Who is yur boxer? Do you know who else is going from the U.S.? Seems we can't get any info from USAB.

The dates are October 15-22.

It looks like team USA is not doing so well in the World Cup. Although I don't know if it is true, I have heard that some of the scoring is very biased against USA boxers sometimes at tournaments such as this.

Sigh. Team USA is not doing well - and with Cuba next? Ugh. Yes, the scoring/refereeing is sometimes biased but not always. I haven't heard any comments yet, so will reserve judgement until the coaches get home. :( And the losing scores weren't even close.

As you can see, the competition is tough: The United States is one of eight countries competing in the team event with Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan representing the European Continental zone, Kazakhstan and Thailand representing the Asian zone, Cuba and the United States serving as the Americas zone representatives and a United team competing for the African zone. Will probably come down to Russia and Cuba, as usual.

I have no doubt the hometown team gets the benefit of the doubt, but like Mel said, those scores are reeeeaaaaalllllly wide.

OTOH, that US team is not the top group, from what I am learning. I reckon only two of those guys are clear Olympic frontrunners, IMO, and one is Rau'Shee Warren who won impressively (Willett being the other). The rest are in the mix, but not dominant, so I could accentuate the positive and say that that was a really nice win for Andrade, who didn't fight at the PAL Championships, but is definitely a contender in the deep 165 weight class.

Yes, this US team don't look strong at all. It will be interesting though to see what young Raushee Warren can do against Rigondeaux. That should be a really good fight.

No 60 or 64kg fights? Those were the two weight divisions Kazakhstan won aganst Cuba.

The US team did better at 54, 69, 75, 81, 91, and 91+ than Kazakhstan did against Cuba. Accentuate the positive, right 8) Rau'Shee right with Rigondeaux certainly is promising.

The scores round by round were: 6-3, 6-4, 4-5, 5-5. It seems Warren can become a serious threat to Rigondeaux's supremacy.

Rau'shee moved up in weight for this tournament. He normally competes at 112, so the fact that he came within 3 points of beating Rigondeaux is pretty impressive; Hector Ramos usually competes at 141; Andrade is normally 152 and I wonder what happened to Danny Garcia at 141? Maybe he was hurt in his bout yesterday. We definitely got a lousy draw.

Anyone has more info on the fights? 125 pounder Luis Del Valle is my friend and former gym mate and im really surprised to see he got stoped in the first by Gamboa.

The kid is one tuff sob who luvs to fight i wonder what happened there...

Del Valle is only 19 and with not too many international bouts. Gamboa is an olympic and panamerican champion and a great fighter. Not so surprising. Besides Del Valle also lost his first bout and I believe he isn't even the No 1 US fighter?

true theres a hughe diference in experience but Del Valle fought in the under 19 world championships in korea has won the last 2 ny golden gloves and the 2004 national golden gloves so its not like was way over his head going to the tournament.

About his ranking hes at #3 in the list but made it to semis in the PAL (im not sure if theyve added the points for that) #2 is Sadam Ali whom he beat 24-23 in the US championships and #1 is Mark Davis whom i believe is having some legal troubles so u could say hes up there in a fairly open division.

The thing is hes never been stopped and eventhought Gamboa is a monster its still surprising to see a 1st round stoppage as a result. I guess ill have to wait till they come back.

Luis is an above average boxer who can do well - depending on which Luis shows up. I've watched him since he boxed for Puerto Rico as a junior and have seen flashes of brilliance. However, I still don't think he's reached the totally elite stage. It's going to be very interesting watching him in 2007.

that seems to be true. He seems able to beat the best one day then gets surprised by someone hes allready dominated before. 2007 should be the diciding year. He will be a fan favorite as a pro for sure but he seems so close to making the olimpic team at times that makes it worth the try.
Came up short at the PAL by loosing to a guy hes allready beat in the semis lets see how he does in his next shot.
