by taking this fight fehintolas managerial team had tried to jump a few divisions at once. the gamble failed unfortunately as their charge was dismantled by the leeds boy.
many thought that this was a perculiar sanction by the BBB of C and im inclined to agree, femi had no experience of boxing off the back foot and this was always going to be what would happen. femi had also no experience of boxing at this level and this intensity.
where does femi go from here..... well, he has a reasonable fan base and therefore a certain amount of marketability, but sad to say that sub british title level is probably his ceiling in this game. mainly because of his lack of punching power i feel. he should focus on the english title i feel, i think billy corcoran is eligible for this, that might be a decent fight.......but unfortunately its only an undercard scrap.
where does carl go from here..... well, im not convinced he has too much more to offer the game than british championship level, perhaps european at most. he has power yes, but fehintola showed enough flaws in johannsens make up to suggest that if goes in with someone who can box and punch and hold a few shots, then it could be interesting.
im glad both boys came through the fight unscathed. im disappointed in fehintolas corner for complaining that the second knockdown was a low blow (especially after whinging about the matthew hatton fight not many weeks ago). it was a great body shot that hit femi on the wasteband of the shorts, which were slightly high. im astute enough to realise that its easy for me to see with the hindsight of a tv recording..in retrospect im sure team femi will realise the quality of the shot that floored their man.
Generally agree with this post. Unless Femi can boil down to feather, which I doubt, I cannot see him winning the British title. Indeed the English title might beyond him depending on the champion. For example, I would favour Billy Corcoran convincingly over Femi.
I also agree that I don't think Johannson will progress much further.. For me, it was the same Johannson that struggled to get past Andrew Ferrans (the first time). I would probably favour Craig Docherty (if he hasn't retired) over him and even (if the rumours are true) the comebacking Michael Gomez would provide a hell of test.... What a fight that would be, and what an atmosphere - with the Man Utd vs Leeds Utd thing going on.
The only thing that made me think that Johannson could progress alot futher is maybe him knowing Femi as he did knew he could beat him in 3rd gear and the defensive weaknesses and finishing issues that I thought he had would not be shown in a fighter he might be more weary of.... Maybe the Corcoran performance over Rutherford frightend him, and thats why he put in such a clinical display. Maybe thats why he beat Ferrans easy in the rematch.
Also agree with your point on the sanctioning, it was a strange one especially in light of the BBBoC refusing to sanction Allan Bosworth in order to save a show. However, Fehintola wasn't a mandatory and I think given the depth in the devision is borderline top 10 - so it was just about plausable.
