Yup. The procedure is directly examining brain tissue under a microscope.

All doctors can do for now is:

• Look at symptoms (memory loss, mood changes, impulsivity, etc.)
• Consider history of repeated head trauma
• Diagnose something called “suspected CTE” or traumatic encephalopathy syndrome (TES)

The brain is a wonderful and a wonderfully complex organ and it is flexible and it is constantly adapting even those not exposed to trauma.

I think the only people who can truly comment on Ricky's trauma will be friends / family who say him most days to see if there was anything he was struggling cognitively and behaviour. As I am sure people will know of examples - individuals can lose their speech via a stroke, trauma, illness - but can "gain" it back through the adapting brain.

What I am trying to say is while Ricky's brain in a scan or under autopsy might showcase damage - it might not necessarily been impacting on his day to day life - but then it can get complex when you combine things like social factors and behaviours and not something like as easier to measure like cognition - perhaps Ricky was showcasing symptoms of depression - was that down to changing in his brain, his social life or a combination of them both.

For example - it is extensively researched that people will Huntingdons are more likely to suffer from depression quite significantly compared to the general population and individuals with other brain trauma - is that because of the impact of Huntingdons on the brain? Is that because of the social impact of Huntingdons or is that because of the fact people living with Hintingdons know that sadly it is a bit of a death sentence with no cure - so slightly bloody depressing to think about!

Ricky Hatton's £40m fortune 'goes missing' as devastated family demand answers

Ricky Hatton’s family have issued a plea for action after the late boxer’s £40million estate is said to have ‘gone missing’ just over a year after his death. The much-loved sportsman took his own life in September 2025, but 13 months on, the Hatton family have been left ‘confused and angry’ with the process of gaining access to his estate. It’s claimed Hatton was worth around £40m, with the Mancunian believed to have never written a will, which has complicated proceedings following his death.

And now Eldest son Campbell has opened up about the situation, having been concerned by the lack of transparency. The 25-year-old told the Daily Mail: “The lack of answers is concerning. I’ve asked the questions and I can’t see why I’m not getting the information.”

Meanwhile, dad Ray said: “Campbell isn’t grabbing at money, he’s not saying, ‘Give me and my sisters £5m each’. He just wants to know what is going on and these people are telling him nothing. Why?”

The location of Hatton’s assets is said to be complicated. It’s said that the majority of Ricky’s estate, from his bank accounts, investments and companies, is contained within the Dorothy Hatton Discretionary Trust.

That trust is controlled by Hatton’s former secretary, Catherine Lomas, and his former legal adviser, Paul Dodds. But Campbell told the outlet that they have now blocked his phone calls, and have since referred his correspondence to a Newcastle-based law firm, Muckle.

Campbell now has a solicitor of his own working on the situation, but he’s yet to receive the answers he remains desperate for.

As for Lomas, she told the Daily Mail in an email: “We are the trustees of the Dorothy Hatton Discretionary Trust. It would not be appropriate for us to discuss the administration of that trust with you as it is a private matter. However, we take our responsibilities very seriously and have been and remain professionally advised. We do not accept the criticism levelled by your questions.”

The Hatton family aren’t suggesting wrongdoing on Lomas and Dodds’ part.

Ray added: “Everything we’re telling you here is not for us – I promise you. We want nothing from Richard’s estate. Carol [Ricky’s mother] would maybe like his MBE and that’s it. The money, whatever else, it’s all for his kids, not us.

“But I will tell you something, I do want to know how much was left because when I came off his trust, in 2011, he was well set financially and we’ve heard a lot of things since then.”

CTE must be s nightmare to diagnose.

I remember my Parkinson's diagnosis took something like 8/10 months ...

During the period of diagnosis a certain Mr Haye was a complete w@nker.

And Campbell was running about building up a tick that Ricky had to pay. The only person from his family worth listening to is the mother of his two youngest.

Jane Couch is the most honest on all of this.

I don't ever understand why Boxers do this sh*t. Make investments or go to Financial advisors or any of that Ponzi scheme bullsh*t.

At this point isn't pretty much anybody trying to give you Financial advice somebody you shouldn't trust?

I’d use someone like Steve Goodwin he did ages in the sport, runs a hugely successful financial services company and not one person has a bad word to say about him. I’d advise all boxers to use him as you get the best of both worlds

It’s the oldest story in the world though isn’t it?
These advisers and new ‘friends’ are very charming and talk a great game.
Most boxers and footballers don’t come from those circles where they mix with reputable financial advisors so they get caught out over and over again.

Yes I agree. I also want to know more about what’s happened to Joe Joyce’s money. Hatton and Joe have one thing in common - both are very likeable, friendly and decent people. So probably trust their circle too much. This makes them easy targets for rip off merchants and leeches. Ray Hatton is the worst as he was ripping off his own son.
