a bit washed up & DEFINITELY overrated (like countryman ottke) but NONETHELESS...a big victory for kessler that leaves SM supremacy in doubt!!

I have to admit it's easy to say, but does anyone else just get the feeling that Beyer was thinking "shit, this is my final pay cheque. Why work 36 minutes for it when >6 will suffice?"

Beyer did not look like a guy who gave it his all to me. Still, good win for Kessler. The Dane's proven his salt. JC can't avoid this man anymore.

Kessler's got a quality reign. He hasn't scraped the bottom of the barrel, given that he beat Siaca, Mundine, Lucas & Beyer. 4 former/current titlists in a row. That is good form & he deserves some p4p recognition.

Kessler won all three rounds with a great jab and the straight right hand, the only type of punches he threw all night. Good finish, but Beyer looked like he could have got up.
He just looked at his corner and decided enough was enough, where's my paycheck?

Not a great effort on the German's part.

did the bell go when Beyer was on the floor?? It must have done, bearing that in mine i have to agree with you guys who suggest Beyer knew he was on a hiding to nothing and thought I'll sit this one out

No don't think the bell had gone, they announced it as 2.58.

Surprising to see the German sit it out, seeing as he looked more hurt with the Green knockdowns, and he got up from those.

He hadn't even tested Kessler's chin with his left hook either.

any idea how much these two got? I initially heard it was 1.5m euros each but then met some Danish guy who said it was much less....

Speaking of timing of KO's..... I've got hold of Jaffa Ballagou vs Lawrence Chapman from June of this year (they are actually scheduled to return later on).

I think the figure quoted for Beyer is correct. He has admitted it is his biggest pay-day ever.

For Kessler it is much less though. Perhaps as little as 10% of what Beyer gets.
Add to that Kessler's promoter - Team-Palle - who set up the event might actually come out with a loss on the whole thing (a loss the can't really afford - in trouble as it is).

It tell's you something about how difficult it is to make fights happen for a guy like Kessler who is dangerous, but not a big seller.

Just watched Beyer and Kessler on youtube.

Beyer wasn't doing too bad although he was losing. When he went to Kessler's body he barely missed a body shot, which says Kessler's open to the body.

Beyer stuck to Kessler's pace though and has Kessler even ever fought anyone with a pace Calzaghe can put out? Mundine's fast hands gave Mikkel a little trouble and Calzaghe's known for his fast hands.

Was funny though when they announced his name as simply the best Kessler like Eubank used to be called.

Average straights and Beyer didn't look that hurt when down.

Like Loynsey mentioned in another post, the Danish press were quoting 2m danish, which is approx £250k for Kessler... I think that must be too low.....

not neccessarily, Kessler isn't as huge a star as some people make out and Denmark is hardly a hotbed of boxing. I reckon Palle took a calculated risk in Kessler taking the thin end of the cut and Beyer being paid off to come and sacrifice himself, a little like Tszyu was, thought Tszyu probably thought he had a good chance of winning it. They will really want to get Calzaghe now, as it's the biggest fight out there for Mikkel, and that I think is what they are banking on

Super punch from Kessler. Beyer went down like sack of potatoes and I'd be surpised if his head had cleared by the count of ten.

Calzaghe-Kessler really should happen. Kessler has achieved so much in a short space of time as a world champion. Has avoided waste of time matches and he's a threat. This a very fit and strong guy with technique and know how.

These two are clearly the standouts in the division and MUST settle it where it matters...in the ring.
