Lawrence Chapman vs Jaffa Ballagou.

Post by stujones »

Can anyone confirm what was the final decision of this fight. I thought it was a 2:59 second KO in the 10th and final round..... For months that what boxrec had it down as, now I read it was points decision with the points tally on their record over here.

It was televised, so I am sure confirmation would be easy to get hold off - but my version of the fight the tape stopped before official confirmation.... but the commentators were suggesting its a last second KO. Chapman was out as the bell landed and in no way looked to beat the count. But question was, could the bell save him under the ruling?

The Georgia state commission only reported a win for Ballogou & a
loss for Chapman which normally is interpreted as a decision win.
If it was a TKO the commission would have said so.

Jose E. Santiago; FightNews -June 17, 2006 also reported a decision.

Yes, I believe it was officially a decision win - did a bit of research around after also. Apparently it was the time keeper who told the ref the punch landed after the bell..... Absolutely no chance it did, but ultimately the ref had to do trust the judgement of his fellow official.

Jaffa was robbed of a KO victory IMO, it DEFINATELY landed before the bell. Lawrence was on the floor as the bell sounded.
