No, I have no connection with Spud, I'm afraid. I used to work with him when Ben Carey edited the UK section of doghouseboxing, and since then I've posted on a couple of other forums where Spud has posted.

We haven't always got along, as Rhino will testify, but, I do think the hammer he's got here is a little unfair given that he and Ben were only offering an opinion.
The 2 idiots deserve all they get.

Boxrec is a good forum and those 2 arseholes should just piss off back to butthole.com and edit and ban people who do not share their views.

Spud and Bent Farey - 2 well known Internt arseholes - Adios girls!

Re: The Fight!

Hopefully Dodson pulls of what would be a minor upset in my book - Dodson hits harder than Magee who may well have been weak at 12st - who knows - Magee is now up at light heavy so you knever know.

Froch takes way too many shots and I have heard that Dodon looks in great shape - lets hope he beats Froch.

i see the fight potentially going the same way as two of frochs previous fights...

1. froch does a damon hague on tony dodson and destroys him very quickly and proves there is a massive gap between decent domestic class and froch class.

2. froch gets caught and stunned a few times early and rallies the storm to take dodson out down the stretch. just like the dale westerman fight.
to match the fitness of froch, dodson will have to be very very fit.

but terrence, the point im making is that there is some 'previous' here involving spud/ben and tony dodson. lots of previous on a different forum. the offensive posts have been mysteriously deleted now, but i read and digested them at the time.

spud knows exactly what im on about, im not a dodson-ite but im sticking up for him due to the abuse he received on box talk.

No offence intended to either of you mate. I was being a bit jokey. The Scarlett Spudernell must only have the one screen identity.

holyfields_ear wrote:This thread really went downhill quick. Its a shame Spud and Ben Carey had to insult and criticise Dodson on such a personal level in order to promote Carl Froch. But then again thats agendas for you i guess.....

I think this fight is too early for Dodson. Realistically he should be still in his comeback. He will know this himself. Instead he is taking on a world class fighter in Froch. He will have doubts himself. But he has such heart that he ignores such doubts and takes the fight anyway. If Tony would have waited till Froch vacated he would have won back the belt with no problem at all. But he never. So to hell with questions about heart or balls. Tony is stepping in the ring ffs what more can you ask for? There is nothing wrong with wanting to wait until you are in top class condition before facing a Carl Froch is there? I know i certainly wouldn't face him unless i was 110%. Maybe Ben Carey would?

Both fighters are confident. Both like to say a few words. But deep down they have respect for one another. Somebody will get stopped i guarantee that. Froch is on a crest of a wave at the moment. Dodson will be looking at Froch and thinking that should be him. However I think Froch's best is better than Tony's. Whether Froch performs to his best is another thing altogether. Head says Froch, heart would like Dodson.
Holyfield & Stu

As I've already said, I can understand Dodson's reasoning for pulling out of the first two fights due to injury, but I think you've both given him an easy ride for pulling out for a third time, when he wasn't injured, just because he didn't consider he had enough time to prepare and his purse wasn't big enough. Having shouted the odds I would have thought he would have jumped at the chance to take the fight.

Unless Dodson's Mystic Meg he couldn't have forseen that he would be offered an incredible fourth chance to fight Froch - something which owes more to Froch wanted to secure the Lonsdale while he waits to land a crack at the European.

I've explained the keyboard comments and why I think Froch will win, inbetween that I've stated that Dodson will perform creditably and push Froch all the way - hardly disrespectful. May the best win.

Terrence - the site's mine. Yes, it sets up like a blog but I'm limited by the publishing package without spending financial outlay - something which seems crazy when boxing websites traditionally don't make money. Its only been up and running since October and the idea is it will graduate into a fully fledged british site in its own right in time. I'm just trying to focus on the content rather than the design. If the contents good people will read it. Thanks.

Silkov - With respect, for a guy with 7,000+ posts I expected you to be setting an example, not resorting to unnecessary handbags. I think Stu is right, you're animosity was OTT and you, and some of the rest, should let bygones be bygones.

See you next week. Enjoy the fight. It should be an absolute cracker.

Is it true Tony beat Enzo Maccarinelli in the amateurs?

Someone on Eastside posted this.
“I was picked at 16 for the under-19 squad, which was an achievement in itself. I won 4 schoolboy titles, beating Enzo Maccarinelli (current WBO Cruiserweight champion) on the way to one of them. Won the Junior A.B.A’s twice and won the Junior Olympics in North Michigan in 1996. In 1995 I was in the same England team as Nicky Cook, Ricky Hatton and David Barnes that beat Russia on their soil – first English team to do that. I knocked out about 18 of my 38 opponents as an Amateur – I’ve always been able to hit!”

Silkov,

The guy is a plank. Ben Carey invited me to their forum to contribute which I did and always on topic. The Spud has one of his many retiring from moderating speeches and bans me!

It is true I asked once did he know who Colin Power was and instead of saying "No I don't know" he banned me instead  (this was during ESB)

What annoys me is that you could see he was trying to get his name into boxing when he would write his weekly letter to boxing news always using his 'spud' moniker!

Hopefully Stu or whoever does the banning around here can rid this forum of the potato man. He knows nothing and contributes nothing. Are we going to get another retirement speech off him!

As for the fight, I think Froch being the man on form will win, I can't say I have a vested interest in either fighter but I know Dodson will go down fighting. Good luck to both fighters and Spud... get lost!

In 2006 these 2 fighters are a class apart IMO. Unless I've got it all totally wrong (again) there isn't a cat in hells chance that Froch will be dominated or knocked out. I expect to see Froch walk through the whacks in his usual style, wearing Dodson down to score a convincing stoppage.

For what it's worth good luck Tony Dodson, I don't envy you one bit.

Froch is the favourite and you'd think that he should win but he takes so many liberties defencewise that I think Dodson has a chance, he needs to have a good start and be aggressive, ...I've nothing against Froch personally but think he fights in the wrong style and that this will find him out eventually... maybe not tonight but if Dodson can really give it a go and fight like he has nothing to lose then I think he may surprise a lot of people... :box: :box: :box:

Hello,

I haven't read that you said Tony wasn't injured for the third pull out. Appologies if you have, but I haven't read it. Now you say this "revelation" (cause I assumed it was three injuries) then your argument hold more credance.

HOWEVER (and its a big However). In 2 hours time, Tony is fighting Froch. Whether he is Mystic Meg or not, Tony is fighting him. Surely he must get some credit for this... perhaps he geniunally wasn't ready, cause obviously he has the bottle to take him on.

Mike Tyson kept saying "two more fights" when he was WBC #1 contender for Lewis. After many commentators losing patience people were starting to question Tyson's bottle. Jim Watt said "He said two fights, five fights back and is still saying it now.... when will he be ready".

I thought the same, but eventually Tyson plucked up the coverage and fought Lewis. Therefore, I don't think it was Bottle reason why he didn't take on Lewis after his original "two fight" promise. Same with Dodson... the fact he is now fighting Froch should show that his reasoning for not fighting Froch the 3rd time was legitimate.

Dodson could have waited a little long, defended his English title and waited for Froch to fight for the EBU/World title before fighting an easier foe for the British title. Its not like he has no options. He is in the top 2 British title eligable fighters (i'm calling Joe and Robin Reid beyond the level).... and this would remain win, lose or draw vs Froch. Dodson vs Barney or Catley for the vacant title would have some appeal and tough to predict.

I am all for boxers making sure they are right before the fight... I don't like hearing excuses after.

Dodson can win - if lesser punchers can hit Froch then Dodson may 'just' be able to do it often enough to stop Froch!
