Trinidad Calls Out Calzaghe/JC-Kessler negotiations begin
Calzaghe-Kessler negotiations have started for an HBO date next year. Live HBO, that is.
The main three are 1) Kessler, 2) Hopkins, 3) Taylor. I have a feeling 2 is retired and 3 has his hands full with Wright!
Trinidad expressed interest in a fight, also.

It may have been entertaning pre-Hopkins but i wouldn't want to see a ring rusty, bloated version of Trinidad rumbling with Calzaghe...no thanks. Calzaghe V Kessler is the only fight that interests me at the moment and i am glad HBO are interested too, casting their net wider than an exclusive American based output.

Blame Larkin, he's filling Warren's head with all this tripe, particularly the Tito bit. Everyone - from Warren to Larkin & Sugar Ray - are whispering "America, America, Hopkins, Tarver, Johnson" in his ear every time. If Kessler gets overlooked I'll be sickened.vargas wrote:No way he should fight Trinidad. Both Winky Wright and Hopkins schooled him, so obviously Calzaghe should be fighting one of those two. Tito's name would look good on Joe's record, but a win over Kessler would gain him so much more credibility.
Calzaghe should go to America when he decides to make a mark on light heavyweight. No one's going to demand he fights over there after beating Bika on HBO B.A.D. Reason he was on B.A.D is because they wouldn't approve his opponent but still maybe want a piece of him.
I still think Glen Johnson for the interim IBF Light Heavy title is a possibility.
Woods injured, Johnson appears to have a legitimate case for an immediate rematch. The IBF going down the interim route more and more (Julio Diaz is the interim champion).
Not sure I would be that pleased, but I can definately see it happening.

Yep, Julio Diaz is the current interim champion at Lightweight.nickd wrote:Do the IBF have interim titles? I don't recall any interim IBF title fights, then again my memory is not what it once was!
Sharmba Mitchell was the interim champion before Tszyu bashed him around for a second time. Stewart vs Mitchell was for the interim title.

what's so funny about it? Kessler is a young, strong and hungry fighter in his prime. Glen is an old warhorse with more miles on the clock than the space shuttle. Sure, Glen's a good technical fighter, but he's definetly not what you would call fresh, and has already shown he can be beaten at LHW. I think Joe would have a hard time with Glen, and might even Favour Johnson to win, but Kessler could prove to be every bit as hard, and in terms of legacy is the more important win than a belt hopping exericse.glahn wrote:I also want to see him fight Kessler, but I have to laugh at people who accuse Joe of "ducking" him in order to fight Kessler, as though Kessler is the harder fight.
Fighting Glen isn't even about belt hopping...it's taking on a guy who's on the downswing (yet again...Mitchell, Eubank, Brewer) and claiming it to be the biggest fight of his career. Glen I feel beat Woods again, but even so, Clinton wouldn't even compete with Adamek, Erdei, Briggs, Dawson or Tarver at this point.jamesmcdonnell wrote:what's so funny about it? He wouldn't beat Briggs, Briggs brings similar things, but is younger and just better. That would be the best fight of the bunch. Dawson would just put on a boxing lesson, just like RJJ did without the flair and the TKO.lvlarc_uk wrote:Wouldn't "compete" is way overtop.
He would beat Tarver & Briggs. Dawson is still unproven.

I meant Hopkins, not Johnson. I don't think anyone in their right mind would want to see Calzaghe against Johnson.
Apart from Johnson himself! He looked pretty shot to me against Woods last time. Very near the end of the road.glahn wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:what's so funny about it? Calzaghe v Hopkins would be a great fight I'd still like to see that is the Kessler fight can't be made.
