As I stated earlier, I can see your point due to the exposure that Young got from the Ali fight, but I’m pretty comfortable with my assessment that Cossell was not particularly knowledgeable.Sweet Scientist wrote:Cosell may not have been as knowledgable as a Nat Fleischer, but he certainly was knowledgable, he covered quite a few fights on both radio & TV in '50's through '80's...he turned a lot of people off, but that doesn't mean he wasn't 'knowledgable'...and when he refered to Young as "unheralded", Young's record was something like 12-4...so I don't think it was an out of line, 'unknowledgable' statement at that time...AND...the second Young-Lyle fight was after the Ali fight...so both boxing people, and the casual observer, knew who Jimmy Young was by then...
One big win

They showed the highlight of that fight on CBS. Did not air it live. Actually it happened soon after Rossman lost his title in a rematch with Galindez. Ranquello was the Chuck Wepner of the light heaveyweight division if that good. Couldn't figure out what went wrong with Rossman in that fight. Ranquello had that long looping overhand right where all you would have had to do was to step out of the way. Ranquello also left himself wide open and could be easily hit with even an average jab. Definatly Ranquellos one big win and a dismal defeat for Rossman.
