Mayweather v De La Hoya

Assuming the fight happens..........

Everyone seems to be going for Mayweather, but i am convinced De La Hoya will have his number. De La Hoya has a granite chin and the light punching Mayweather is not going to give him any trouble. I actually think it will be quite an easy night for him. I predict a De La Hoya stopage somewhere during the middle rounds!

i picked oscar by decision with the qualification that the contracted weight is 154, since oscar is calling the shots as the big draw (against ANYbody)...i feel the extra 7 pounds will make it difficult for PBF to adjust his footwork without a tuneup at that weight first!! that's what happened when he fought castillo first time without a tuneup at that weight!!

if he comes in at 147 even tho the fight is signed for 154, then oscar will be too big for him...i see floyd winning if they fought at 147, but oscar wont come down that low for anyone!! at 150, i call it any even money fight!! and i disagree with you that it will be easy night for oscar even at 154!! he will have trouble with PBF's quickness & have a hard time landing as much as he would like too!! oscar by close decision, same for floyd at 147...150 pounds=a draw!!

I think it would be a very close fight. DLH would do much better than Baldo if he had Floyd in the corner, as he did numerous times. DLH can flurry with success and win rounds with it. DLH has very good boxing skills, I can't see him not being able to adjust to Floyd. Look at how he adjusted to Hopkins and did very well (for five rounds) despite being way beyond his weight class. I also wouldn't rule out a stoppage win for DLH. I hope this happens but absolutely no chance of it happening at Welter.

I don't believe Mayweather could even tickle De La Hoya with his punches. It's a big event but not a good fight IMO. Mayweather is a better fighter at this stage but he would be dwarfed. These aren't the kind of ingredients I look for in a mega-showdown.

Crikey it will be interesting, but I've never backed against DLH and I don't think I would now.

DLH by late KO or majority decision.

Somebody mentioned DLH/Mayweather in the same breath as Chavez/Whitaker (can't remember where, sorry), but for me it's a much more even fight -- DLH hasn't gone back as much as JCC Superstar had, and Oscar has height & reach over Floyd.

I think, if Oscar's as sharp as a 33 yr. old can be, he's got the jab and the wingspan to beat him.

For everyone who disagrees: fair enough. But SS Mosely was always faster than Vernon Forrest, wasn't he?

Oscar isn't as defensively savvy as Vernon was, and both Forrest and Wright have far better jabs than Oscar does.

Mayweather UD, he comes in at 150-152 and is too fast for Oscar to do much. Oscar was getting hit by Mayorga pretty well and easily stood his ground, but the point being is that he was hit by Mayorga.

At welterweight it would have been a pick 'em 5 years ago. Now, Floyd by UD. Same goes for Mayweather v Sugar Shane.

Really? If Floyd was at welterweight 5 years ago, I would of went for Oscar by decision or KO. Now I think it's a pickem though.

Oscar is great at closing the gap, he doesn't waste any energy and doesn't throw looping shots. There's alot of thought to Oscar's work, very methodical and can still bang with the best.

Honestly, I still wouldn't rule out Oscar by late stoppage should they fight.

absolutely!! ive been saying all along its a 50-50 matchup & that oscar can definitely TKO floyd in later rounds!! his best display of power in his ENTIRE CAREER was the mayorga fight a few months ago...and that came after a 13-month layoff!! oscar has lost speed but has gained power, which sometimes happens in 30s!!

oscar is either trying to build demand with suspense (like leonard did with hagler before they finally fought) is just plain WORRIED after floyds domination of a much bigger man that he has no better than 50% chance of beating floyd & that is too much of a gamble!!

Sorry, that came out a little wrong... what I meant was that the DLH or Mosely of 5 years ago fighting the Mayweather of today would have been pick 'em matchups.

The debate about it makes it interesting.

I am in a minority - I think ODLH will walk through him easily, I'll be having a decent four figure bet on ODLH in one or two.

I have to say, I didn't think Floyd looked very good against Baldomir. Unlike a lot of others, I think I gave Baldomir the 1st couple, and I thought Floyd looked rather concerned when Baldomir did land some shots to the body, which he did throughout the fight.

Previously, I thought that Floyd would have too much for Oscar, and maybe he does, but I don't think he will be able to just run like that against Oscar and prevail, Oscar's quicker than Baldomir, and a lot smarter too.

I'm not sure who I favour any more, I didn't think Floyd looked very convincing as a Welterweight. Sure, he won a shutout, but it wasn't very stylishly done, just poshotting on the retreat the whole fight.

I think it'll be a close fight but think Oscar will edge a points win. He's bigger, stronger and tougher than anyone Mayweater has fought. Castillo gave him trouble and Baldomir was able to put some pressure on him in their fight. I certainly wouldnt rule out Floyd winning but I'd have to back DLH.

More rubbish from Oscar - he says it's off in one breath, then hints it could be on in the next.

Floyd should forget about accepting it at LM, but at 147 I'd back him to beat Oscar.

ODH would probably manage to hurt him at some point, but I get the impression PBF is just one of those fighters who DOES NOT get knocked out - like Pernell Whitaker: hit him once with a good shot, but you can forget about landing any follow up shots.

I think he'd find a way to outbox and bemuse Oscar for a points win.

Oscar is basically saying to Floyd, "you can forget trying to give it the big one in negotiations, if you don't meet the terms I decide, feck off, and I'll go fight someone else, or just retire and deprive you of the payday you are looking for."

That's a terrible comparison for a Mayweather fight. Mayorga winds up and throws from a mile away, and that's all he does...he's gonna stand there, fight dirty, talk shit, and fire hooks and crosses, nothing else.

Trinidad already proved the guy is limited, and then proceeded to get his face boxed off by Wright. I wouldn't exactly say a 6th round KO proves anything new about Oscar, it just solidifies what we already thought about Mayorga.

I personally didn't think he'd KO Ricardo, but I also thought Ricardo would fight smarter than he did. I don't care how tough you are, you can sit there and exchange 3 or 4 for 1 and expect to be successful.

Mayweather is pretty much the opposite of Mayorga. Extremely good defensively, he's infront of you one second throwing lead rights, then he's out of there, and now you have to chase him down. Mayorga gets in front and stays there until you make him move.
