Boxers who had a preferred theme song

Post by gilgamesh »

Some fighters will come out to something different every time, but I've noticed some fighters will come to the ring time and time again with the same track. It comes to almost be identified with their entrance. I'd be curious to know some others this would apply to, but here are a few I've noticed. Some are obvious to everyone.

Gennady Golovkin - Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes
Wladimir Klitschko - Can't Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Larry Holmes - Ain't no Stopping Us Now by McFadden and Whitehead
Kostya Tszyu - One of These Days by Pink Floyd

This seems like a nice enough idea for a thread that shouldn't lead to any arguments or anything. Therefore it'll only last 1 page

I think Arturo Gatti came in to “Thunderstruck “ by AC/DC.
Bobby Czyz to “Fame”.

This reminds me of a time I was up hitting the bag just a few years ago at the Garfield park boxing gym on Chicago’s west side.
The guy who ran the gym was in charge of the music that day and being an old timer, he loved Frankie Valli and the four seasons.
He had “Can’t take my eyes off of you” blasting
Which is a romantic love song. A classic.
This was playing while two fighters Adrian Granados and Nate Galimore were in the ring beating the hell out of each other. It was very humorous

How could I forget the classic Gatti "Thunderstruck" entrance

The sweet old romantic song playing while dudes were throwing down in the ring is a funny thing to imagine. It's the little moments like that in life that get ya. And what's funny is only you were in on the joke, the boxers in the ring probably couldn't hear nor give a sh*t what song was playing. Maybe after the spar was over they heard it, but not when the fists were flying.

A lot of British fighters off the top of my head.

Dillian Whyte – Jaws Theme + AC/DC, Back in Black
George Groves – Prodigy, Spitfire
James Degale – Lil Wayne, Right Above It
Ricky Hatton – Blue Moon (not sure of the band)
Enzo Macranelli – Tom Petty, Won't Back Down
Chris Eubank – Tina Turner, Simply The Best
Carl Thompson – Snap, I've Got The Power
Kell Brook – Kayne West, All of The Lights

You’re right. It is funny the things we remember.

I remember Vitali Klitschko preferred coming out to an AC/DC song as well. "Hell's Bells"
