Fair point about Contender and the life story nonsense, but Manfredo is a name through that show and HBO know he'll bring ratings even if the audience don't know a left hook from a fish hook.

Don't get me wrong,to me that is great money,and I would say it's even more than 75-25 in Joe's favour..more like 90-10!!!

But,I would say that is'nt great money for Calzaghe.I bet it is'nt much more than he earns for his regular Bika type opponent.

Did'nt Kessler's handlers offer him 3 million(might be euros,not sure) to come to Denmark and fight their man?

Yes, from a business point of view it's genius, no doubt about it. Lots of people who don't follow boxing will probably buy this PPV in the states, Calzaghe gets fantastic exposure, and if he manages to do a number on Manfredo, there will be a big wow factor from the viewers who know shit all about boxing who think Manfredo is a great fighter because of the contender.

Wouldn't be surprised if this PPV did some serious numbers.

Didn't he beat Manfredo - twice? Now he appears to be out in the wilderness somewhere, and Manfredo is fighting Calzaghe on a big PPV.

If that was the case I bet that Joe was gutted to find out that he'd be fighting in Wales again.

But it is a legit point.

And it should be hopefully Taylor in a summer super fight. I remain unconvinced that one will be delivered, and Taylor's next fight is by no means a walkover.

Taylor in the summer?
Same as the mega fight we were promised in march 07.....or the big mega homecoming we were promised after Lacy.....the career defining date for Joe which ended up being Bika?

I would love to see Calzaghe/Taylor,but I would bet more money on England winning the ashes in cricket followed by the rugby team sweeping the 6 nations AND world cup next summer happening than Joe v Jermain!!!!

Well they came though with the promised Lacy fight 6 months ago, so why not Taylor? Taylor wants it, as he's leaving middle at the end of 06 and it's THE big bucks fight at SM.
Joe wants it for the money & prestige, and no doubt sees it as a fight he'll win.

And HBO wants it because it'll be a huge fight.

I reckon those three factors add up to an excellent chance this fight gets made in 07.

Barring upsets that is.

Hey,I would love to see it happen,but look at the above posts.Lacy fight was promised,and made,so thats 1 out of 4.

To be fair to Taylor,he seems like an old school type of fighter in his approach to the game(fight anyone)so it is possible it will happen.(I was a bit dramatic with the England cricket.rugby team comparisons!)

Just wondering though,at what point will Calzaghes fans give up on him?
If Taylor or Kessler is'nt delivered in the summer,and we are treated to another dodgy opponent,will(can)any Calzaghe fan be able to defend that?

Yes, I think this is one fight that will happen, provided they can come to aggreable terms over money.

Calzaghe will really fancy his chances against Taylor, lots of money, lots of hype, plenty of ego food for Calzaghe with this fight.

Funny thing is, on fight night, I think Joe will probably be outweighed by some margin. I was looking at some pictures of Taylor between fights the other day, and he's built like a bloody heavyweight, huge neck, shoulders and back.

I have to say, if they fight, I fancy an upset, if you could call it that, and Taylor winning. I think he's got the right style to give Calzaghe hell, big right hand puncher, excellent jab, and very strong and well balanced fighter. I think he will hit a lot harder at 168, and he hits pretty hard as it is.

So the Manfredo fight is all sealed. All going well a "mega fight" with Taylor will happen (perhaps on US soil) in the Summer as a result.

We all know why it is (and I'm just going to basically repeat most others' argument here) HBO=money=opponent must be American.

Ok, fine. But why now? It's not like the US is suddenly interested because Joe fought Bika. Of course it's the Lacy fight. Why bother fighting Bika then? Why didn't he fight Stieglitz last month? That way, he has both belts and a clear road going into '07. We can all say the belts mean "nothing," but at the saem time, I grimmace at the thought of there being a new SM titlist. For what it's worth too, it would make a Kessler fight even less possible I'd reckon.

Alternatively, why did they not agree to fight Stieglitz early next year (like when this Manfredo fight is due?) THEN do your stuff in the USA. I just can't stand (imo) this easiest route to the gravy train station. He beats Manfredo, Taylor perhaps in the US, and this is it. New National holiday. How about fighting more than twice a year, fulfilling mandatories, and fighting the best in your division in order to achieve seom sort of legacy Joe?

Stieglitz was offered the October date but complained there was no German Tv dates when they would of showed him fighting Calzaghe most likely.

I'd have preferred it if Joe had kept his belt so if he did fight Kessler, he have more to put on the line against.

Plus if Stieglitz wins the vacant title Kessler's people will go for the paper champ instead of Calzaghe.

You're mixing things up -- team Palle is not FWarren. Team Calzaghe is the one that has shown less than enthusiasm for a Kessler-Calzaghe matchup thus far.
