Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
I assumed the Ring Magazine purchase was for the belts rather than the magazine. Can’t see any value to the magazine or its “social media link” really. Thought they would basically run the Ring belt as the unofficial no1 belt…I never thought they would associate themselves with the other Governing bodies for long…
The Zuffa link up clouded this a bit for me.
Turki has said he’s unwell so he’s not exactly leaving boxing, more like all of us at some point..he’s leaving life.
Not sure why DAZN would buy the ring..it confuses me as much as the Saudi purchase of it..but there’s more than one shareholder at DAZN, so maybe this is one persons idea rather than a genuine DAZN purchase. I’d be surprised if DAZN are using there own money to buy Ring…

He was never rumoured that he was ill.
It’s been well documented. Since he first came on the scene.

Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
He said he was seriously ill at the AJ v Fury presser and wanted to do as much as he can before he goes.
The Ring randomly appeared in my local Smiths this month so I made sure to buy it. It's a decent enough read, but there are lots of Saudi ads in it, so many It's almost like an in flight magazine for their national airline. It came with a Benn v Garcia poster, which I'm not bothered about but a previous edition had a Hatton poster which is really good and up in my garage.
It's worth a tenner.

If the Saudis are leaving boxing it’s not due to Turki’s ill health. He was the second person they had leading boxing. He is a MBS ultra loyalist. If the Saudis want out of boxing Turki passing won’t have any bearing on it. It’s not his money or agenda. It’s MBS’ and the ruling family.
I have no ill wish towards anyone with ill health but proper journalists have already revealed his actions within Saudi. Another hand holding mouthpiece will emerge if the Saudis wish to remain in the sport.

Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
I’d be happy for him to leave. People like to think money makes fights, but it’s all relative, once people get use to the idea that people are getting millions they wait till they can.
I want boxers making as much money as possible for an actualy comersialy viable fight. Promoters running at a loss is great for a second, then it creates a bunch of boxers hanging out for the cash that might not ever come.
Dazn came on big with there billion and paid silly prices (Garcia vs Vargas? That was crazy shit), then it creates a tough time where everyone is waiting for cash but when it settles back to market value the millionaire don’t need it as much…
It’s kinda like when canelo is in a division, everyone just waits hoping for a 10 million dollar day…. When the Saudis are doing shows people just wait and hope the Saudis will over pay them…

Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
He wasn't interested in building boxing from the grass roots up and creating sustainable systems that will support boxing for the long term.
He splashed some cash, made some big fights and to then he'll be out.
But one thing he did do is get promoters to work together. I hope it anything comes out long term out of his involvement in the sport, it's this.
How many big fights go unmade because promoters can't work with each other.

Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
Agree with that. If Eddie and Frank were smart enough, they could build from this now that they're amicable. They have the resources to work together and get every British boxer under a unified banner giving them the ability to make great fights, control the relevant belts and build the sport nationwide without the fear they have of losing their belts or money to a rival promoter. It won't happen though but they see what Dana has done with the UFC as exclusively bad, it's not, it has elements of what the fans want but with major issues. They could replicate it but in a fixed way and see lots of success in the UK and Europe if they were willing to work together on a greater level.black panther wrote: ↑05 Oct 2026, 02:46 He wasn't interested in building boxing from the grass roots up and creating sustainable systems that will support boxing for the long term.

I was wondering how long the Saudis were going to continue to lose money

Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
Turki's a massive boxing fan. Once he passes, the money will stop soon after. There will still be the odd fight in Saudi, but I think it'll be more like a site fee deal.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑05 Oct 2026, 06:11 I was wondering how long the Saudis were going to continue to lose money
Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
I can't see what the Saudi's get out of boxing anymore ? With them having the World Cup in 2034 and having to build new stadiums and infrastructure I'd think their cash and energies will be going to that

Fights shouldn’t be too hard to make now, seeing as all promoters are with DAZN.

100% this. He's just a figurehead and a mouthpiece.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑04 Oct 2026, 17:24 If the Saudis are leaving boxing it’s not due to Turki’s ill health. Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
It’s hard to comprehend for a basic working man like me but these guys try to control things like Golf, Boxing and even pro gaming just for the fun of it. Hundreds of millions is literally pocket money to the royal family.
MBS is a big gamer and rumored to be a stoner. He bought SNK and then made new characters to go in his favorite fighting games. He’s like a big psychopathic child with hundreds of billions at his disposal. Turki was one of his key men in his hostile takeover bid. He looks like a gimp Tuk Tuk but he’s a dangerous little guy.

It ain't for the fun of it. Short term, it's about people seeing Saudi in a more positive way and long term, it's making Saudi a realist mass tourism destination.

It's going to take a revaluation of money.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Oct 2026, 06:53 Fights shouldn’t be too hard to make now, seeing as all promoters are with DAZN.
What the shows make, and how much of that gets passed in to the fighters.
Boxing isn't a growing sport. Most is now behind paywalls. If your curious about a sport are you paying a dazn subscription or a PPV?

Re: Turki Alashikh To leave Boxing
They're just gonna have to make new stars. The old ones are gonna expect the Moon in terms of payment, and the other promoters that aren't Turki won't be able to give it. They're gonna have to set the new pay range with the up and coming talents and build what comes next around them.KiwiRider wrote: ↑05 Oct 2026, 14:23It's going to take a revaluation of money.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Oct 2026, 06:53 Fights shouldn’t be too hard to make now, seeing as all promoters are with DAZN.
