years to warrant a title shot. (Sure, stopping Eubank Jr. in January of 2023 was a nice win, but he followed that up by getting stopped by him in September of '23.) And quite frankly, even a dominating win over Kujala wouldn't have improved that profile. Full disclosure, I always liked Smith as a boxer.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑02 Sep 2026, 14:22 He’s not fighting Denzel after then..unless the sanctioning body dances different

Must be boxers in court season
Former world champion boxer Liam Smith has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after an alleged attack on a night concierge at a luxury Manchester apartment building.
Smith, who held the WBO super welterweight title from 2015 to 2016, was arrested after the man suffered serious facial injuries at The Blade on Silvercroft Street in Deansgate on 13 September, police confirmed.
The 38-year-old appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court the following day charged with causing GBH with intent, and was released on bail.
Smith, from Liverpool, is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 19 October, where he will be asked to enter a plea.

That explains the 'Calf' injury. He won't fight again now. That's his license suspended until the case has concluded.

Yeah that was poor. Lost respect for him over that. Gained some goodwill by humbling Eubank with an epic chicken dance but comments and behavior outside the ring leave a lot to be desired. Very disappointing. Does he give a flying f*ck if it comes across like that to people? I hope so. I remember he apologised for the gay remarks. We don't know the ins and outs with this situation so I'll reserve judgement on that. The gay comments are still bad.golden_labrador wrote: ↑30 Sep 2026, 15:56wasn't he calling Eubank gay too?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑30 Sep 2026, 15:24 didnt the smith bros get into some big brawl in the gay district a few years ago too

Liam Smith charged with grevious bodily harm after alleged attack
Former world champion Liam Smith has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after an alleged attack on a night concierge at a Manchester apartment building.
Police confirmed the 38-year-old Liverpudlian was arrested after the man suffered serious facial injuries on September 13. The alleged victim reportedly required surgery after the incident.
The next day, Smith appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court, charged with causing GBH with intent. He was released on bail.
Smith (33-5-1, 20 KOs) will be asked to enter a plea when he appears at Manchester Crown Court on October 19.
Smith hasn’t boxed since he was outpointed by Aaron McKenna in April 2025 but earlier this year he was linked to a fight with WBO middleweight champion Denzel Bentley.
A proposed return to action was scuppered when injury ruled him out of a trip to Finland and a September 4 fight with Ilaru Kujala.
Smith won the WBO 154-pound title with a one-sided win over John Thompson in October 2015.
In September 2016 he lost the belt to Mexican great Canelo Alvarez at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Smith scored his most famous victory in January 2023 when he stopped Chris Eubank Jr. in four rounds. After a build-up hampered by injury and weight issues, he was stopped in the 10th round of a rematch the following September.

Re: Liam Smith in talks over return to Matchroom
Dammit!
We expect some retired boxers to get in scuffles, but you can kinda pick the guys who will end up bashing some poor bastard.
I just didn't expect that of Liam.
Very disappointing.

Liam Smith soon to return to a British ring. Along with Liam Dillon, Cameron Dylan, Dylan Cameron, Liam Cameron, and Liam Cameron Dillon Smith
I swear there's like a dozen U.K. fighters with interchangeable names like that.

Not surprised have it on good authority the Smith's are bellends and not the nice boxing family made out to be.

I don't know them myself, but I am reliably informed this will have shocked absolutely nobody who knows him or has spent more than 5 minutes in his company
