2 Jim Henrys

Post by thismodernlove »

ok if u look in boxrec and search for a Canadian fighter named Jim Henry, there are 2 of teh same who are the same weight and fought during the same time period, not to mention both were Canadian.

obviously it is the same boxer.

so BoxRec should combine the two records together.

just trying to help out cuz i know its the same guy... trhere is not two Jim Henry's fighting at the same weight and the same country at the same time. thats impossible.

one Jim Henry, who fought from 1972-1981, has a record of 17-38-5
the other Jim Henry who foguht from 1977-1978 has a record of 0-2

sincet hey are the same weight and from the same country (canada)

obviously its the same person... so it should be Jim Henry 17-40-5

Hey, it's funny that you should mention this guy. As a "records geek", I've always had an odd facination regarding this individual myself. I'd love to hear something from someone that actually got to see him fight. Just to get their impressions of him.
I might be way off, but judging by his record, I've always pictured him as an elusive, survivor-type of journeyman/opponent. A Reggie Strickland sort.
You know, "on" some nights & good for the long haul & "off" on others ...
I mean, he get's stopped in 8 by young light welter in Wilfred Benitez, then belted out in 3 by welterweight contender Clyde Grey. THEN, the following year he takes a prime Marvin Hagler the full 10 rounds! Then month after that, he drops another 10 round nod to a LIGHTWEIGHT in Gaeton Hart.
Maybe it's just me, but I find stuff like that intriguing as hell. Always have.
Hell, 9 out of 10 times, I find the records & careers of journeymen/opponent-types much more interesting than those of your champions & contenders.

i have never seen him fight but i swear to you i knew this man when i used to live in an area of Montreal called Pointe St Charles, my parents just spilt up in 1996, i was about 8 or 9 or something, and i moved to Montreal with my brother to live with my grandfather. my grandfather was always boxing and i guess from his years he somehow met and befriended Jim Henry. Pointe St Cahrles its a low income housing district about 10 minutes from downtown. Jim Henry actually trained my older brother for an amatuer fight, which my brother won.

hes such a nice guy... hes old tho last time i saw him which wouldve been around 1999. to be honest i havent seen/talked to him since sometimes i wonder if hes still alive because i remember he was in pretty bad health when i left Montreal which was in 1999.

he divorced as well from his wife... and he worked selling clothes at flea markets he is a very remarkable man, he used to send all the omeny he earned to his daughters to help them out.

like i said he is a very nice man and a remarkable person.

and its weird... cuz he never talked about his fighting days... but in his house (which was sad because he was pretty poor and he lived in a shrubby little house on Charlevoix Street in Montreal) he had pictures of when he used to fight.

:box:

hope u l earn something from what i wrote, but like i said i can only tell u about him as a person because i never saw him fight i just met him through my Grandfather who was a friend of his...

ull never meet a nicer person than Jim... i wonder if hes still alive today and sometimes i go to montreal just to visit and stuff so next time i will go try and see him

Hey, thanks for the info.

Yeah, unfortunately, that's one of the big drawbacks to the journeyman/opponent lifestyle. While it may make for some awfully interesting careers for fellows like you & I to follow & admire, at the end of the day, the fighters aren't left with much but their memories & maybe a few oldpress clippings ... You know?
