Mbilli tried to win, unlike Charlo or Scull and he's a good fighter but Canelo is on another level. And I don't think it was an awful fight at all.

I half watched it on my phone before. I like Martin’s low lead and explosiveness. Looked like David was a bit more solid and textbooky. Both fighters faces looked unsure as the scores were read out. Decided I’m a fan of both now.

So popular that even Canelo shared it.

Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli | PPV - 31 October 2026
Sergio Mora is a terrible commentator who doesn’t know how to score fights. He seriously believes work rate, even if the shots thrown hit thin air or land on the guard, outscores the quality and quantity of punches that actually connect to the head or body. He actually said this, claiming the optics of being "busy" is more impressive than being "efficient".
Meanwhile, Chris Mannix, who wrongly predicted a decision victory for Christian M’billi, then undermined the obviously wide scorecards, claiming Canelo’s win was unimpressive because the Frenchman underperformed.
The DAZN commentators discussed one of Canelo’s bouts against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, even though they never fought.
The commentators even laboured over the fact that no one was discussing the threat posed to Canelo by Janibek Alimkhanuly, whilst refraining to mention the inconvenient fact the Kazakh boxer has never competed at 168lbs and had received a ban for being a drug cheat.
Even if you’re the biggest “hater” of Canelo’s, you have to admit that DAZN’s team was appallingly bad tonight. I’ve never seen such incompetence or wholly inappropriate bias.
I wonder if DAZN was desperately hoping for a “passing of the torch” event tonight, whereby Canelo loses, allowing them to market Christian M’billi or Hamzah Sheeraz as the next “big thing”?

Stinker. Mbilli was so disappointing
I'm bored of Canelo fights. More like a spar these days. Great boxer, just not exciting to watch

If Callum Simpson could get a name win under his belt he'd be a fun opponent for Canelo at the Azetca when Canelo does fight there.
Reminiscent of Chavez v Holligan.
Simpson would take half of Yorkshire.
There'd be Chihuahuas wearing flat caps & Whippets wearing sumbreros everywhere you look.
And tacos made from Yorkshire Pudding.
It's a dream.

Boxing masterclass by well past prime Canelo against undefeated, prime, strong, well conditioned powerful world champion Mbili, who is clearly second most dangerous guy behind Iglesias. I dont know what fight were you watching, but that was far from boring. 118-110 Canelo. He was in his comfort zone all night long. Mbilli was doing his thing for first few rounds, but after he took come clean bombs, especially to the body, he realize it would not work and tried to fight smarter. He tried, but Canelo had all the answers. He hurt Mbilli at the end of fight to punctuate the win. But Canelo was so comfortable, even at the ropes while Mbilli throwing all kind of stuff. Nobody fighting like that, i really like it. Haters will always hate, but Canelo, well past prime still fighting elites, colecting those "0"s and building that Hagler like resume.
He is already one of ATGs, enjoy him while he is still here

Typically Canelo
Dull fight where he outclasses a C or B-Level hypejob with a padded recorded. But loses or needs a Canelo robbery to beat someone actually world level.

I may have watched it on some Mexican guy's tv on Tiktok but I respected the performance too. this is how i saw it honestly. not being able to put a dent in that granite chin must be so dispiritingCent0089 wrote: ↑01 Nov 2026, 04:08 Boxing masterclass by well past prime Canelo against undefeated, prime, strong, well conditioned powerful world champion Mbili, who is clearly second most dangerous guy behind Iglesias. Don't think many people are disputing Canelo's greatness or his ability. It's the method of victory and the fights he has been in for the past half decade that many don't find exciting.Cent0089 wrote: ↑01 Nov 2026, 04:08 Boxing masterclass by well past prime Canelo against undefeated, prime, strong, well conditioned powerful world champion Mbili, who is clearly second most dangerous guy behind Iglesias. One of the greats no doubt, but Hagler still smashes him to bits
Canelo stepped up 3 times to Elite level and was schooled 3 times by Crawford, Bivol and Mayweather.
(Maybe Golivkin could be put in this category?)
Nobody schooled Hagler
Canelo clearly ducked Dave Benevidez. Hagler ducked nobody
Canelo is an an awesome fighter with an amazing body of work,. Hagler is on a level above though
Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli | PPV - 31 October 2026
GGG should also smash Canelo to bits according to users here on forum. Hagler ducked nobody? Why he never moved up in weight? He retired right after Leonard loss. Alvarez moved from 147 to 175 and challenged champs there. Canelo is at least 3 years past prime and still challenging prime, elite fighters.forcefraser wrote: ↑01 Nov 2026, 07:02Don't think many people are disputing Canelo's greatness or his ability. Dont get me wrong, Hagler is my favorite past fighter and i rank him higher than Canelo. But hate and disrespect to alvarez achievements is just staggering here on boxrec.
Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli | PPV - 31 October 2026
Hagler was undoubtedly an all-time great, but the claim that he never put business ahead of boxing doesn't stand up to scrutiny.forcefraser wrote: ↑01 Nov 2026, 07:02Don't think many people are disputing Canelo's greatness or his ability. In 1987, the WBA stripped Hagler of his middleweight title for failing to defend against mandatory challenger Herol Graham.
Instead, Hagler accepted a guaranteed $12 million to face Sugar Ray Leonard, who hadn't fought at middleweight and had competed just once in the previous five years.
Leonard was considered such an unlikely winner that Hagler entered as a 3–1 betting favourite. Only the WBC sanctioned the fight.
The IBF even refused to sanction Hagler’s bout against Sugar Ray Leonard, because he was unranked and had zero credentials in the weight class.
At that moment in time, Tommy Hearns was the WBC and IBF’s leading contender.
Coincidentally, Emanuel Steward openly admitted to refusing a fight between Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns and Herol ‘Bomber’ Graham, outright stating it would have been a terrible business decision.
Anyway, Leonard's upset victory over Hagler is legendary, but hindsight shouldn't change how that matchmaking decision was viewed at the time.
Hagler made a perfectly understandable commercial decision. My point isn't that he ducked Graham or Hearns, but that applying different moral standards to Hagler and Canelo is plainly wrong.
Golovkin also made commercial decisions throughout his career.
He was stripped of his IBF title in 2018 after failing to agree to a mandatory defence against Derevyanchenko while pursuing the lucrative Canelo rematch.
In 2023, he voluntarily surrendered his IBF title rather than face Esquiva Falcão. He also relinquished his WBA belt instead of defending against Erislandy Lara.
Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli | PPV - 31 October 2026
Reading these comments, it sounds like I didnt miss much. Faded champ outpoints uninspiring contender.
The fact it was on PPV in the UK is laughable. Dazn are undermining their own model with this idiocy.
Now to look forward to Buatsi v Hutchinson 2, a fight I can actually watch as part of my subscription.

The 2nd fight could have been a draw and the third was a clear Canelo win
Scorecards are terrible at times. 115-113 on all three cards for Bivol over Canelo being a clear example
Even last night, some judge gave 115-112 Canelo with a point deduction from Mbilli. It was way wider than that

Canelo would need a very exciting opponent to make me watch him ever again. His fights are mostly like dull sparring sessions. Will not be counting the days until his obligatory May contest.
