Hello There!
I know this maybe better suited to the amateur section but I think I would get more feedback here so I hope whoever the mods are that they don't mind.
Anyway, I want to box and I would like to know what the ins and outs are concerning the medical. What proof do you need to take with you? is it just your NHS medical card or do you need to bring along birth certificate? passport?
Also though I'm not blind, I'm short sighted, are the doctors lenient regarding this? I can see someone hitting me!
Is it your own doctor or a ABA specified doctor?
Anything else regarding an ABA medical would be much appreicated!
Thanks in advance!
ABA medical
What happend with my old club is that they had an doctor who dealt with the medical (not my own GP). Very leanient he was. Just basically checked you were not obesse, your breathing/heart beat and did the old "cough" proceedure.
He did check to see if the eyes looked healthy, but didn't test them as far as their function. Duke McKenzie was always wearing glasses when fighting (obviously not in the ring). So I would assume he didn't have 20:20 vision when he was a professional.
To be honest I cannot remember did I need to bring a birth certificate/or passport.
Seriously, it your club your with that you should ask. The club I was with treated it as their responsibility to get our medicals sorted with their doctor. Your club might be different, but they would know the criteria.
If you are worried, then buy him a bottle of whisky or something! Seem to work, cause I haven't known anyone to have failed a medical (and I've seen some who had severe asmatha). I know the Dr that was signing our licence was partial to the odd hot totty.
This was all with the WABA, I'm not sure if there is a different medical procedure with the ABA's and if it has changed at all over the years.
