Teremoana Teremoana vs Hemi Ahio headlines November 18th Matchroom show in Melbourne

Teremoana Teremoana will squeeze in a fourth fight and second main event of 2026 against Hemi Ahio

Paris Olympian turned slow-walked heavyweight prospect Teremoana Teremoana is set for his second straight Matchroom main event, this time battling Tonga’s Hemi Ahio on November 18th at Pullman Melbourne Albert Park.

Despite falling in the 2024 quarterfinals to eventual gold medalist Bakhodir Jalolov, Teremoana (12-0, 12 KO), who’d previously dipped his toes in the pro scene, looked to be the most promising big man to emerge from the games. He’s been plenty busy, but that’s about all you can say about his tenure in the paid ranks; nobody’s taken him past the second round because Matchroom’s made no effort to pit him against someone who can take him past the second round. His record is littered with professional victims like Curtis Harper, Bowie Tupou, and most recently DeAndre Savage, who boasted one win over an opponent with a >.500 record and lasted all of 86 seconds into the second round.

“I’m excited to be fighting again down in Melbourne and this time headlining against a strong opponent from New Zealand in Hemi Ahio,” said Teremoana.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge he will bring. Nothing changes for me. I am here to prove I am the best and Ahio is the next obstacle in my way. I respect what he’s achieved but he shouldn’t have taken this fight.

“I’ve been training hard and with another five weeks of preparation until fight night I plan to show the difference in levels. God willing, I will be victorious.”

Ahio (25-1, 19 KO) followed a similar blueprint as Teremoana minus the pedigree, feasting on the dregs of Australia’s and New Zealand’s heavyweight scenes for nearly a decade. He even fought the incredibly large but very bad Julius Long twice, only to bite off more than he could chew against Lucas Browne victim Faiga Opelu and suffer a stoppage loss in 2022. His six fights since have been garbage, including a TKO of 0-3 Richie Feulufai, a TKO of an even more cooked Browne, a split decision over Opelu in their rematch, and a knockout of 3-5 Joe Ageli in his last fight.

13 years in the ring and nothing to show for it. Still, he clears the unbelievably low bar Teremoana has set. Maybe he’ll be good enough for Teremoana to actually learn something.

“I’m in great shape, maybe in the best shape I have been my entire career,” said Ahio, who has lost just once in 26 contests with 25 wins on his resumé, including 19 stoppages.

“There’s going to be fireworks, and we will both be dropping big bombs. I’m ready to throw down with the big man. Let’s go!”

The best fight on the card is actually the co-feature, which sees undefeated middleweight Mitch Leek (14-0, 8 KO) fight never-before-stopped veteran Joel Camilleri (31-8-1, 15 KO). Not much else of interest to those who aren’t Oceania diehards, but they did screw up the formatting on their press release and accidentally cut out the last bit, which I thought was funny.

Teremoana returns Nov. 18 in Australia; is Prospect of the Year within reach?

Teremoana Teremoana will face Hemi Ahio on November 18 to headline a Matchroom Boxing show at Pullman Melbourne Albert Park on Fox Sports and DAZN’s Kayo Sports in Australia, it was announced on Wednesday.

Teremoana (12-0, 12 KOs) will be fighting for the fourth time in 2026 when he faces Ahio (25-1, 19 KOs), a 36-year-old native of Auckland, New Zealand.

"I'm excited to be fighting again down in Melbourne and this time headlining against a strong opponent," Teremoana said in a statement. “I am really looking forward to the challenge he will bring. Nothing changes for me. I am here to prove I am the best, and Ahio is the next obstacle in my way. I respect what he's achieved, but he shouldn't have taken this fight.

"I've been training hard, and with another five weeks of preparation until fight night. I plan to show the difference in levels. God willing, I will be victorious."

After making his pro debut in 2020, Teremoana represented Australia in the 2024 Olympics and has two first-round knockout wins this year against Curtis Harper and Bowie Tupou, and stopped DeAndre Savage in just two rounds last time out while headlining a homecoming in Queensland.

“Australian boxing is flying and I am excited to be returning to Melbourne for what promises to be a brilliant fight card, headlined by the country’s most destructive fighter,” Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn said in a statement.

“We seriously have a superstar on our hands in Teremoana. He must close out this year with another big statement – but he’ll need to be at his best as Hemi Ahio is a very dangerous operator with plenty of experience.

“Teremoana truly has the potential to go very far in the heavyweight division. I honestly believe he has the tools to become a future world champion. He is a man Australia needs to get behind."

With another statement performance, Teremoana, 28, can make a strong case for securing the coveted Prospect of the Year.

Teremoana, alongside Jhon Orobio (19-0, 17 KOs), Colombia's 23-year-old sensational junior welterweight knockout artist who returns for a fourth fight this year on November 12 against unbeaten Hendri Cedeno, appear to be top frontrunners for the award.

Prospect of the year? Really? Really?

I like Teremoana and the excitement he generates, along with his potential, but he hasn't fought anyone of any note. It's been a steady diet of fighters who pose absolutely no threat, outside of injuring him when they're going down.

Has he had any 50/50 fights? Laughable. 60/40 fights? Not even close. 75/25 fights? Nope. 95/5 fights? That might even be too generous to his list of opponents, as much as I dislike disparaging any fighter who has the fortitude to get in the ring.

However, taking on the type of fighters he is, we have no idea how good Teremoana actually is or can be. And that's not going to change until the quality of his opponents improves.

Hemi is a good opponent, if he deals with hemi no issues that will be a nice showing.

Hemi is certainly a step up. This is a good progression fight for Teramoana.

Is this the top prospect from Australia against the top prospect from New Zealand?

Looking forward to it.

If you count 36 year olds 13 years into their career as prospects, maybe.

Teremoana need to step it up. Ahio is not a step up. More of the same old same old.
I'm not talking putting him in with Dubois or Usyk. But how about a Vianelo or Riakpore?

I think I've watched him once. His record is flattered by his region, I think he's fine as an opponent for Teremoana but he shouldn't be too much trouble for him given his amateur pedigree.

Cool. There isn't much in the way of footage of him, but he looks solid. The Julius Long highlights were entertaining.

Fa is also hyping up the fight but might be a bit biased toward a mate. Sounds like Ahio will be a good step up

Big Teremoana should win. This fight will not answer questions about his skill level and stamina. Both of which are mediocre. No questions about his power. That is very good.

Pretty funny. I have no idea how you deduced he has no stamina when no opponents have got to the third round. I think his skills are fine for this stage of his development.
