Having said that, it could be the Welsh side of his genes - Tom Jones has gone through some pretty drastic action (scalp reduction surgery) and Ian Woosnam's clearly got some assistance with his new hairline.

as bald as a badger refers to the white part in between the two black edges of a badgers colouration giving the beast an appearance of baldness. it's the alliteration Bald/Badger and the fact that the badger is not bald - is in fact rather hirsute - that makes this phrase one of my favourites and much funnier than "bald as a coot"

In fact, the phrase is "as bald as a badger's arse" referring to the white patch on it's backside.

There is also 'as rough as a badger's arse' referring to the bristly nature of our set dwelling friends.

Not to forget as rough as a badger's tadger, see above.

Coots are not bald either, they just have a white patch on their head.

Baldness runs on the mother's side of the family, and so the status of the senior Calzage's bonce is not the issue, but rather the males on the mother's side of the family.

Coot's are terrible things, they drown about half their offspirng (or break their necks) every year in order to select the fittest ones (in sub-optimal years, which is virtually every year).
