I don't believe that Dubois' injury was overblown, I don't necessarily have reason to believe so, however, Dubois has taken a knee more times than I have seen anyone else do it so it's worth analysing when he does it.
Absolutely, and I’ll never try to say there aren’t significant flaws with Dubois. Illustrated not least by his tepid performances (when compared with AJ and Fury) vs Usyk. Along with shipping punches, he seemingly couldn’t deal with facing an opponent he couldn’t land shots on.

Wardley could definitely knock Dubois out too, particularly if Wardley has managed to persuade himself it doesn’t need to be an all out war from the first bell.

But looking back, I think Dubois showed a lot in both the losing effort vs Joyce and the shaky win vs Lerena. Certainly more than the stick he got afterwards would suggest.

Kilburn wrote: ↑14 Oct 2026, 11:51 There might have been some ACL talk at the time after the Lerena fight, but looking back it’s reasonably clear that Dubois got stunned with a left hook and in the process hurt his right ankle, the effects of which he struggled with for a while until he regrouped, before almost decapitating Lerena with that uppercut. It’s also clear IMO that Lerena was spared from a pretty heavy beating. At worst it was a shaky performance from Dubois that he came out the other end of inside 3 rounds.

People are of course free to speculate that a doctor was paid to make up lies about the severity of the Dubois eye damage versus Joyce, but given how well Dubois has performed in the trenches since, I’m inclined to write off this theory as.. well.. shite.
Yeah, but this is boxing and Frank is a proven liar. If you twist your ankle, you don't shake it off three minutes later. He got hurt by a punch and lost his faculties, it happens. No mystery injury.

Just watched the open workout. It’s never a great idea to read too much into these press events… but Wardley sounded good and was much faster than DDD on the pads. Dubois seems slower than usual.

I think this is an even kind of fight.

In the last fight Wardley kept on chucking that overhand right which dropped Daniel. It often sailed above Dubois’s head. I kept on thinking if he lowered the shot 8-10 inches lower those shots would’ve landed and also ‘right on the Chen’ as Jim Watt used to say.

I think the early rounds may be dangerous for Daniel

Hang on Keith so you don’t think Dubois had a problem with his foot / leg in that first round (caused by him being stunned by a solid left hook) and it was all because his brain got buzzed and he struggled to cope with that alone?

Dubois in the second Usyk fight was the same, maybe worse, while Wardley in the second Clarke fight was an absolute beast.
:maybe:
I think DDD will be taking this lightly and will be worse than the first fight. Wardley will make adjustments, but the effects of the beating he took in the first fight will also play a part.
Definitely could be a factor Keef.
Im hoping not. I'd like Fabio to be a pundit after he retires. He has some good intelligent takes on fights. But if he ends up punchy... :verysad:

Yes sir, foot/injuries don't fix themselves after a minute between rounds. DDD gets hit high on the head with a clean shot, the after effects mean he goes down twice more. He walks back to the corner at the end of the first with absolutely zero signs of a leg/ankle problem.

Ok, except for the part where Dubois says (I think) “What happened? My right leg feels useless”.

I’m not saying Dubois didn’t get hurt by a solid punch, of course he did, but in the fight I’m watching, his body language says he’s not right on that foot for the remainder of the fight. But managed to finish Lerena regardless.

His leg felt useless because he got hit high on the side of the head, which accelerated and rotated his brain. That temporarily disrupted the neural pathways and those bad boys control his balance, coordination and movement. That's your explanation sir.

People can explain it to you, but they can't understand it for you too.

Aside from the Doctors letter telling everyone how Dubois was intelligent enough to stay down in the Joyce fight because it saved his eyesight - it kinda overlooks the fact Dubois, who isn't the brightest light on the Xmas tree to be fair, had the medical knowledge to know that he had a cracked orbital bone and not just a blackeye in the midst of a fight.

Dubois is a confidence fighter. Twice he has quit already, and it's a guarantee he will quit at least once more in the future too.

LOL so actually there WERE signs of a foot / leg problem between rounds, that definitely had nothing to do with the 18st Dubois putting his right foot down awkwardly after getting rocked by a punch, and had everything to do with those neutral pathways that affect fighters right legs week in week out when they get rocked.

But is there anything on the undercard I should look out for?
It's looking pretty crappy to be fair. But maybe you guys can point out one or two fights that might be worth tuning into.

I know it’s just so ridiculous, all those people saying Dubois was on the canvas on one knee, letting the count run out, saying to himself “I do believe this Juggenaut fellow has fractured my orbital bone. I’d better quit now”.

Cloud cuckoo land these people. There’s no way Dubois could have deduced that something was badly wrong just by the way his eye socket felt.

It's a bit like Trevor Bryan after the Cassius Chaney fight when he was lucid and talking. He couldn't move either of his legs, it wasn't that there was anything wrong with them, just short term damage to the brain.

Dubois has been knocked down 10 times in 26 pro fights and has been counted out on his knee three times.

Wardley has never been knocked down.

Huge difference in durability but that's not always enough when there is also a big gap in boxing fundamentals.

Great Comment , that's the point , Dubios is a much superior boxer and has only lost to 2 guys who were Olympic Gold or silver medalists.

Be interesting to see how Wardleys confidence has been affected.

And whil he had a short unpaid career, he has now had a lot of hard fights, that must catch up at some point, Joe Joyce used to be rock solid

Seems bizarre the turn around in Dubois' standing really. Many boxing experts now have Dubios as the #1 Heavyweight in the world (counting Usyk as "retired") and also the #1 P4P UK fighter currently - I don't have him as either, but many do.

It was only a few short months ago - he was pretty much "written" off vs Wardley before fight 1 and considered bottle job and the like.

There was a thread about "hype jobs" not so long ago - surely Dubios is worth a mention - he seems to get one good win and all the other flaws / criticisms are forgotten and he's back as the best in the business. People were seriously giving him a very serious chance vs Usyk on the back of his AJ win and now off the back of his Wardley win - he's the UK #1 P4P fighter.

Dubois has a win over Hrgovic (champ), Wardley (former champ) and Joshua (former champ). I think there's a few guys out there that would beat him but not many have achieved that in the past few years. I think those that have him ranked number 1 is because not enough other guys have faced enough of each other more than him being the genuine best heavyweight out there.

O'Doherty ready to defend British title at dream venue O2 Arena

In August, Louie O’Doherty gave himself a night off and bought a ticket to watch Moses Itauma and Filip Hrogvic fight for the IBF heavyweight title at London’s O2 Arena.

Alongside his job as a Gymnastics instructor, O'Doherty had been in training for this Saturday's British lightweight title defense against Michael Gomez Jr. at the same venue.

It has long been O'Doherty's dream to fight at the famous southeast London arena and as WBO heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley climbed into the ring to publicize their eagerly anticipated rematch, the 26-year-old from Essex became another fan and took in the scene.

O’Doherty knew that his fight with Gomez Jr. was pencilled in for a spot on the undercard of the heavyweight showdown but he was about to receive a major surprise.

“We were told that it was going to happen in Manchester at Co-op Live. When they [Dubois and Wardley] both got in the ring and they said it was happening at O2, people started looking at me asking if I was on their show. I just said, 'Well, I must be fighting here then.' It was brilliant,” O’Doherty (12-0, 3 KOs) told The Ring.

“I’ve watched at O2 but I’ve only ever had bad seats. I’ve never had a good seat because it’s so expensive.

“When I see them [the boxers] walk in I get goosebumps. I won’t let it get to me now because I’m very calm but, afterwards, I’ll take it in a bit more and think about how amazing it really is.”

O’Doherty has collected a hoard of belts in his short professional career but he remains one of the most low-profile champions in British boxing.

Saturday’s show provides him with the perfect chance to impress those watching on DAZN PPV and the volatile Gomez (23-2, 8 KOs) couldn’t have emerged as an opponent at a better time.

The 31-year-old was stopped in a previous bid for Reece Bellotti’s British title at junior lightweight but he has found his form – and punching power – since stepping up to 135 pounds.

O’Doherty is an all-action fighter who threw 1200 punches during his May 16 title defense against the previously undefeated Ahmed Hatim.

Trying to grab a fraction of the spotlight from Dubois and Wardley won’t be easy but the fight has the potential to take O’Doherty’s profile to another level.

“I think he’ll be better than he was in the fights he lost. You might think 'That's a blueprint to winning,' but he’s gone back to the drawing board and he's improved on the things that maybe didn't go well in those fights,” he said.

“Maybe he's just found his weight. Maybe it suits him. Maybe he hasn't faced anyone who's strong at the weight either yet. I'm going to find out. He'll find out, and we'll both know where we stand after that. I’ll know whether I can maybe step up to European level or he'll know whether he should maybe go down the weights or not.

“You have to wait and see really. No one knows until you get in there.”

I think the fact that Fury has a win over someone in the top 20 this year and ran Usyk far far far closer than Dubois did means he has a legitmate case to being ranked higher and I still don't think someone with such a comprehensive loss on his resume (in the Usyk rematch) should be ranked ahead of Kaybell - unless of course he beats him if they fight.

Hrgovic - yes, for the moment I would have Dubois ahead of him.

Of course naturally if AJ beats Fury then Dubois is definitely ahead of them both.

I just find it hard to say a fighter with such a comprehensive loss literally in his penultimate fight should ranked #1 in his division or #1 P4P in his country. He was pulverised.

Boxing just doesnt work like that though does it - if it did, Dubois deserves to be ranked higher than Fury, because he destroyed Joshua, who had destroyed Ngannou who had knocked Fury down and lots felt beat Fury ..

The first felt quite one-sided - which is an odd ting to say since Dubois touched down twice.
