It now doesn't look likely that Graham Earl, who BTW is fighting on Saturday on ITV 4, is going to fight for the WBO title.

It seems like Freitas has made a U turn and is set to fight Joel Casamayor in a unification fight.

It sounds like, according to the fightnews report, the Freitas had to announce Yesterday to the WBO what his intentions were - and he has stated that he will return.

A bit of hard luck for Earl, but as for the Unification fight..... can't wait.

Sounds like Cas vs Freitas II will be for the WBC/WBO titles.

Well, Earl vs. Katsidis is hardly a credible world title fight anyway, so this is probably a good thing. Maybe they should fight anyway. The WBO would probably sanction it as a number 1 contender's match.

I just read that Freitas had another week to decide if he wanted the title

I don't know about everyone else, but Casa-Freitas II sounds better than Earl vs whatsisname!

Another revenge win for the brilliant Cuban? Hope so.

Casamayor could still clean up the lightweight division and put himself in line for a place in the HoF. If he beats Freitas and the winner of Diaz vs. Chavez his record will start to look quite impressive. It's a big ask for him though at 35.

I think a Barrera vs Casamayor WBC/WBO Lightweight fight in a swangsong for both would be a compelling match up.

I think I'd pass on a shag with Charlise Theron rather than miss that one.

Casa-MAB would be really interesting. At this stage, we don't know if Barrera can take the pace of Pacquiao. But we do know he can match skills with anyone. That would be one hell of a classy fight!

Yes, he does - god knows what will happen to David Diaz now. Probably after the unification fight or Casa will vacate.

At this stage of his career, I don't want to see Casa fight Diaz. Diaz isn't really in his league and I only want to see Casa in the paydays his talent deserves.

Barrera, Pacquiao, etc. I don't want to see Casa in with at Light Welter. He's too small.

Good, we want to see the best fighting each other and hopefully Casa will avenge his "loss". Earl didn't deserve a title shot and will probably go down the WBU route he was going to before this shot fell into his lap.

Casa never deserved his shot either and fought average fighters since losing to Castillo though.

Boxrec says Freitas is managed by Sports Network, how many Sports Networks are there?

Cassamaya is a P4P top fighter whos proved himself time and again. He really beat Castillo on my card, many had him beating Freitas, hes bveat Corrales, most had him beating hot prospect Kid Diamond. Hes proven elite, saying he didn't earn a shot at Corrales is like saying MAB didn't earn a trilogy against Morales or SRL didn't earn a shot at Hagler.

Earl is a decent top domestic/european level fighter who got 2 gifts against long time champ Vanzie. Those roberies will never make me a fan, that was a a very dodgy situation - especially in the second fight where they kept cancelling to purposely to piss Vanzie about knowing he was struggling with the weight - most still had it 9-3 to Vanzie, it wasn't close.

Needless to say I'd pick Cassa/Freitas/MAB to seriously school Earl

Freitas was a sports network fighter of sorts years ago, I doubt he still is though.

Blame the judges not Earl for the robberies. He doesn't decide who wins.

SRL got his shot against Hagler based on his popularity and being a former champ.

Depends on your definition of average, Lamont Pearson would beat all th opponents Earl has beaten with the possible acception of Ramanov.

Yes, Casamayor didn't look good beating Pearson, but that (as we have found out) is because Pearson still is a fringe contender - as opposed to Casamayor being seriously on the slide.

Of course he deserved his chance..... Many people think he should be undefeated..... He had beaten decent people after losing to Freitas and then beat Corrales and lost controvesially.... The first two fights alone were just reason for a rubber.

Anyway, its not Cas you should be annoyed with but Acelino Freitas making an U turn.

Or the WBO for bending over backwards for any big fighter since he can't make up his mind.

But Max, it's already been pointed out, El Cepillo's recent victim Lamont Pearson (and to my mind Kid Arky-barky-ramikulov-Igor-Rubicon whatsisface) would've arguably beaten any fighter that Earl has ever fought. Ergo, Casamayor deserved his chance. Why not start demanding that Earl fight a genuine world contender, in order to earn his chance?

I mean, what's your argument? That an English fighter is missing out on a world title fight? If that's so, why don't you start demanding that Earl fight one of the Diazes (can't remember which one's which this early in the morning)? Instead of castigating superstar fighters for wanting to unify the titles (however briefly), why not get behind that as it's a mildly constructive move?

I mean, Earl's still in his twenties, isn't he? He's (hopefully) going to be around for a while yet, and I for one would like to see him face a proper world championship level fighter in his eventual chance. I'd fecking LOVE for him to get a shot at Diaz or even the winner of Casa/Freitas. I don't think I'd like him to pick up the WBOllocks title by the backdoor route of fighting Katzidis (sp?) when anyone with half a functioning brain knows that the winner of Casa/Freitas or one of the Diaz's is operating several levels higher.

Not trying to have a go mate, just trying to plant seeds, you know?

But Freitas had another 7 days to make his mind up whether he wanted it. He made his mind up in time.

There is hope for Earl at world class. The win over Romanov was very encouraging. But he isn't there yet, certainly not.

Personally I'm GLAD all these weird WBO fights aren't happening, i.e. Freitas-Thaxton, Earl-Katsidis!

Casa figured Freitas out well before their fight ended. This time he's going to school the Brazilian. Can't wait.

As Stu says, it'd set up a huge Casa-MAB fight. Barrera couldn't resist a shot at a unified lightweight title.

If anyone deserves success, it's Casamayor. He's had very few favours in his career.

You can make a strong case that he didn't lose to Castillo, Corrales II, Raimykulov or Freitas.

Caa never gets enough credit. His longevity is very impressive and his comeback extremely dramatic. He's beaten Corrales in 2 out of 3 fights for fvck's sake.

Even though Corrales was drained last time, Casa was fighting a drained light welter who piled in fifteen pounds after. Yet Casa - 35 years old, I might add - took flush punches and never blinked. One observation - if ppl want to say Diego was sluggish, fair enough. But anyone notice how Diego easily took shots that were killing him in their first two bouts??

Casamayor's record speaks for itself, the guy has ducked no one and come out the wrong way of a fair few decisions. Shame he never met Mayweather when both were champions at SF. I pick him to win this rematch and beat Freitas, he was unlucky not to win the first fight.

Guess he will school Freitas with Freitas not being as active as he used to be.

Who has Raminov fought to be considered a threat at the time Earl fought him anyway? Was it because he stopped Vanzie and Earl twice had contriversial decisions?

And how was he alllowed to fight Earl being 20 pounds heavier? Unless the schedule got Raminov's weight wrong?

Maybe Casas punches aren't as sharp hence Corrales could take them

Would Pearson of beaten Vanzie or Raminov? Other than Casa and the Thai, Pearsons record is full of journymen.

It's not called the WBOllocks when Freitas holds the belt though.

Would Freitas of fought Corrales again if he had won against Casa?

How can we be so sure Barrera will go to Lightweight too? Wasn't it DLH that wanted him to do that? Thought Barrera wanted Pacman anyway?
