Featherweights: Marco Antonio Barrera vs Danny Lopez

Post by elmersalsa »

This would have been a terrific match between 2 Hall of Fame warriors. Who wins this one? Both are also terrific punchers. I pick Barrera by decision in a great war.

Barrera beats guys who are "better" than him because he is "smarter" than they are. Barrera is a great combination of chess master and blood and guts fighter. I'd go with MAB but Lopez could get that shot through and the bell could always toll for MAB as well as anyone when you face a puncher like Lopez.

If Barrera uses his excellent often underrated boxing skills he wins by decision. In the other hand if he tries to go toe to toe he loses by KO.

Barrera has a tendency to go a little wild when he hurts an opponent and Danny Lopez was at his most dangerous when he was hurt. I could see Barrera out-boxing Lopez for a couple of rounds and then knocks Lopez down with a hard hook, but after Lopez rises Barrera goes in a little wild and Lopez nails him with one, hard-straight right hand and the fight is over!

I can see Barrera getting the better start and probably hurting Lopez early, but Danny would get better as the fight goes on and would win in about 10 or 12 rounds....

I agree with the two posts above. Barrera probably has better skills, but Lopez would lure him into a slugfest. I can see both what Barry and Silkov posted happening. Barrera wins a couple of rounds, hurts Lopez or drops him, Lopez gets up furious, and well ultimately stops Barrera with a hard right hand. Lopez in his prime was a devastating puncher.

Absolutely one of the most exciting fighters to ever step in the ring...I honestly don't think he ever had a dull fight!

I just love his fight with Bobby Chacon, probably one of Chacons best performances... also Dannys fight with Mike Ayala has to be right up there with the best fights of all time, certainly one of the best fights I've seen...

I often bring this up when Danny's name comes up....did anyone here see either of his fights with Octavio Gomez? Or has anyone seen any of Octavios' other fights?
