What a right-hand landed by Shavers. I remember Larry once saying of the punch:
"I thought someone was taking a picture a ringside. My eyes closed as soon as he hit me, and then I woke up when I hit the canvas. I do not remember falling."
IMO, Larry had the best recouperative powers of any HW in history. That was some right hand he took from Shavers & then to go on and win the fight!
Not many HW's in history would have got up from that. You could probably count the one's who would have on one hand!
Holmes-Shavers: Round 7.

Agree Larry had a great chin and recouperative powers right up there with the best of them. Ali's was great too, the way he got up from the hook from Frazier after all those hard rounds was scary. Patterson also had great recouperative powers but not such a great chin.

I've mentioned this before. One of Shavers great failings was that he'd get a guy down and then he'd get all wild and desperate, like he had to land another blow equivalent to that which did the original damage.
Watch him after he gets Holmes down. There's that big wild swinging right hand that misses by so much that Earnie himself goes stumbling off balance, buying Holmes several more seconds. Holmes had great recuperative powers, but I think Earnie helped him out quite a bit. He didn't need to hit 'em with another bomb. He just needed to hit 'em period.

Earnie hit Ali with a shot that would match that IMHO...and Ali being in the same league as Holmes "went into that room" as he desribes it but somehow did not go down. They both survived solid shots from a guy who many believe was the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time.
IN Ali's case you can add Foreman, Lyle, Liston, Frazier to that list of "Heavy Punches Endured".
Not sure any else has has that kind of Chin Credentials. If your talking about recuperative powers. He never was really in trouble when he was down...though Henry Cooper would argue against that.....and if that is true it appears he learned his lesson well or vastly improved in that area.
