No idea why it stopped. Certainly have not seen it in the past 10 years.
I guess we just live in a different generation now..........

Chris Sanigar was in some real wars in his time, an all action fighter. His fight with hard hitting Sid Smith ( off tv ) must've earned nobbins - BN reported it was one of the most ferocious seen in a long time.Jamie Sanigar wrote:Odin & Alliss definatley deserved nobbins one of the best small hall fights I have seen in recent years. Odin was relentless that night! Alliss was in another war worthy of nobbins against Peter Haymer.
My dad Chris said that he got nobbins on many occasions. He said when he boxed at the Cafe Royal, Picaddily against Roy Varden and Gary Pearce they threw nobbins in the ring. Against Gary Pearce they said it was the most they had seen thrown in the ring in a long time. In his last fight against Rocky Kelly they also threw nobbins into the ring. Dad said it was a shame they did not have pound coins in those days so it was mainly silver coins. But he did recall some people would roll a £5 note up around a coin and throw it in. Apparently the whip would collect it all up and split it with the boxers after.
Does your dad have videos of any of his fights Jamie, like the Smith fight?

i agree with jamie, its a generation thing.Surely the moore v macklin fight was deserving?Small hall show,no nobbings there.I remember mid 80s at free trade hall show, guy called mike whalley, local featherweight at time.Loads of money sailed into ring.Great thread and brought back some brill memories.Nice one
