The guy hits like a mule.

16 KO's in 18 fights. The only two to survive the distance are the strong chinned Lolenga Mock (Only stoppage was vs arguably the hardest hitting CRUISERWEIGHT in the world) and Andre Thysse - two stoppage losses both were he took a sustained beating all the way through.

The guy has beaten some decent fighters and looks the bomb so far. Danny Green (IMO) was 1) Weight drained and 2) Fading.

Bute vs Tatesvyan will be very interesting, if he can handle a slick boxer like Tatesvyan then I think we could have a long reigning successor to Calzaghe. I think if Bute does a job in his next fight, I would tip him to beat Kessler.

Right now Mundine and Bute would imo. be an even fight. In a year I think Bute wins and he also beats Calzaghe. Kessler and Bute will be fighting for supremacy.

regarding Tatseosyan. He is not at all a slick fighter. He would loose to Markussen 8 out of 10 fights - Bute should beat him rather easy and I consider Mock better than Tatsyvan.

I haven't seen enough of Bute yet to talk about him in these terms. He looks great, but his opposition hasn't been terribly impressive. I agree, let's look at the Tatevosyan fight first.

As for revising Lacy's standing based on what he's doing AFTER being utterly outclassed by Calzaghe... only something Kessler buthuggers would bother doing. The same people who were trying to paint (the ancient and/or past it) Beyer, Lucas and Siaca as 'top quality'.
I agree, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think both Lacy and Kessler's best opponents have suffered a little from overhyping before the event (especially Lucas and Siaca for Kessler).

Subsequent performances by Siaca has shown he is a overated/faded fighter. Likewise, Lucas look faded and Beyer has been a defeat waiting to happen for a while.

At the same time though, Lacy beat no-one of note pre Calzaghe to show us that he was the new "Mike Tyson" (as he was once hyped) or the new "Hagler". He looked good beating fringe contenders (which sadly Robin Reid is now) but indeed everytime he fought a live fighter (like Vanderpool, Sheika) he did struggle.

Yes, Calzaghe beat what was infront of him and beat him up well.... and most people thought Lacy was top quality and a world champion. Same with Kessler though, Siaca was a world champion and looked okay beating Mundine.... at the time he was considered "top quality" but then subsequently was later exposed as being shot. Lucas looked okay in his fight with Beyer and after it, but obviously his poor opposition post Beyer flattered him.

Bit like the DLH vs Julio Cesar Chavez scenerio. Chavez was the champion, but obviously post DLH just showed quite how finished he was.
You overlook though that Kessler beat Mundine in Australia most convincing fashion, and Mundine is not faded. In contrast, his star is rising - and rising - and rising. In my eyes clearly the #3 super middleweight. There are three super-middlweight that are a bit special: Kessler, Calzaghe, Mundine.
Mundine is talked up way too much. Mundine's reputation seems to be built on losing to Kessler and beating a much faded (and not that great to begin with) Danny Green. Mundine's loss to Siaca just about defines how good he is.
Calzaghe and Kessler are a class above. Mundine has shown he hasn't got what it takes when push comes to shove. At this point I'd rate Inkin above Mundine and Andrade and Bute just below him. Mundine special? Not unless you want to talk up Kessler.

I don't agree with that. I think this fight does not affect Calzaghe's reputation one bit. Alot of people probably regard him as being ruined by Calzaghe anyway.

If he was injured then you can't give him too much flak though.
True, that'd be like saying Trinidad was overrated because David Reid was never the same again, after their fight.

I never really rated Lacy too highly, always looked a bit of a manufactured fighter, and I thought Tsypko had a good chance first time they met.

But I think the JC fight must've damaged him some - a 12 round beating like that is gonna have some sort of bad effect. And seeing Tsypko ( not a big puncher - see Magee fight ) wobble him like that makes you wonder - Lacy always had the reputation of a good chin.

This is exactly when I got aware of Mundine's extraordinary talent.

Before the Ottke fight I thought "dumb bigmouth rugbyplayer, who does he think he is that he can take over boxing in his mid 20s. Ottke will school him". Thereafter: "a bit more experience and the guy will be a huge threat to anyone".

watch the vanderpool fight when he won the title.

he was excellent in that fight and didn't get discouraged when he couldn't blast the guy out.

he looked rubbish the other night. none of that old snap and stamina he had before the JC fight.

Pfft...

I hope there are some red ears now.. and if there isn't they will only get red'er when Lacy actually enters the ring with a real top 20 (Tsypko was about 20-25 or so). Lacy was the most hyped fighter before the Calzaghe fight and unfortunately some Calzaghe fans tried to hold up the charades after the fight... we all know that is a dead end.
Stop making shit up. I said AFTER the Calzaghe fight that Joe would have laid the groundwork for Kessler. Anyone that fights Lacy after the absolute beating he took from Calzaghe is obviously going to have an easier time than the pre Lacy/Calzaghe

I did say however that Mundine would get beat and possibly KTFO by Lacy should they fight and nothing that happened the other night changed my opinion, as it's clear that Lacy's left shoulder went in the 2nd or 3rd round, as he stopped throwing his left hook/uppercut.

The problem is he looked like this also before he fought Calzaghe, e.g. against Sheika or Vanderpool (until Vanderpool ran out of gas)

I think I will agree to disagree with that. Tatseosvyan looked pretty slick boxer in giving Howard Eastman alot of trouble (some thought he beat Howard). I also thought he looked like he would beat Markussen (who seems to be disinterested with the sport) more times than he would lose, judging by his performance over him. He's also beaten the current EBU champion.

What I meant was, he is a back foot counter puncher with a style that Bute hasn't met before. He is not a plodder in the Thysse and Mock mold, he loves it when a fighter comes to him.

Mundine can also show good back foot skills when he wants too, so it will be an interesting comparison if Mundine and Bute ever get it on. My feeling is that Bute will pass this test, and also beat Mundine. Style wise, Tatseovyan can be awkard (ask Howard Eastman), its styles that make fights and I think Bute could have more difficulties here than against some of the more established top tenners, like Mundine and Lacy.

Markussen was ahead on the scorecards and would have beaten Tsesyvan 8 out of 10 - IF he was in his normal mental state. In the state he was in that night he probably loses to 90 out of the top 100 SMW. He quit eventhough he wasn't even badly hurt. He said to his trainer in the ring "I don't want to be in here". He was basically a broken fighter before he entered the ring due to some personal problems - Palle knew that but still forced him to fight. So Markussen repaid him - although Markussen was the one that lost the most doing this demonstration.

Oh, and you cannot compare Tatseovyan with Mundine at all. Mundine is the fastest SMW and Tatseovysan is below average in speed. Tatseovysan has a good punch and is a rather tough fighter, but should in no way be compared to Mundine.

Anyway - if I was Bute's trainer I would also have gotten my hands on Tatsevysan asap. It will be a rather easy win for Bute, but he will get some good points for the rankings. And it really doesn't matter how Bute gets his points because imo. he is destined to play in the top 3 no matter who he faces on the way there. Imo. Bute v Calzaghe would be a 50/50 fight at this point in time most likely. Perhaps a little edge to Joe because of experience, but not for long.

Imo one ought to wait until Bute has fought at least one top 10 opponent before making such statements. Wins over Salem and Thysse are nice, but this is as far the Bute story goes thus far.

Disagree. He had his growing pains vs Vanderpool and while he failed to impress vs Sheika, he was certainly in better form there than against Tsypko.

So you found some rating where he was no. 6. That doesn't make him the 6th best SMW in the world, you realize that right. Berrio is for instance no.2 or 3 on IBF's rankings.. does that make hinm a top 15? No way!

On any real ranking tsypko is not in top 15.
I thought he wasnt top twenty five? now he isnt top fifteen? did he jump ten places in the rankings that are formulated in your head!! Im afraid your wrong now so calm down and try to name 24 better than him.. you will be struggling after five or six that is of course you can pull yourself out of kesslers arse and give an objective opinion.

That's it...as a representative of the boxing enthusiasts of the American wing of Boxrec I demand you to cease and desist any and all Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy bashing. His last two opponents have taken care of that in grand fashion. Any further activity of this kind will be considered a hate crime and a warrant will be issued for your arrest in the land of the free.

Extradition papers will then be filed and you will get to see some good old Alabama justice.

So just keep it up my continental friends....just keep it up.

Lacy out 9-12 months!
Former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy will be out of action for 9-12 months, reports the St. Pete Times. Lacy suffered a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder during his bout in Tampa Saturday night against Vitali Tsypko and is expected to have surgery in the next few days.

When you think about it though, he did pretty well against Tsypko for a guy with only his right hand, let alone without his trademark punch.

No doubt the extra lay off will do more harm but he'd be a fool to retire. Infact Lamon Brewster is all set to comeback now.

Left hook isn't even his best punch, the overhand right is, but yes, for a guy who could barely lift his lead arm, he did well. It no doubt got worse as the fight wore on, but win lose or draw, Lacy is showing he's got a huge fvcking heart in there.
