Danny Williams - Spencer Fearon

Post by Daveyswan »

I read this morning ( i think the metro) Danny will be without Jim McDonnell and has been training in a local amature gym working with his mate Spencer Fearon who has recently got his trainers liscence. Fearon will be in his corner on Saturday.

Once again, you have to wonder just how much work Danny has actually been doing. Mind you, he was training himself for the first Harrison fight and still won it.

I've lost count of Williams trainers. Jimmy Tibbs for his first 15, that rasta dude for the first Francis fight, McDonnell for a while, that US fella after McDonnell threw in the towel on his v Samil Sam, McDonnell back, trained himself for Harrison, now Fearons in.

Were ANY of them that good? And WHAT trainer could really help Danny Williams anyway? Danny has developed into a fat brawler, i ahven't seen him box skillfully since probably 2001 when he used to use his jab, move nice and weigh 17 & a half stone.

Unless Fearon has the knack of getting inside of Danny's head and sorting him out, I can't see what difference he'll make.

I know both of them well, and I actually think Spencer's the man for job, in as much as he's able to get into Danny's head and communicate with him. Spencer and Danny have been best friends since childhood, and having trained with Spence, i can testify that he knows his boxing. He's also training Anthony Small now as well.

I remember watching a documentry many years ago, about Danny and the built up to his fight with Francis and his mate who was also a boxer, thinking now that would have been Spencer.

Spencer Fearon's fight with David Walker on BBC was a belter. Didn't Fearon do standup comedy as a sideline?
