Euro heavies this weekend....

Taras Bidenko in action against Andreas Sidon, and Alexandr Dimitrenko versus Gonzalo Basile.

Any thoughts, anyone? I quite like Bidenko -- thought he did quite well against Valuev (though it was years ago) and never seems to be out of shape. Sidon's a bit of a protected sideshow, I feel, so I'm going for Bidenko in nine or ten (not convinced Taras punches his weight).

Dimitrenko's a conundrum to me -- 6'7" and 17 1/2 stone but apart from a gif of him getting sat on his arse by an overhand right I've not seen him. However the Argie he's fighting I haven't seen at all, tho' I've heard he's a big lad too.

BTW, if this has been adequately covered please feel free to lock/delete the thread -- it just makes a change to have two twentysomething heavyweights to talk about!

Yes it's hard to know what to make of Dimitrenko, he's getting the BIG build up in Germany and has been very carefuly matched. I saw a fight of his last year and he looked good, blowing away the German champ early on. But I think that was more down the his opponent's glass chin than anything else.

Saw a hilarious clip of the Argie in the build up, he looks like something out of Mad Max: massive, with long hair and thick black hair all over his body, plus tatoos of the devil all over him as well. He was wildly slugging a couple of stumble bums through the ropes in the clips.
His record looks like a mirage though, and no doubt the Germans have picked the right opponent for their precious baby faced heavyweight hope.

You're right about Dimitrenko being protected; excuse my ignorance, but is Bidenko with a different promoter/manager? I mean, he fought [strike] mechagodzilla [/strike], er, I mean Valuev in like his third fight!

Dimitrenko is with Universum (Kohl) while Bidenko is with Spotlight (Poszwa). While Dimitrenko has been a Universum fighter all his career, Bidenko didnt become a Spotlight fighter until his 7th fight.

The Argie looks the typical south american heavy, agressive and very raw, so should be ready made for a well schooled and disaplined boxer like Dimitrenko.

shannon briggs stopped an undefeated south american 'ko specialist' in about 60 seconds during his recent bum of the month tour.... basile could go the same way.... altho dimitrenko seems quite a light puncher, he has good fast hands and the obvious height that cud see him have a chance against the big oaf valuev...

as for bidenko hes very good but a little too slim and paper weight to make a huge impact (hes a euro version of yanki diaz or kali meehan)..... sidon has a gr8 record but is old and going nowhere (stopped in 1 by dimitrenko is a little embarrassing )

Christ that looks like one bad dude -- nice proto-mullet thing going on as well. As J-C said, Dimitrenko looks a little bit like the kid who used to get picked on at school, doesn't he? After about a dozen years on the ol' HGH...

Yes, Mr Banjo-Baby, I thought about Dimitrenko's height RE: Valuev as well. I think it needs a six-and-a-half footer to reach the guy's chin... Be interesting to see what AD makes of The Illustrated Man.

meanwhile Drozd fights Firat Arslan (former Hobson opponent) in a WBA cruiser eliminator on the same bill. Should be a win for Drozd who, given the number of WBA cruiser champions knocking about at the moment, should get a shot at, um, someone, next up.

Well the Argie looked very impressive.... up until the fight started.

I think they forgot to tell him he was over for a fight. He looked very calm indeed, pushed out a couple of jabs, then Dimitrenko wacked him on his sky high chin and proceeded batter the hell out of him until his corner threw in the towel.

The good thing is tha twe will get lots of undercard action. They are showing the full Brähmer vs Mora fight at the moment, and there will be plenty of time left after that also.

Drozd result quite a shock.

Dimitrenko result a slight shock, although with all due repect, the number of Argentine heavies with good records coming and having a right royal battle with a euro heavy are few.

Can't believe Roth didn't ko Petranyi either. Thank God the Dutch Sonny Liston's back, he'll whip 'em all into shape

Dieter Roth and his brother Egon are both terrible, they both fight consistently dire opposition. And i agree with Jomo, how did Petranyi last the 4 round distance?

Sounds like Dimitrenko walked straight thru' Basile like a man through a swing door -- at the very worst, it's what young unbeaten prospects are supposed to do to fringe/obscure guys this early in their careers...

Read that Bidenko wore down Sidon as well.

How's that for a natural match? Bidenko versus Dimitrenko, then the winner gets an EBU shot -- and maybe, just maybe, whoever comes out top of the pile then would become a legitimate way to get a decent world ranking for the winner of Skelton/Fraudley.

Actually, the EBU heavyweight scene... S'all a bit exciting if you look at it like that, isn't it?

PS: Dimitrenko must've really [/] hated those tatts of Basile, eh?

I like Bidenko. I think he's a decent fighter who has consistently been matched hard (well, for a modern heavyweight) and rarely found wanting. Losing to Valuev on points in your fourth pro outing is no great shame, and he was easily outpointing Virchis up until the stoppage. It'd be interesting to see him in with Dimitrenko or any of the other up and coming heavyweights, really. A couple more solid wins and he'll be a genuine contender.
