Elected Muslims are coming for British pubs

Post by Ricky »

And ofcourse, Muslims don't drink.

Are you looking forward to boozeless but inclusive British pubs?

No pork on the menu but at least you can order food until Ramadan starts.

We're going to see alot more of the Red-Green Alliance in the USA, UK, France, Belgium, Germany, etc. It's only temporary though.

In Australia the pubs are divided into areas where no minors can go (drinking areas), and areas where the minors can sit with their guardians (family areas). Pretty much exactly what this guy was asking for. No big deal.

Then I don't know what he's asking for. He didn't mention any of the points you listed, so I guess we're both in the dark.

Hmmm. I don't know what was said but the editing of that clip makes me a bit suspicious.

The actual words are 'need those shared spaces too'. At face value, that isn't suggesting changing pubs. It's suggesting creating other communal spaces. Then the clip cuts off abruptly.

If he is saying stop serving alcohol in pubs, I don't agree with that. But it has the feel out-of-context rage bait

It's not the clipping, the guy can barely speak English, so... who do you think elected him? I'll give you a clue, they weren't your typical 'Groundskeeper Wullie' Scots.

The islamification of our democratic systems is here in a very real way.

This is what he actually said. It's actually about alcoholism and the thereby related deaths, but you know, don't let that get in the way of a bit of fun xenophobia.
Irshad Ahmed

I welcome the debate. As we approach the winter, a time of year when the harms from drugs and alcohol hit hardest, publication of the number of deaths from alcohol and drugs is a grim reminder of how they damage lives all year round.

It was welcome to hear the news on Tuesday that alcohol deaths have fallen, but alcohol and drug poisoning is still directly responsible for more than one in 30 deaths in Scotland. Lots of others suffer from worse health or have painful stories of addiction, which can complicate relationships with families and work. It is hard to know what we politicians can do about all this, especially as someone who does not drink. However, it is impossible to shrug off the data.

I want to dispel a common myth. The number of alcohol deaths in Scotland has not always been high. In fact, it has gone from being one of the lowest in Europe in the 1980s to becoming the highest at the turn of the millennium. In Glasgow in the 1990s, there was a spike when alcohol-related deaths trebled before being brought back down. That trend has parallels with the drug deaths crisis and is something that we can surely learn from. That rise was in part because of more alcohol licences and the sale of cheap alcohol, and the trend fell as drinks slowly became less affordable. Sadly, the cost of alcohol can cripple household finances.

Controls on pricing may be a blunt tool, but they have been effective in reducing harm. The evidence points towards changing habits among the heaviest consumers and a fall in alcohol deaths. I commend those efforts, but we still have work to do on alcohol marketing and the level of consumption.

At a time when it is much easier to stay home or spend time alone on our phone, I do not want to underestimate the social value of a trip to the pub. Pubs are amazing spaces and, let us face it, the trend towards the sale of alcohol to consume at home has not helped us. It is linked with rising harms, but pubs are not spaces designed for families, young teenagers or religious minorities such as mine, and we need those shared spaces, too.

Scotland’s health inequalities are shameful. They are worse in places where the high streets are empty areas and where people are denied access to services and jobs. Our most deprived areas have 15 times more drug deaths and five times more alcohol-related deaths. Alcohol and drug deaths affect young men in working-class areas most. A man’s postcode in Scotland can predict their life expectancy—a man’s postcode can carry four times the risk of dying early.

However, we do not have a public health plan that deals with all the social issues that we face. In 2011, the Christie commission made us aware of ideas of prevention. Fifteen years later, are we further forward? That is 15 years of missed opportunities. It is 15 years when we have jumped from one emergency to the next—from alcohol harm to drug deaths to homelessness to violence against women and girls.

It is good to see the Scottish Government getting behind prevention, but it must be co-ordinated action that is backed by investment locally. I am worried that joblessness and mental health problems in young people could be the cause of substance misuse in the future, and I am worried that cuts to the charity sector will isolate people and force them to manage their problems alone. I will work with the Government on their prevention agenda and on making public health a priority.

Well the clip is the video of this bit:

"but pubs are not spaces designed for families, young teenagers or religious minorities such as mine, and we need those shared spaces, too."

Why would a Muslim MSP stand up in parliament and say that about British pubs (which like I said, allow children in).

That part of the speech was in the clip because the clip makers want to provoke controversy. Because controversy generates clicks and revenue. The rest of the speech is dead boring from that perspective. In the context of his speech he's saying "being alone results in alcoholism, so being with people is a good thing, but in his perspective, pubs are not a good environment for some segments of the society".

But you keep on focussing on one sentence from an obviously well thought out speech full of good intentions and empathy Ricky, I'm sure it's all part of a massive conspiracy.

It provokes controversy because he said it, it's not like it's some deepfake conan. This guy was elected by pockets of society that would ONLY for a muslim, one working for only thier best interests - and this is trending in only 1 way. Another reason why we quickly need mass deportations in the west, or western life as we know it will be confined to history.

You certainly have a gift Ricky. The ability to write sentences above, using terms like "mass deportations" - really conjuring up the worst that societies have done to another, whether it was the Irish, blacks, Armeniens, Jews, Muslims, Hugenots or whatever, and yet still claiming some "moral superiority" over the people that you intend to victimize, is truly special. I'd be choking on my own vomit writing that, but you, well, seem to be able to do it. Respect.

I think when immigrants that come here illegally by boat and rape children:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgkjg76lvxo

or, stab women in the head 13 times with a screwdriver:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yvwdgjpj3o

then defending our countries border, and thus it's citizens, from foreign undocumented criminals, then what other moral position is there?

Millions need to be deported to keep our way of life intact, sorry that makes you feel sick, maybe you're more suited to living in a broken down lawless third world society than I, in the name of diversity, of course.

Someone needs to, if the tech elite are allowed their own way, they will concentrate more and more capital, power and influence to the extent they will have free reign pretty much over the future of societies around the globe.

I guess though, one thing was demonstrated in this election, Musk's money had little or no effect on the outcome - in fact, he may have energised democratic support in Texas especially.

I know lots of Muslims that drink alcohol, in moderation.

Indonesians, Iraqis, Kyrgystanis, Russians, Pakistanis.

Yeah, true, I know plenty who drink, plenty who like to fool around, but they universally do not eat pork. It's like the only true compromise they're truly prepared to make. Just this little bit inside saying "I'm an OK muslim, because I don't eat bacon". Just the same as these hate-mongering, bigotted, adulterous, porn-comsuming violent Christians who say "I'm a Christian, I'm against abortion". It's like their little protective shell stopping their identity collapsing. And the thing is, it's even less of an effort than avoiding bacon.

I used to be mates with a Muslim guy in uni, he claimed to not drink alcohol for religious reasons, unless it was Smirnoff Ice which was apparently delicious to enough to go to hell for

Bacon is the best. if you are going to give something up that's not the thing to give up.
Yes quite a few muslims I know or have known drank, but none of them would ever eat pork, it seems to be the red line.
