Wouldnt Monzon and Hopkins be two names in the running? Are there others who can match numbers of defenses and or longevity? I'm just going off memory here

If we're talking linear champ, I'm pretty its Monzon. Monzon definately has the most title defences, Hagler might have reigned longer. If Hopkins IBF reign counts, then he holds the record for both.

I thought Monz\on, but the usually excellent Wikipedia has stumped me, by stating:

Carlos Monzón (August 7, 1942- January 8, 1995) was an Argentine boxer who held the world middleweight title for 7 years, during which he made a then-division record of 14 defenses

Well the thing about wiki is that anyone can edit anything on the site...of which a lot, a whole lot, is just simply incorrect. I would not put a whole lot of faith into wiki articles unless you know who the writer of a certain article is, that is if you know that he is known for being accurate. But the site as a whole...well there is a ton of info, some of it good, some of it not!

Hagler? Isn't that the guy who lost to Sugar Ray and Willie Monroe? Or am I getting that name mixed up with Hamsho?
