Does anyone think because Baldomir couldn't do shit, that it would be the same for Margarito or Quintana?

After seeing Paul Williams tonight, Margarito must be rubbing his hands together. For that matter, he'd be doing the same for Floyd - that is, if he ever would face him.

It is presumed that Marg faces Williams after the tough Clottey. I doubt that he'd vacate his belt for Williams.

Margarito and Arum have conviently not mentioned Williams name, they also plan to fight Cotto if he beats Quintana - which means yes they'll drop the WBO.

Thanks fvck for fighters like Kessler & Taylor. It's not too much to ask for them to take on top 10 boxers from their own divisions.

This used to be the norm; now it's the exception.

I gave up on boxing - admittedly when I was a casual fan - when Hopkins took on Carl Daniels/Hakker & when MAB settled for little Tapia & old Kelley. But last night was an even worse waste of talent, time and money.

Apparently Arum did offer Mayweather an opportunity to fight Margarito.... but it was significantly less than for fighting for the lineal championship.

To get Marg vs Mayweather, Arum is going to have to over significantly MORE than what Mayweather was offered (and now recieved) for Baldo.... cause Baldo was the better opponent from an historic point of view.

I agree with you on Margarito. He's a very good fighter. A lot of people over here are defensive about Floyd. So they definitely have a big reason to criticise Margarito.

There have been so many recognized champions at 147. Forrest/Mayorga/Spinks/Judah/Baldomir & now Mayweather. I can't see how Margarito's to blame for the fights not happening.

Interesting that Cotto's name came up. If Cotto beats Quintana, I'd love to see Marg-Cotto. Because Cotto will have major credentials (140 titlists 6 defenses, and a major belt at 147 vs a skilled opponent). Certainly better credentials than Williams.

Whatever, Margarito vs any of those are compelling fights. Add Clottey to those as well.

FYI, I don't see Margarito necessarily as the division's main man. Nor is he my favorite fighter. He's one of several very good fighters that Floyd will not face. He has beaten 5 top 10 welters. There are also good wins that no one knows about/mentions, which is why I brought up the Ankamah win.

Imo Margarito was ahead in the Santos fight. Not only that, Santos looked to be on the way out having used a ton of energy to keep away from Margarito. And that fight means nothing anyway in a Margarito vs Mayweather fight. Daniel Santos is much bigger than Floyd. And not a bad fighter himself.

Haha.....Baldo can't punch! It totally had everything to do with Gatti and Judahs chins. Arturo Gatti has been hurt by everybody, even when he fought much smaller men at lower weights. Its his heart that is good, not his chin and defence. And Zab Judah had a horrible chin even at light-welter, pretty much anyone who hits it has a chance.

Baldomir has 14 KO's in 59 fights. That is horrible for the level he has been fighting at his whole career, up until he fought Judah. Look at his punch technique. He loops slapping punches. This is why he never had a shot at Floyd.

Williams has been calling Margarito out for the last year and he's been his mandatory for 5 months. Just as Arum (PBf's ex promoter) has been calling out Floyd to fight Tony. Margarito keeps saying everyone is ducking him. Winky offered him a payday at 154 and now Williams wants him.

Well, Sharmba Mitchell was designed to be Floyd's testing waters at 147.... and at the time his resume was every bit as strong as Collazo. Collazo had just made the 1st defence of his newly crownd WBA title (so I am not sure he was available anyway).... but his two wins as a world champion were only slightly better than Shamba's impressive performance over Chris Smith, Smith was the NABA champion is quite decent.

Isn't Williams in line to fight for the WBA title, I thought his fight with Walter Matthyse was an eliminator for the WBA title. So maybe he is in line to fight the Cotto vs Quintanta winner.

If this does happen, then we have a massive fight for Floyd against the most credible opponent.

I don't think nobody is denying that Marg, Quintanta, Cotto, and Williams have potential.... but they have to prove themselves.

As for your last paragraph, I am sure you are aware that retirement seems likely for Baldomir now.... but I would have the same stance on the big 4 contenters frequently mentioned. If Floyd handles them, they can still come back and increase Floyd's legacy. I'm not calling them crap by any means, just saying they haven't proven themselves.

Collazo's win over JA Rivera looks even better now. Rivera being a very promising junior middle titlist these days.

I like the way he came back against Hatton. He looked like he had nowhere to hide at the beginning. Yet he weathered the storm & had Hatton looking well worried.

Cotto and Quintana are only one fight away from being excellent welters. Look what a win will do for each. Will go nicely with Cotto's 6 WBO defendes at 140. And a Quintana win will complement that win over Julio brilliantly.

Margarito has beaten whatever top ten fighters he can get in the ring. Clottey is a top 10 contender. This should be a war, I can't wait for Margarito-Clottey. Clottey is a top 10 fighter, and is also a hard b~stard.

Not sure what Williams is doing. He's #1 WBO, & probably #1 to Mayweather now. I don't know if Williams actually wants a title shot just yet. Of all the fighters he may be the least ready.

Why not take genuine risks, i.e. in fights that he could possibly lose.

If Hatton doesn't go after this clown, this bloated super feather who is just waiting to get bullied, then ppl won't forgive Ricky. Mayweather loves to pivot and counter. Hatton is great at keeping on opponents' backs and refusing them a respite.

It's not like Mayweather has the speed of the Chavez fight, where he could just slide away brilliantly. This is 17 pounds heavier. Hatton or even Margarito could make him regret carrying all that weight.

Got back from long a weekend away and just watched the PBF-Baldomir fight. Thought that PBF put on an absolute masterclass of defensive boxing. Baldomir was just no where near in his class and had no tools to deal with him. Even when Baldomir had him up close on the ropes he couldn't even hit him. PBF's footspeed and reflexes are something else.

However, there is still a void in trying to put this fight into perspective. PBF is clearly a few levels above the Baldomirs of the boxing world and needs a superfight. The trouble is there appears to be too few fighters that can satisfy that billing. ODLH is perhaps the only one, with maybe the winner of Cotto/Quintana a possibility. Until these fights take place the jury will out on PBF's overall legacy at the higher weight.
