Pan Am Games
I am being told its July 2007 in Brazil. Anyone know when and where the qualifying tournament is.....I am hearing Venezuela?
Also how is USA boxing determining the top 4 for the box off? Quarterly rankings or US championships?
Are there cash prizes for medals?
It would be so much easier if these things were given to us coaches, as I am sure there are many of us who are confused!

Confusion in amateur boxing? I can't imagine why. Maybe we will hear something soon about how this will all work.
I just received an e-mail from Jeff Steffens and he said that the Box-Offs are by Invite Only and the invites will be to sent to the top 4 finishers from the 2006 US Championships. Obviously there are a few spots open throughout the various weight classes due to boxers not being available for a host of reasons. He didn't say how those spots will be filled. I've heard that the next spot may go to the 2006 Nat'l PAL champ and then down the line from there. I hope this helps.

There will be three qualifying tournaments for the Pan Ams. Venezuela, Mexico and Argentina will host the tournaments. I believe they will be held in february, march and april/may. All countries except Brazil (host nation) must qualify, even Cuba. I believe it will be the country, not the boxer who will gain the spot (not sure though).

You have to love the use of TBA everywhere. Some boxers and coaches actually have to plan ahead to be able to attend various tournaments. It sure would be nice to know when the Olympic trials qualifiers are going to be held and where. We know when the National GG are going to be held, but anything organized or sponsored by USA Boxing has that infamous term "TBA". I guess all of us should just plan on keeping our entire calendars open for the months of April, May and June!!! Then if you have a boxer who qualifies your calendar for the month of August had better be wide open as well. I hope these dates and locations get set soon.
Ahhhh, Dennis - TBA means they haven't found anyone who will "bid" (or pay) for the national events. As you know, the regionals are taken care of the LBCs who make up the regions. Colorado Springs is not always available due to all the other sports headquartered and training there. I do agree that "TBA" is very frustrating - especially as an opponent for a pro fighter! LOL! Wonder when USAB will get around to announcing who is participating in the Pan Am Box-offs - before January 15th, I hope.
You think they will give them that much advance notice! TBA can be just as frustrating as an opponent for an experienced amateur boxer! For the US Championships the calendar from USA Boxing's website says
"FIRST TWO WEEKS OF JUNE." Does that mean it is going to be one of those two weeks, or is it a TWO WEEK LONG tournament????? I thought it was only a one week long tournament...Does anyone know for sure or how did they do it in the past???

It is almost the same as "TBA". The tournament has never been two weeks long. It is always just one week long (actually it is either 5 or 6 days long). The two week window was to give A2P and USA Boxing the flexibility in locating a site. Now with A2P out, USA Boxing will decide on the dates and locations. Don't be surprised if it changes and isn't held during the first two weeks of June.inc969806 wrote:For the US Championships the calendar from USA Boxing's website says

Any more info on the Pan Am Games box-offs. I understand the matchups are set, but it hasn't been made public, i.e. published on the USA Boxing website. If anyone has the complete list of match-ups and would like to share it, please post it here on this site.
I also understand that it is being conducted in Colorado Springs, but that too hasn't been announced on the USA Boxing website. Has everyone in Colorado Springs gone home for the holidays? There is internet access from home!!!!

Pan am
There was a message sent via-email last week directley from Mr. Steffen/USA Boxing stating letters should be recieved this week.(Whoever was chosen for box off's)
I have seen there is alot of talk about Sammy fighting at 112. In Oct he fought at 119/Pals, and Nov. Gene Lewis AZ at 125. I don't he can make 112.
I thought the 106 Jr. divison should have been won by Daniel Lozano.

Re: Pan am
Sammy boxed at 114 in the World Cadet tourney in August. My comments for Sammy hold true even at 119 or 125. He will continue to grow and gain some weight I'm sure.Southern-Cali wrote:There was a message sent via-email last week directley from Mr. Steffen/USA Boxing stating letters should be recieved this week.(Whoever was chosen for box off's)
