Oh well, so much for Earl's title chance.

But anyone notice how Diego easily took shots that were killing him in their first two bouts??
Maybe Casas punches aren't as sharp hence Corrales could take them
Maybe, but Casa landed some clean straight lefts that had Diego in serous bother in the 2 previous fights. IMO Diego wasn't at all fragile in that 3rd fight, and the extra weight plus rehydration had something to do with it.

Romanov looked close to world class in beating Vanzie and Murray Max, I feel if he was to get a rematch against Earl it would be a different story. Fair play to Earl, he fought the fight of his life in beating Romanov but I feel without the massive layoff it would be a different story, he didn't look as good as he had and didn't seem able to sustain his good work. You could still make a case for him winning that fight though and at 24 if he can get the fights I still think he can go far.

As for Earl, being beaten twice by Vanzie and very close to being stopped by Bennett doesn't fill me with confidence he'll ever top the Romanov result (no shame in that). Now the WBO is out of the question I feel he'll hang onto the WBU til Khan or Mitchell are ready to take it from him.

And how was he alllowed to fight Earl being 20 pounds heavier? Unless the schedule got Raminov's weight wrong?
Vanzie was world class imo, I think he was a better Bradford prospect than Junior Witter. Vanzie was a long time Brit champ and schooled Earl twice despite the decision going the wrong way and Raminoz destroyed Vanzie looking like tyszu in the process.

I thought the Raminov fight was closer than most on here will admit and I thought it could have gone to Ramniov curtesy of his better more accurate effective punches with some murderous power behnd them - he came close to stopping Earl after all.

Don't forget Raminov hadn't been in the ring in 14months when he fought Earl, if he wasn't ring rusty he would have won. But Earl did a great job that night none the less.

Was Raminov really 155 at the weigh in? Sounds hard to believe I think it must by a typo - must have been 135?

We all know that Romanov wasn't in the best of condition before Earl, with the layoff etc. Earl was a fair winner, but it was close and Romanov could've done much better under different circumstances.

But still, boxing is all about timing and Earl delivered, taking himself to a higher level.

I wasn't too angry at the verdict, I guess as a puncher I go for who lands the most damaging punches (ie effective punches) and thats why I prefered Romanov over Earl and Bika over Calazage. I still score round by round none the less but aren't a fan of pitter patter amateur scoring.

Would Pearson of beaten Vanzie or Raminov? Other than Casa and the Thai, Pearsons record is full of journymen.

It's not called the WBOllocks when Freitas holds the belt though.

Would Freitas of fought Corrales again if he had won against Casa?

How can we be so sure Barrera will go to Lightweight too? Wasn't it DLH that wanted him to do that? Thought Barrera wanted Pacman anyway?
A) Yes I do think both Kid arky-barky-raymikulov-Igor-rubicon & Pearson would've beaten both Vanzie & Romanov. You don't; let's agree to disagree as we're never gonna get a definitive answer, right?

B) yes it still is called the WBOllocks by me whoever holds it. However, the Wbollocks champion fighting (politricks aside) a unified (shoulda been WBC/IBF) champ -- Cassamayor -- makes for a more legitimate fight than Earl vs Katzidis. The belt is somewhat legitimised (or rather, Freitas makes a decent fist of legitimising his status as a "champ") by signing to fight the consensus number one fighter in the division. So again, as you seem to be ignoring me even when you quote me, what's your problem with the fight? Just jingoism, or are you actually trying to say that Earl versus Katzidis is a more legitimate fight than Freitas versus Casamayor?

C) I never mentioned about Barrera, forgive me I think that was Stu, but as you've intimated it: No I don't think we can be sure that MAB will go to lightweight. But for my money he's too smart to fight anyone he isn't damn sure he can beat; and I think that reasoning makes him more likely to take on the winner of Casa/Freitas than Pacquiao again.

D) I don't care whether or not Freitas is scared of Corrales. Ifs buts & maybes & a little beside the point.

One thing: Freitas wants the 2nd Casamayor fight to be in Brazil. Casa would be mad to agree with this, because although he's brilliant in these close fights, he NEVER gets the benefit of the doubt. Apart from vs Nate Campbell, which I felt he won fairly.

Casa should fight his mandatory, and just keep on defending his title until he comes unstuck.

I was talking to more than you when mentioning Barrera. Maybe your right about Barrera fighting people he knows he can beat.

Ok I'll agree to disagree as Pearson's record other than Casa and the Thai is shite.

I think Casa and Freita's is a bigger fight but I don't give a shit about them and would prefer to see Earl do well is why I posted and Freita's was retiring but never thought of fighting Corrales when he held the belt.

Nothing wrong with liking to see an English fighter do well either. I'm not that extreme would nationality as much as people here make out,

Okay mate. I just love boxing, and I want to see it flourish. I want it to be around in ten years time.

I think Casa/Freitas is one of the fights that keeps the sport alive, which is why I was getting kinda arsey about the vacant fight thing. Guys getting stripped randomly and fighters nominated for their belts who wouldn't beat them annoys the feck outta me.

And no, I don't really care about your nationalistic proclivities. Just when they coincide with fvcking up the sport I love.

Just an aside: Freitas is an easy guy to hate. Good-looking, riche enough to buy half his country... And have you seen the guy's girlfriend???

Man, people don't calm down over someone elses opinion.

I don't hate Freita's either, I'm just not bothered about watching him.

That fight will be only big on the other side of the atlantic and with the more hardcore fans, it might do well for boxing over there anyway, but no where else.

My views do not hurt or effect the sport either, alot of people prefer to support people from their own countries or regions, look at posts from Top Dog on Kevin Anderson. Alot of people are nationality biased. I just want to see Earl do well and would of hoped he fought for the belt and theres nothing completely wrong with that view.

People say that bullshit all the time about wanting boxing to be around in many years time, even in the past. Some fans get too negative and whiny over the sport though.

The last sentence has shown your maturity anyway.

Freitas wants the fight on the condition that it's in Brazil, from what I hear.

If Casa fights in Brazil, surely it's a final cash in fight?

Won by the skin of his teeth. I had it 6-5-1 Ramirez but the 11th round could of been 10-8 for Ramirez, both fights tonight quite similar and both need to improve.

Mitchell and Earl are quite similar, although I think Mitchell is a little better. They both have sloppy defences that they can get away with to a degree because they have decent whiskers, and they both need to work on getting a bit more leverage into their shots. At least Mitchell has time on his side though..
