Molitor - Is he really so good?
Molitor - Is he really so good?
Will Molitor be another Al Seeger? Seeger, stopped by Ponce de leon recently, had a reputation of being a fine boxer yet he had barely ventured out of his hometown and was painfully exposed by De Leon.
Molitor has seldom fought outside of Canada. Do we know ANYTHING about any of his opponents, aside from Nicky Booth? Molitor has only 8 KOs from around 22 wins. He says part time pound for pounder Israel Vazquez ducked him. But can anyone back this up?
What I'm driving at is, is Molitor the Quality Boxer that everyone says he is? How do we know he's that good?

Took this paragraph from Maxboxing relating to his past opponents.
He has fought many fighters who at one time held or fought for world titles. They include Jose De Jesus Lopez who lost a championship fight to Wladimir Sidorenko less than a year ago; Nicky Booth from whom Molitor won the British Commonwealth title; Julio Coronel who fought Michael Carbajal, Veeraphol Sahaprom, Adan Vargas, and Tim Austin; Hugo Dianzo, a one time NABF champion and opponent of Tim Austin; and Pedro Javier Torres who fought Johnny Tapia and won the South American title. In early 2006, Molitor earned his position as a mandatory challenger for the IBF crown, and nearly a year later he’s finally getting his shot.

I seem to remember that Nicky was favourite to beat Molitor before thier fight, but he was completly outboxed by the Canadian, IMO Booth and Hunter have similar styles, come foward agression, so Hunter may play into Molitor's hands.
Also I wouldn't read to much into Molitor not fighting away much, he beat Scotty Olsen in that fighters hometown, Molitor then went to Nottingham to beat Booth.
I've seen a few of Molitors fights, and to me he looks special, nothing seems to faze him in the ring, he's completly focused. I don't think the lack of a big punch is that much of a problem, as his all round skills are superb.

Molitor's fought mainly out of Canada but what his record doesn't indicate is how many times he's fought in opponents backyards. I know for a fact that Molitor is an unknown underappreciated guy even in Canada. His fight against Hunter isn't even been shown live on TV over there.
He's a quality operator no doubt and genuinely good, but fighting in Hartlepool will be a new experience to him. His lack of power is a problem and im hoping that Hunter can get to him in a similar way he got at Esham Pickering but its a tough fight. If Molitor is having early success then Hunter is probably f*cked. Hunter has to get onto this guy from the off, rough him up and not let him get any rhythm or fluidity going.

Never seen him myself, but I'll take your word for his skills.topper123 wrote:I seem to remember that Nicky was favourite to beat Molitor before thier fight, but he was completly outboxed by the Canadian, IMO Booth and Hunter have similar styles, come foward agression, so Hunter may play into Molitor's hands.

I don't think Olson is a great win. Olson was a junior flyweight nearly was in the Carbajal era, wasn't he?

Only seen Molitor v Booth, but on that form he looked real class: excellent boxing skills and a cool head. Hunter will no doubt have his hands full tonight, but home ground can mean a helluva lot for a fired up pressure fighter like Hunter.
The first few rounds will probably give a good indication as to whether this is gonna be Hunter's night or not.

Looks like Booth was his best win.
A lot of what Conway says can be seen as exaggeration. I mean, Sahaprom & Carbajal fought their share of cream puffs. And German-based Sidorenko's opponents aren't exactly pulled from the top of the ladder.
On the contrary, Cordoba, Kratingdaenggym, Agbeko are very tough opponents, all top ten at 118 IMHO. Agbeko needs to get his shit together, hasn´t fought in two years. :(

Seems a pretty sound bet, though I nearly had a heart attack last time I put money on Wlad v Peter.johnswan1 wrote:Nah, I think he'll win. I'm gonna go on a treble - Molitor, Oquendo and Klitschko all to win. Combined odds represents just over 2/1.viciousmaussa wrote:So, is anyone going to crawl out of the woodwork and tell me that Molitor is "overrated", "fought only bums", etc?
Brock looks made for him though.

Molitor's classy and very smooth and if Hunter can't a) hit him he can't b) hurt him which means I think he's in for a very difficult evening and likely to get outboxed most of the way. Not sure if Molitor can stop him, he's not a puncher at all, but he's very consistent, well-schooled and will be in great shape despite recent activity.
Hunter, fighting in front of his home fans, can make life uncomfortable for the Candadian if he has a sensible plan of attack. If he bundles straight ahead, chances are he'll get outboxed and run out a loser by four/five points on the judges cards.
But if he can cajole Molitor into standing and trading and use decent angles and attack the body, he can get into the fight.
From what I've seen of Hunter he seems a very good domestic/European fighter with that lack of finesse that will just stop him short of moving up to world level.
From an English fan's point of view I wish him nothing but the best but I feel he could be in for a long and frustrating time this evening.
Molitor by 117/112 type scores on the judges' scorecards.
