I would agree if that were a big problem in the US, but it is also greatly exaggerted by the Fox News/Social Media keyboard warriors. When I lived in Georgia welfare was $225 a month for a family of four. Food stamps was about the same. Who in Atlanta was living on $450 a month, including immigrants? Likely few to nobody. A vast majority work. The welfare queens using their food-stamp money to buy Vodka is right out of the Reagan era of BS. I have no idea if that is true in Europe. My father-in-law in Spain gripes all the time about immigrants getting free health care and too much in the way of benefits in Spain, so maybe it is an issue here for poor immigrants. I am an immigrant on public health care, but I also pay income taxes/VAT taxes to help fund it
I'm sure it's exaggerated, but I'm also sure it exists. I haven't recently researched the Reagan/Fox claim, but my statement was a blanket statement about having the right attitude. Of course, good people use welfare in tough times.
Ironically most of the people I currently know who sit around doing f*ck all but collecting Government checks are Trump supporters.

Trump supporters who will bitch about immigrants taking jobs away from U.S. citizens even though these U.S. citizens haven't worked nor tried to work in quite some time.

People have trouble looking in the mirror and seeing themselves sometimes.
There was a great series(I can’t remember if it was the NY Times or the WPost) that TV picked up on about a tiny town in Alabama where almost everybody lived off of disability social security payments, which have become the de facto “welfare” system in the US. Alabama being a state where almost all white voters, like these folks, support MAGA.

They would crowd the local post office on the day the government checks were due to arrive. The story was about a guy with fairly limited education in his mid-30s who lived with his wife in a trailer with his parents. His parents and his wife were collecting Social Security disability checks for bad backs, and the story is about this guy trying to get technical school training and a job to avoid having to go on disability payments, which usually means permanent welfare and permanently limiting your chance of improving your lot in life.

. He was clearly conflicted. In the end, he says “eff it,” says he can’t work because of a bad back and joins the rest of his family getting Social Security disability payments for life. Not an immigrant, just a hick who knows the system

That does not surprise me at all ! MAGA are the biggest hypocrites. To admit my own prejudices, I am clearly more annoyed by a MAGA or foreigner taking welfare than a lazy Non political American. As I wrote, good people use welfare in tough times, but there is a slither of lazy MFrs, and there always has been. It's not ideal, but I definitely do not have the same hostility for a foreigner or MAGA (they also hate America but are too dub to know it) on welfare.

Islam is the elephant in the room here. My acid tests are do they drink any alcohol? Do they accept a person's conversion from Islam to another religion or no religion? If the answer to both are "yes," they are likely ok.

Ha! So true. We have three fruit and vegetable stands right next to each other down the street. Two run by Indian immigrants and one called Mustfa’s. I freely admit - being a good Catholic school boy - only frequenting the first two because they also sell wine and beer. I admit being prejudice on the issue, but it seems like the first too assimilated better than the third in a country that loves wine and beer

Too simplistic.

At an individual level yes.

There are many muslims in the UK who engage in the former, are involved in organised crime and are indeed in prison. Fundamentalist imams rarely criticise them because they are part of that tribe. They are expendable foot soldiers who help their theocratic political agenda largely because they are considered an oppressed minority by the ‘progressive’ left.

The tick box exercise is nothing more than that. You always have to scratch under the surface and do a deeper dive. That dive will reveal that they are disproportionately represented in positions of soft/lower level power like local councils and mayorships in the UK.

Challenging, criticising and lampooning any religious/political Ideology is something that the western world always did well. Islam shouldn’t be exempt. Neither should Identity politics in all its guises.

As far as I'm concerned not wanting Muslims in your Country is simply paying attention to World History. Where Muslims come War, Devastation and Oppression comes with them.

There are decent Muslim people just like there are with any group of people. The people that are Muslim and also decent folk I suspect are about like the Christians who are decent folk. They claim to be Muslim/Christian but they don't really ever go to the Church or take it all that seriously, they're just a regular sorta dude who identifies that way because their family identified that way.

Anybody that is truly devout as a Christian or a Muslim is not someone you're going to want to spend much time around.

No, I am not.

But I come in contact with Muslims every day in my neighborhood. The cashier I paid for my groceries about an hour ago is a Muslim. In the past, I've worked alongside Muslims, and supervised them (I'm retired now).

I've found them to be decent, friendly, law-abiding, honest, hard-working people. I've always been treated fairly by them, even though I sometimes wear a cross and they know I am a Christian.

I think most people from Muslim countries who come to America are just ordinary people seeking a better life for themselves.

So you like Islam because your local shopkeeper is a Muslim. Oh well then, in that case I'll revise my own opinion of Islam too, in the words of Father Ted: Muslims- "a great bunch of lads!"

I think this is a very common bigotry from zealots on both the left and right. Entire groups are castigated because of the action of extremist individuals. Entire Ideologies are condemned because of a tiny number of tenets.
No Muslim I have ever met thinks it's was / would be a good thing to keep slaves, rape little girls or slaughter men, women and children.. No fascist I have ever met thinks it was / would be a good thing to gas Jews, invade Poland or euthanise gays and the disabled.
Just look at the UK stats, this century. British fascist extremists have killed less than 10 people. British Muslim extremists have killed less than 350 people (mostly honour killings of other Muslims). In the same period British motorists have killed over 60,000 people.

Well exactly. Dickheads in their SUVs and chavs in their joyriding are far more realistic threats to the vast majority of average British people.

Religious criminal extremism and carless horrible driving share a common denominator vast stupidity. The latter may kill more people, but they are both serious problems.

We all stereotype and stereotypes usually have some truth. The first group is almost always Islamic, at least in the West, and the second group are usually young males.

In terms of who usually perpetrates the violence, both groups are predominantly young males (young for you and I). People who encourage the violence are often older bastards who don’t have to suffer the consequences, like Bone-Spur Donald, Netanyahu, the nutbag clerics and tin-pot dictators and “generals.”

The underlining problem with Islam is the dogmatism that underlies it. Those Muslims that are called extremists aren't extremists, they are simply the followers that are following their religion to the letter of the law. Those that don't follow the rules and laws set out in the Koran are considered bad Muslims. Anyone who says or believes otherwise is fooling themselves.

The Quran actually does not instruct the killing of gays (it is in a Hadith, but not in the Quran), but Leviticus 20:13 in the Torah commands people to kill gays.

1 Samuel 15 (Netanyahu's favorite chapter in the Nevi'im) has the prophet Samuel (who claimed God was speaking to him) ordering king Saul to kill ALL the Amalekites, including the babies, and kill all their farm animals. Later in the chapter, Samuel tells Saul God is disappointed in him because although he did kill all the people including the little babies, he didn't kill all the farm animals.

There are a few fanatics but mostly reasonable people in all religious groups. The extremist Wahhabi Muslims in ISIS are crazy, and the extremist Kach Jews are also nuts. But all of the 40-50 Muslims I've personally known are sane people, and nearly all the 25-30 Jews I've known are reasonable individuals.

Islamophobia is a lot like anti-Semitism. It blames an entire group of people for the actions of a few.

Brother pointing out that Christians have hatred along with Muslims is only proof of what I think that both of those Religions are 2 sides of the same Evil f*cking coin.

I loathe Christianity and Islam as the stains on our World that they are. I don't loathe all of the followers of these faiths because many people aren't courageous or intelligent enough to grow and think beyond the way they were raised and it's not their fault, but the Good that is in those people isn't in them because of their Faith. It's in them in spite of it.

The very title of this thread reveals your own hatred for Muslims.

I don't hate Jews, I just believe the life of a Palestinian child is worth as much as the life of a Israeli child.
No you don't. Otherwise you would have displayed videos from both sides. I started displaying videos from the other side to balance it out because no one else was.
