USA Boxing's "Coaching Olympic Style Boxing Manual" and their coaching videos are good resources. They are available on the USA Boxing website. Use the toolbar on the left and go to STORE. These will help you understand safety issues, nutrition, weight loss and other key areas for coaches. The rulebook is key for understanding all the technical rules.
Good Luck with the test and welcome to the coaching world.

Mel is correct that you don't need to study anything before the clinic. However, getting the manual and videos can be helpful to becoming a more knowledgeable coach. It is also a great idea to periodically read through the Rulebook. Many coaches and officials do not stay current on the rules. I've been told to re-wrap boxers hands after the rule was changed allowing 3 feet of tape. The person checking the handwraps was unaware of the rule being changed a few months prior to the show. So go ahead and learn way more than you need to for the Level I clinic and you will just become a better coach.

Just buy the official giving the class some coffee, you'll be ok.druw33 wrote:can anyone give me any info besided the 2006 rules/regulations handbook to study for the exam?

However, I was trained by Richard Lord in 89-90 when I was going Pro, after my Golden Gloves title - Are you in Austin Ramos?

I have a new boxer that was been working out for 2 years and he is just turning 8 years old - do you have any new boxers in the 8 year old subjunior division that would match up with my boxer?
Thx

Yes, I have a young kid named Matt. He's 8 or going to be 9, don't remember. He weighs around 60-65 pounds. HOw much does your kid weigh? Are you going up to Corpus next week or the week after?

Re: clinic
Aaron is just turned 8 on the 2nd of December, he weighs 65 lbs and according to Mr. Olivio, he has to wait 30 days b 4 he can box - why is that anyway.
How many matches does your boxer have? Is he going to complete in Corpus? We can drive down there to watch you guys, if I don;'t have to work that weekend. When is it? or where can I get more details?
Thx

Re: clinic
You can look at the schedule of upcoming events on my website, ramosboxing.com.
We won't be going to corpus this week but we will on the following weekend. I'm taking some kids to the State Silver Gloves, I'm actually leaving today. It's a 4 day event.
Matt doesn't have any bouts just yet.
The 30 day waiting period is to protect the boxer. Back in the day some coaches would register their boxers a day before competition and fight them although they'd only be in the gym for a few days. This 30 day period gives everyone the peace of mind that the boxer has been in the gym for at least 30 days.
Im assuming your boxer is not registered yet, is he? If Mr. Olivio allowed you to register him you probably only paid 1/2 of the 35 dollar fee, which expires in a few weeks. You'll have to register again in late Dec. or early Jan. for 2007.
