Re: Adam Smith
I can't recall a nonfighter criticising a boxer since Paul Dempsey upset Haye 10 years ago. Darke, Holdsworth and even Bernstein are a lost breed. Not just boxing either, I've noticed it in most sports.
You can be an ex-pro company hire or blow smoke up arses, but industry respect's thin on the ground for critical 'outside' journalism. Back in the 70s, 80s and 90s it was almost the norm for the most incisive voices to be non-pro. Limited market for it now, sadly.

Re: Adam Smith
I think some pigeons are coming home to roost. The foundation (really a Ltd company ) doesn’t seem to be keen to divulge where all the cash has gone. Someone set up the company and bought the domain the day after Ricky passed away.
At absolute best it sin poor taste. At worst it’s stealing money from the memory of RH and ripping people off under the guise of being a charity.
The fact Adam Smith has ignored this writers requests for clarification for weeks and weeks now would strongly suggest something stinks about the whole situation.
But I suspect many on here will have their wishes come true as Smith is increasingly looking guilty of something. His complete silence doesn’t bode well.

Re: Adam Smith
The only person who comes out of this Ricky Hatton situation with any credit is, in hindsight, the person who cared for him most but was treated like shit: Billy Graham.
The way he was and has been treated is an absolute disgrace.
PS: Adam Smith is a leach and a very strange man. Reminds me of Savile.

Re: Adam Smith
People seem to have this very weird relationship with Adam Smith as a person and his passion for the sport.
When he was Sky and he had Matchroom and massive control of UK boxing - he was hated, then kind of liked and a grudging respect for his apparent geniune boxing passion.
When he was Sky and Matchroom left - the situation wasn't great but Adam Smith's personal rating seemed to be at an all time high. People felt sorry that Matchroom took the money. Sky still covered Matchroom fights (through SSN) and Smith was still talking about them on social media.
When he left sky - there was a mix, first people thought (and some still do it would seem) it was a conduct issue and not a health issue - then there seemed to be a geniune sympathy and he was "brave" doing feelance stuff for Five Live / Talk sport etc.
Now he's back on Dazn and on Matchroom and known as the voice of boxing - back hated again.
Obviously there are those who know an awful lot more. Just he is the most divisive figure.

I don’t think it’s that complicated to be honest. He’s just a terrible commentator.stujones wrote: ↑06 Oct 2026, 12:42 People seem to have this very weird relationship with Adam Smith as a person and his passion for the sport.

Re: Adam Smith
I've never minded Smith but the lack of a send off from Sky and lack of transparency with the Hatton book are huge red flags. I have more of a problem with, commentary related, ex boxers towing the line. Froch, Allen and Paul Smith have all spoken of DAZN not working with them because they tell the truth.

I think he was fine in the early sky days. He wasn’t so melodramatic, didn’t growl, and didn’t seem to suffer from verbal diarrhoea. I watched an old fight he was commentating and he was completely acceptable. But at some point he seemed to switch to central character mode and became unbearablestujones wrote: ↑06 Oct 2026, 12:42 People seem to have this very weird relationship with Adam Smith as a person and his passion for the sport.

This is a place where we can all talk boxing sense or nonsense but there are some things that need calling out and that is one of them.nobleart1978 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2026, 10:46 Adam Smith is a leach and a very strange man. Reminds me of Savile.
To throw that around about a man is completely unacceptable.

Aaaargh , But he did'nt say he's like him , he only said he REMINDS him of Saville , also If he is rorting a dead mans memory he is a leach , and he does come across has a very strange man . , so all in all nothing wrong with that post.veriton wrote: ↑07 Oct 2026, 16:15This is a place where we can all talk boxing sense or nonsense but there are some things that need calling out and that is one of them.nobleart1978 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2026, 10:46 Adam Smith is a leach and a very strange man. Whats more if he insists on sprouting shite and dribble and ruining good fights with his constant shite , he's fair game , after all he's the one who wants to PUT HIMSELF in the public eye , he gets well paid , and the public are the payoing customer , so if they think he's a strange sort of Leach , so be it , maybee he should just fook off let a proper commentatir do the job , and stop claiming to be the best mate of a dead man whilst earning money of his name , thats not what mates and freinds do
Re: Adam Smith
Indefensible to insinuate such a thing. We all know the intent of the comment so it needs calling out.
Smith being a public figure doesnt make him 'fair game' for that at all, and neither is it a legal defence against libel.
I've no idea what you're talking about re 'dead men's books' but I'm guessing you've got a few Ali tomes on your shelves. Maybe I need to chuck my Benny Lynch book out?
I'm no fan of Smith as a commentator but playing the ball and not the man seems a good way to live.
