JC-Bika - post fight discussion

Post by jomothepure »

As you thought really. Bika one tough SOB. Joe really being too cocky early on, put in his place later on. If he fights Kessler next after tonight;s repective results and performances, my Mum's younger than me

BIKA ROBBED. Calazage missed everything all night and Bika landed the cleaner better punches and hurt Calazage a bit. I had it wide to Bika. Anyone else think Bika was like BHOPs?

Calzaghe was knackered from the about the 7th onwards. Twas probably one of the dirtiest fights in a while and one of the worst ref jobs I've seen in ages.

Was it just me or did Michael Buffer look and sound totally out of it?

Your right I should have scored all those missed punches of Calazage and ignored the fact that Bika throws punches like a man and not girly shots my girflriend would be ashamed of

Reminded me alot of Reid vs Calzaghe actually...... the early start, the showboating - the openess to the right hand.... Bika seeming to find a way, but not quite doing enough to get it.

I had the fight ALOT closer than the judges, infact - I had it 6 rounds a piece, with the deserving point deduction the deciding factor.

I gave Bika 9, 10, 11 - close but Calzaghe did nothing, 12.

I also gave him 2 mid rounds (think it was the 6th and 7th).

If I was the WBC/WBA champion, I would get hold of the 9th and 6th round - that the way to beat Joe.

Give me a pint of what youve been drinking.

Bika could and maybe should have been thrown out on more than one occasion.

Whether a fighter should have been DQed or not is irrelevant to the scoring (and the use of the head wasn't that bad - Calazage initiated some of the headbutts).

Watch the fight instead of listening to the biased commentary and watcg whether the punches connect and if they are effective instead of listening to commentary.

Mickey Vann is a terrible referee, he loses control too often and too easily.

Calzaghe was much too fired up and fought very recklessly; I had it quite close.
Bika was shockingly dirty but he kept doing it because he kept getting away with it.

115/113 JC

Edit: I forgot to take the point off 115/112 JC

calzaghe won by about 2 or 3 rounds for me.
bika came on strong and won the later stages but his use of the head was about as bad as i`ve seen since the days of john conteh.
bika is very raw but very strong and calzaghe tried to out muscle the strongman to try and prove something to hbo and the american audience.
he should have got behind his jab and opened up in the later rounds, someone with 3 aba titles and over pro 40 fights shouldnt have to be told this.

Decent score card, although minus the point deduction I had it a draw - I do think it would have been a bit tough for Joe to have suffered a loss.

Should Bika have been thown out, yes if Calzaghe wasn't matching fire with fire in the dirty department.

Bika was nasty with the head, had a few low blows and nearly took Calzaghe's head off when he was on the canvas. However, I thought a fair few of the head clashes were geniunally accidental.

Calzaghe was nasty also..... I thought Joe should have been docked a point, Bika 2.

Come on, the score wasn't that close.

I gave Bika 2 or 3 rounds at most, it was because he was dirty and strong that made it competitive.

Like I said I wasn't going to judge Bika as shite until I saw the fight and Viciousmaussa was right.

Yeah I noticed that. For a second I thought Michael Buffer forgot Calzaghe's name

Buffer didn't look interested and even his trademark 'lets get ready to rumble' statement sounded weak on the night.

Calzaghe won the fight handily enough IMO (3/4 rounds with the deduction) in a nightmare rough untidy affair. I dont know what JC was thinking about in those early rounds (even though they ironically built him a lead), but he looked like he was trying to bang the guy out to impress HBO.

Where was the jab, lateral movement and combination couterpunching tonight? He should stay with what he is good at and stop trying to impress for the sake of it. Biko will be difficult for any fighter out there, but there will be pedigree fighters that will beat his crude style in a canter if they stick to an intelligent gameplan.

Calzaghe should be past the stage where he lets the occasion and the style of opponent dictate what he does, only then can he transcend his champion status.

I think Calzaghe v Kessler next year will be the only credible fight out there for both. Only after that can either think about multi million dollar purses.

Seems like JC had no sparring, maybe that's why helooked a bit off

I wouldn't say out of it. He was just there do do his ruuuuuuumble and collect his paycheque and flee manchester asap. SN probably happy to pay him funny money given the HBO audience

Did anyone else think it was really funny when Calzaghe was waiting to punch the air while being introduced?

I thought Calzaghe was a comfortable winner - It wasn't tidy and Bika was strong as an ox, but I fail to see how anyone can score that contest to Bika - I'm not going to even debate it

I can see how the mauling, grapling and roughness made it look closer than it realy was though, and agree that calzaghe was being Mr macho trying to out muscle Bika.

All in all a scrappy yet absorbing fight - It's the first time I have seen Calzaghe looking visibly tired and fatigued, but I believe that points to the grappling contest that was going on more than the beginning of a more permanent slide.

I never have been a fan of bringing these relatively unknown fighters over here for title fights. There is so little to gain, yet so much to lose. It's a risky affair.

Let's see if Warren can deliver on his promise of a big fight next year - These fights are no good for Calzaghe now.

Just wathced it again. rescored it 6 rounds apiece. Bika well underrated. If I watch it once more, I'm afriad it'll be a Bika 'win'

You're right, he landed most of the real shots. When you look at Joe's shoeshining he doesn't land much.

Only just realized Bika has like 3 TD fights on his record. What were SN thinking?

Lucky escape for JC, who apparently had poor training/little sparring
At last someone sees my point, I had it 8-4 or 7-5 Bika, but I must admit I was on the phone until the beggining of round 9, so my concentration wasn't 100%

Calzaghe could have won that fight at a canter & didn't need to make it so difficult for himself.

Bika is tough, but that's all he is.

His skills are limited & he is very crude & dirty.

Any well schooled fighter (like JC) could easily outbox him. :box:
