First ballot entry...should be named on every voters card! He was not one of my more favorite fighters over the past twnety years, but he certainly, without a doubt, is one of the best and he would match up well against pretty much any fighter in history of his weight! No fighter of the last twenty years has a record so full of elite opponents like De La Hoya does. His record, in terms of quality opposition, rates right up there with some of the best in history and his accomplishments are really historic in numbers terms, but all-around De La Hoya was a great fighter who was able to adapt to most any situation in the ring of which he only failed a couple of times...the first bout with Mosley he clearly lost and the Hopkins fight he clearly lost and there were a couple others that were very close. Trinidad was one of my very favorites during the time, but De La Hoya easily beat Trinidad in they're bout...it was one of the worst decision that I have seen as Trinidad won the fight based on two round...the final two, but I was happy at the time that Trinidad got the decision, even though he should not have!
Is De La Hoya Hall of Fame worthy? Absolutely...no question about it...hands down. He was one of the top 3 to 5 P4P fighters of the last twenty years and his record shows the kind of success in the ring that others just dream about!

Look at the names on his record, whether you like him or not he is without a doubt a certainty for the hall of fame. Name another championoverhand_right wrote:How many times has DLH been undisputed champ in any of the divisions that he's won alphabet or WBO belts in?
Something that is definitely worth discussing. Sometimes his career looks more like a shrewd PR event by the DLH team & HBO.
in his era who has fought that level of competition. Barrera maybe, that's about it.
You could argue he held the lineal title from light-welter to light middle which is quite an achievement and definately worthy of HOF.overhand_right wrote:How many times has DLH been undisputed champ in any of the divisions that he's won alphabet or WBO belts in?

However I have seen him billed as five weight world champion which is bullshit as he only held WBO at lightweight and middleweight. So yes he is overhyped but still a great fighter.

Six-weight, if you count the WBO (130 135 140 147 154 160). At light-weight he unified WBO and IBF titles (against Ruelas).J-C wrote:You could argue he held the lineal title from light-welter to light middle which is quite an achievement and definately worthy of HOF.overhand_right wrote:How many times has DLH been undisputed champ in any of the divisions that he's won alphabet or WBO belts in?

Anyone with Hopkins, Trinidad, Vargas, Quartey, Mosley, Leija, Hernandez, Campos, Chavez, Whitaker and 6 titles on their resume should definitely be in the HOF. If he beats Mayweather or just makes it a stellar fight, then it's just icing on the cake.
