Will Hatton -vs- Witter ever happen???????????
Will Hatton -vs- Witter ever happen???????????
What do you think? :)
I think it probably will at some point. If Witter holds onto his belt and Hatton stays at 140 lbs, he's bound to go looking for the WBC to complete the unification. Can't see it happning until late 2007 at the earliest, assuming Hatton beats Urango and Castillo and Witter makes at least one decent defense of his title. If Mayweather retires or loses and with Cotto at Welter, there wouldn't be many more big fights at 140 lbs for Hatton.
I can only really see it happening if either:
1 - Both are defeated and it's a last throw of the dice kind of fight, just pushing it as the ultimate domestic showdown when in reality it's all they have left.
2 - If Hatton is beaten and they pay Witter big bucks to defend his title against the Hit Man.
As long as Witter stays unbeaten (well I know he's not actually unbeaten but you know what I mean) then I don't see it happening.

12 months ago Hatton v Floyd was one of the most anticipated match ups in boxing.
Hattons uninspiring performances against Collazo and Maussa since have resulted in the cries subsiding and now Floyd v Margie is the fight that all boxing fans are baying for. (DLH aside)
Hattons next title challange is a fairly non discript match up that will not do anything for his appeal worldwide. He will probably find Cotto elevating himself above him on the PB wish list if he does not reassert himself at 140/147.
Whitter has a style that pleases nobody and no matter whether he wins or loses people will not flock to see him.
This match up is likely to be a last ditch attempt that will happen when Hatton finally realises just how lowly regarded he is in boxing now.
Whitter would take the fight at a drop off the hat but commercially he needs it. If he loses, I doubt if Hatton will ever take him on.

He's worked his ass off until he finally captured the WBC belt, of course he deserves it.Max Molyneux wrote:Don't see it happening.![]()
Even Graham has said Witter doesn't deserve it.
I still think Witter has the style to beat Hatton.
But I think it will take several defense's of the title before Hatton even contemplates getting in the ring with the Hitter.

I agree.
If the fight happens then it's 50/50 as it would have question marks due to the styles.
I favour Witter due to the way Hatton's going though at the moment.
Hatton's side say allkinds though.
On some interview before Callazo, one question was asked about if he ever got to fight in the man city staduim they asked who would he like to sell it out with and he mentioned Witter.
Now they say if HBO don't want it they won't fight him.
fornicate America, boxings doing terrible over there for most that they show more foreigners than there own on there tv!
