Al Tremari Inducted Into The Illinois Boxing Hall Of Fame

Post by Seamus »

Completely shocked by this because I've known him almost 30 years and had no idea he was a judge in several title fights https://boxrec.com/es/judge/402278?sort ... U&offset=0

I knew Sean well. He refereed a bunch of my fights.
I was nominated into the martial arts wing of that hall of fame in 2023.
They do a nice ceremony

Curtin ran the CYO program in the late 70s early 80s along with a fella named Harry Wilson.
Tommy O’Shea also coached there. And, of course prior to those guys Tony Zale would coach there.
Sean also reffed and later was the director of the Illinois boxing commission.
He was a good man. Cared about the fighters.
He was a fixture in Chicago boxing for as long as I can remember.
He even waved off one of my fights in the golden gloves. 1980. I had the guy down in the first. He knocked me down in the second. I got up and stumbled. Sean stopped it. Man I was mad. But, he probably did me a favor.
I really liked that fella.

Davis square had a solid program back in the 70s.
I don’t think they are still going.
Almost all the park districts had a boxing program.
I don’t care what anyone says. Kids back then were a lot tougher than nowadays
