Yes, Molitor was too good for Hunter. No disputes there, but Hunter boxed well to start with, lost his way and paid the price.
There's absolutely no disgrace in Hunter losing to Molitor.
Dave Garside and Sky could have found a cheap world title (ok, he did once before) and yanked out some unknown South American for Hunter to beat. Instead they treated the boxing fans to a genuine world title match and took on a superb athlete. I think it's poor form to slam Hunter etc after taking a tough route to the top.
i agree, i think hunter should have ripped into his opponent from the off as i believe you have to fight the way you know. he boxed for a couple of rounds didnt look to great doing that and the end was nigh from about halfway through r2.

In an atmosphere like that, I think Jim just got caught up in it all and was willing Hunter on more than anything. Can't have a perfect night everytime out - but I agree he does get hooked into a certain train of thought during fights, and rarely alters it.
Music to the ears compared to Duke though.
I must admit I expected Hunter to make more of a fight of it, but he never really got untracked. Now I wasn't expecting a Matthew Macklin type heroics, but I thought he'd go hell for leather a bit more in front of his own fans.
I was suprised that Hunter didn't come out way more aggresively from the off. I figured he would have just torn into Molitor hitting everything he could, this to me was his best chance and only real chance. He came out cautiously and although he didnt start too badly it allowed Molitor to get his boxing going and then we saw what happened.
To be truthful i think they could have given Hunter a baseball bat and he'd have still been beaten such was the disparity in class.

I thought Hunter did well the first two rounds, and I did think that Molitor looked a little initially unsettled by the tactics, which were good ones.
I think had hunter just torn in there, he would have gotten countered easily. Molitor was struggling with his timing to start with, but had hunter come winging in with that wide stance of his, it would have been easy to time him.
Few of Hunter's shots were landing flush, but he did nontheless land some decent shots in the first two rounds and was keeping Molitor negative to boot, which deserves some credit.

Hunters only real chance was to tear into Molitor. He was never going to outbox the guy. I agree that it took Molitor a couple rounds to get his timing going and he was probably a bit suprised that Hunter didn't go right at him and thats possibly why it took him a couple of rounds to get really going himself. But tearing right in and trying to crowd and maul Molitor was Hunters only chance and he should have jumped right on him as fast as he could an tried to get the crowd and some momentum going. I think we're all clutching at straws though really cos in truth Molitor was simply far too talented for Hunter who is a massive overachiever and has done well to even get the opportunity to fight for a world title against a genuine world class operator.
i think hunter did well enough fighting away from his natural style, i agreee he should have put as much pressure on steve as he could and unsettled the kid before he had a chance to get into his rhythm.
but he really didnt have the armoury to do that to any harmful extent or his corner would have gone that route from the off.
the bookies odds are nonsensical.
still rate jim watt but not his best night.
