Iknow John Murray won young boxer of the year.... Got the years mixed up if you ask me. Should have been Murray last year, Mitchell (or Khan) this year.

Joe Calzaghe the IBF and WBO super-middleweight champion was last night named as British Boxer of the Year by the British Boxing Board of Control at their annual awards ceremony in Piccadilly, London.

Kevin Anderson's thrilling victory over Young Mutley at the Aston Villa leisure centre in Birmingham in June was recognised as the Fight of the Year.

Overseas Boxer of the Year went to the Commonwealth bantamweight champion Tshifhiwa Muyai who visited Britain twice stopping Martin Power and Lee Haskins. Munyai will be back again in January for a rematch with Martin Power.

The Sportsmanship Award went to WBO world cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli and former British champion Mark Hobson

A special award for Services to the Sport went to veteran manager and promoter Jack Bishop of Southampton.
