Re: Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Bahdi | DAZN - October 10, 2026
Mendoza ready to jump straight back into title picture vs. Sandoval
Sergio Mendoza lost his unbeaten record when he came up short against IBF junior flyweight titlist Thanongsak Simsri in two rounds earlier this year.
The 26-year-old southpaw felt the battle of making 108 pounds cost him.
"My assessment is that I pushed my body to the limit to make weight," said Mendoza (27-1, 23 KOs). "It was a very important lesson for me."
It looked like the Mexican had a long way to go to work himself back into the world title picture. However, one man's misfortune is another's gain. When Oscar Collazo injured a rib, a shot at WBA and WBC flyweight titlist Sandoval opened up.
Mendoza, who had his first fight since losing to Simsri scheduled for October 3, was only too happy to step into the breach and face the defending champion Saturday on DAZN at Wintrust Arena, Chicago.
"I know he's a tough opponent who throws a lot of punches. He's a world champion for a reason," he said. "He's a fast opponent who handles close-range fighting well. I'll fight my own fight by using my reach to my advantage, looking for counterpunches and hitting hard. I've trained not just physically but mentally as well. I'm going to put on a fight no one expects."
While the loss to Simsri was damaging, Mendoza is unfazed.
"A loss doesn't define me," he said. "What people are overlooking are my 27 previous fights and the way I won them."
He understands that receiving another title shot just six months after his defeat is being met with questions about whether he deserves it.
"There will certainly be people who think that, and it's my responsibility to show what I'm made of," he said. "I'm a fighter, I'm a disciplined person, and I know that respect from the public is earned in the ring."

Floyd Schofield III, Lucas Bahdi make the (weight) cut for title showdown
A first-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Floyd Schofield III was clinched by a second chance.
The unbeaten lightweight title contender from Austin, Texas, made weight on his second attempt Friday in Chicago, setting up Saturday night’s DAZN main event and WBA 135lbs title fight versus fellow unbeaten Lucas Bahdi of Canada.
The 24-year-old Schofield, 19-0 (13 KOs), weighed in at 135lbs while Bahdi, 20-0 [15 KOs), came in at 134lbs for the bout that will crown the replacement for the stripped, unbeaten Gervonta “Tank” Davis following his domestic-violence criminal charges in Florida earlier this year.
In the co-main event, unified flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval of Rialto, California, weighed in at 111.6lbs and challenger Sergio Mendoza of Mexico came in at 111.4lbs.
Sandoval, 27-2 (18 KOs), is making his first title defense as Mendoza, 27-1 (23 KOs), was summoned to replace injured minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo.
In other bouts:
8 rounds, lightweights: Jahmal Harvey 134.2lbs; Pedro Castaneda 135lbs
10 rounds, lightweights: Jan Paul Rivera 130.2lbs; Abraham Perfecto 131.4lbs
10 rounds, cruiserweights: Tristan Kalkreuth 199.2lbs; Ivan Rosado 194.6lbs
8 rounds, super-featherweights: Asa Stevens 127.8lbs; Cristian Williams 125.6lbs

Re: Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Bahdi | DAZN - October 10, 2026
Floyd didn't dominate, he's a c list boxer young and on the way up.
He's like a lower weight Anthony Yarde.

Re: Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Bahdi | DAZN - October 10, 2026
Well I thought Bahdi had two good knockdowns not called & the KD he did get wasn't a knockdown.
But Schofield probably won 8-4 ignoring the KDs so fair play.
I think there's half a dozen Lightweights who would beat Floyd though.
Mason, Zepeda, Herrera, Cortes, Valenzuela, Cruz & possibly even Noakes would beat him.
