Tony Dodson - Are you good value to win at 11/2?
Tony Dodson - Are you good value to win at 11/2?
It is a while since I've had a decent bet on the boxing. Been burnt a couple of times (had Rahman to beat Maskaev and worst of all Juarez to beat Barrera in the rematch...) but still doing ok for the year after I backed Winky and Taylor for the draw at 20/1.
Based on the best price offered by the bookies, a bet of £180 on Dodson to win will earn profit of £1,000.
What do you lads think, is it worth a punt? Bare in mind the same size bet on Froch would earn profit of £15.
I'll wait until closer to the fight before deciding what sort of size bet to have but will definitely have something on him.
Still two weeks away I know but come on Dodson - I'm sure a few of us here will be counting on you. Best of luck with the training & hope you can shut him up!

Good luck to you though - Dodson has a better than 11-2 chance

I still favour Froch in this one, despite his many flaws, he has always come through and got the result - Although he wont get away with that at world level.
The question I dont know the answer to is can Dodson exploit Froch's carelessness? - If he can, then imo he'll win.
Dodson is certainly talking himself up for this one, and credit to him for 'wanting' the fight - Should be a good un!

well, out of Tony's mouth during an eastsideboxing interview:
Moreno, he only beat me on a cut. I pounded him for every round, was seven points clear when the fight was stopped. Rybacki, I pounded him, he only beat me on a body shot. He hit me with a body shot that winded me, it never hurt me though. I was 4 points clear going into the last round and he just hit me with one of those shots that I wasn’t expecting, and it winded me. I got my breath back, and my pride and inexperience took over, and I tried to slug it out with him. Instead of just bouncing away and using my boxing ability, I got involved. You see in most of my fights I love a scrap, and he just caught me off guards. Even his manager Krzysztof, the fella that works for Barry Hearn, said to me it shouldn’t have been stopped and that I should have been given the benefit of the doubt as I was the champion and well ahead on the cards. There was ten seconds on the clock before the end of the round and I wished they’d have given me the benefit of the doubt, but it’s just one of those things, and it goes to show I’ve had some tough early fights in my career. The guy was 12 fights unbeaten, 7 knockouts, he was a decent fighter, and I pounded him for 7, 8 rounds before getting tired due to old stamina problems I had.
That's interesting stuff. Would still like to read an independent view of it but taking what he said into consideration:
Rybacki was a bit of an unknown quantity at 11-0 (when he fought Dodson in 2002), but only fought twice since then, winning both, so it's difficult to tell how good he was, but if Dodson was four points ahead going into the last round, he was probably the better fighter and Rybacki possibly got lucky.
As for Moreno, again Dodson was miles ahead on the cards - seven points & was stopped by a cut. Prior to fighting Dodson, Moreno was stopped by Erland Betare (24-7-2). Morrade Hakkar (21-2) and Javier Castillejo (52-5). All TKO stoppages so the guy probably had an ok chin.
Going by what Dodson says, these losses are potentially excusable in some form, but as I already said, I'd like to read an independent view of them. The time away that Dodson has had may also come into it. He has had four warm up fights between September 05 and June 06, but the longest any of these have gone is four rounds - so he has fought 15 rounds in total. In comparison, Froch has been in with better opposition and between July 05 and May 06, has also stayed busy and fought four times, but the big difference is in round boxed where Froch has been in 37 rounds during those fights, plus was already a busy fighter before they began.
Should be a good scrap anyway, I'm looking forward to it.

With Tony D being as up for this fight as he's ever been, you'd expect him to make it a very tough night for Froch - could be a war in fact.
But outside injury or cuts, I think Carl has the edge in class, plus the get out of jail punch as well. Late stoppage for Froch...or a fired up Dodson might take it to points.
Either way Carl should come through a testing night on Friday.

I think the fact that Dodson is so up for this fight means he's likely to walk into something big. For as long as it lasts its going to be an action fight but i think we'll see Dodson get caught and taken out between 4-6.MightyWarrior wrote:With Tony D being as up for this fight as he's ever been, you'd expect him to make it a very tough night for Froch - could be a war in fact.

Dodson = £7.20 currently (approx 13/2)
You could lay an amount for higher though and hope to have it accepted.
