I guess this takes Pacheco out of the sweepstakes to face Alimkhanuly for the vacant WBO title.

Diego Pacheco vs Darius Fulghum reportedly set for November 14th on TNT

Despite a title shot on the table, Diego Pacheco will allegedly continue his holding pattern against Darius Fulghum

Darshan Desai reports and Dan Rafael corroborates that super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco will face Darius Fulghum atop Matchroom’s November 14th “The Fight” show on TNT and DAZN.

Pacheco (26-0, 19 KO) snapped a three-fight finish drought this past July by clobbering Immanuwel Aleem to cap off a shutout in Carson. Despite turning down multiple title opportunities, he remains highly ranked, most notably sitting at no. 2 in the WBO rankings behind the recently elevated Janibek Alimkhanuly. With former titlist Hamzah Sheeraz punking out of a mandatory defense against Alimkhanuly over the weekend, Pacheco could have put his name forward to fight Alimkhanuly for the now-vacant belt.

Instead, he meets Fulghum (15-1-1, 13 KO) in another bold step sideways. “DFG” lost a tight decision to Bektemir Melikuziev on the strength of a last-round knockdown in last year’s WBA eliminator and subsequently drew with David Stevens in what was by all accounts an atrocious hugfest, but rehabbed in May by starching Cuban victim Yanki Urruita.

I just don’t understand what Pacheco’s plan is. He’s turned down Sheeraz, Christian Mbilli, and now Alimkhanuly in favor a matchup that does nothing for either his career or his technical development. He’s no. 3 with the WBC behind Canelo and Jacob Bank, the latter of whom will likely step up to the plate against Alimkhanuly, so maybe he’s following in Sheeraz’s footsteps and holding out for the bag in case Canelo beats Mbilli next month and the WBC predictably kicks interim champ Lester Martinez to the curb instead of giving him first crack.

I share your sentiment and have no clue what Pacheco's "plan" actually is. He's avoided match ups and title opportunities against boxers who are better than any on his record in favor of ones who do little more than protect the "0" on the right side of his ledger. The only reason I can see is the one you presented, Pacheco hopes for the somewhat unlikely shot at Alvarez and the corresponding payday should he defeat Mbilli, which I believe is far from a sure thing.

Diego Pacheco looks to vault to title fight in Darius Fulghum showdown

Diego Pacheco’s attempt to stamp himself as the heir apparent to rule a division wide open to young successors resumes with a November 14 home-region bout versus fellow top-10 contender Darius Fulghum, Matchroom Boxing announced Friday.

South Central Los Angeles’ Pacheco, 26-0 (19 KOs), the No. 2-ranked WBO and No. 3-ranked WBC super-middleweight contender, will meet the WBA No. 6-ranked Fulghum, 15-1-1 (13 KOs), in a DAZN-streamed main event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Jointly broadcast by TNT as its latest version of the monthly series, ”The Fight,” tickets go on sale Monday (pre-sale at 10 a.m.) and Tuesday (general public 10 a.m.) at AXS.com and events365.com.

With veteran four-division champion Canelo Alvarez seeking to regain his WBC belt October 31 versus new champion Christian Mbilli and Mexico’s Jaime Munguia capturing the WBC 168lbs belt in May, Pacheco, 25, has the space to assert himself as a bona fide title contender by defeating Houston’s Fulghum, 30.

In July, Pacheco stopped Immanuwel Aleem in the 11th round, giving him a slight edge to boast over WBC interim champion Lester Martinez, who went the distance with Aleem in March.

It was Pacheco’s first bout for new trainer and Hall of Fame fighter Buddy McGirt.

Elsewhere in the division, new IBF champion Osleys Iglesias is also defending his belt this month, as his promoter Camille Estephan calls Iglesias the sport’s most avoided fighter.

Hamzah Sheeraz is vacating his WBO belt rather than fighting former middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, opening a door for Pacheco to walk through.

“I’m excited to be fighting in Los Angeles again,” Pacheco said in a prepared statement. “Every time I’ve fought in Los Angeles, I’ve knocked out my opponent, so I’m looking forward to continuing that streak and putting on another great performance for my hometown fans.

Adeleye set for U.S. debut on Pacheco-Fulghum card, Nov. 14

After a 15-month layoff, British heavyweight hopeful David Adeleye will make his Matchroom promotional debut on November 14.

His trainer Adam Booth confirmed the former British champion will feature as part of the Diego Pacheco-Darius Fulghum show on U.S. shores next month, during a wide-ranging conversation with The Ring's Louis Hart.

The Ring's No. 6 super middleweight Pacheco (26-0, 19 KOs) will headline the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California against Fulghum (15-1-1, 13 KOs).

The card marks the latest instalment of TNT Sports and DAZN's "The Fight," the new monthly live boxing series, broadcast co-exclusively in the U.S. on TNT, truTV and DAZN worldwide.

Published on Sunday, Booth insisted his charge's return wouldn't be a straightforward tick-over fight either but stopped short of naming the heavyweight in question.

"It's not one of those to necessarily shake off the cobwebs, a local fighter with a decent record ... apparently a ticket seller so certainly not coming to lay down if he's selling loads of tickets in his hometown."

Adeleye (14-2, 13 KOs) was last in action against Filip Hrgovic on the Moses Itauma-Dillian Whyte undercard last August. Despite suffering a knockdown en route to a wide defeat on the scorecards, the 29-year-old produced a spirited effort over 10 rounds and gave the Croatian a scare in round eight of their 10-round contest in Saudi Arabia.

Two fights and 12 months later, Hrgovic (21-1, 16 KOs) was crowned IBF world champion with a come-from-behind upset stoppage win over Moses Itauma on August 29.

While it was clear in their fight Adeleye had some defensive defiencies to iron out, he's an athletic heavyweight and the new titleholder praised him as the hardest puncher he's faced. Hall of Fame promoter allegedly lamented the Londoner's inability to maintain his jab and under Booth, there's renewed optimism about his future.

After all, he's in a rebuilding phase with a highly-regarded trainer who maximized David Haye's strengths and masked his flaws during a successful world championship career across two weight divisions. He likened Adeleye to Haye before their first outing together, a blistering first-round knockout of Solomon Dacres in December 2024.

"David needs activity, promoting, progression," Booth continued. "I'm excited with his new relationship with Eddie, their personalities are well suited, let's see where we get with him because he absolutely has the potential to get top of the tree. We're now, on a daily basis, grinding away working on the things that need improving."

Matchroom announced the signing of Adeleye, who had begun his professional career with British rival promotional company Queensberry in 2019 and been fielding offers after becoming a free agent earlier this year.

When asked whether a future matchup with Andy Ruiz made sense, Booth suggested Damian Knyba (18-1, 11 KOs) would be a more interesting proposition after the Pole's upset win over the former world champion last month.

Anthony Olascuaga joins Matchroom, fights Olympian Yuberjen Martinez on Pacheco vs Fulghum

Anthony Olascuaga will reportedly meet an Olympic silver medalist in his Matchroom debut next month

Matchroom Boxing has announced the signing of long-reigning WBO flyweight champ Anthony Olascuaga, with multiple reports alleging that “Princesa’s” promotional debut will pit him against Olympic silver medalist Yuberjen Martinez on their November 14th Diego Pacheco vs Darius Fulghum show.

Olascuaga (12-1, 9 KO) first made his name by stepping up on short notice to shoot it out with Kenshiro Teraji in 2023, then following up with a comeback knockout of Giemel Magramo five months later. He’s been on a tear since, taking the WBO belt with a sensational knockout of Riku Kano and following up with wins over the likes of “Bomba” Gonzalez and Hiroto Kyoguchi among his five title defenses. He’s young, he’s capable, and he’s hugely entertaining; all he’s been missing so far is a platform, which this spot on TNT should provide in spades.

Colombia’s Martinez (7-0, 7 KO) was as legit an amateur as they come, reaching the 2016 finals before falling to the excellent Hasanboy Dusmatov and picking up two wins at Tokyo 2020 before a hometown robbery loss at the hands of Ryomei Tanaka in the quarterfinals. That said, the 34-year-old hasn’t put together the sort of professional résumé that merits a title shot; his first six wins came over no-hopers in his home country and his latest, which somehow featured a WBO trinket, saw him travel to Panama to beat unheralded can-crusher Angel Bethancourt.

Still, he’s got the pedigree, so maybe he’ll make it interesting.
