Yes I think this should be a cracker. I'm undecided with this I look at Thaxton and think he looks massive for a lightweight and is a great fighter, but can he make the weight ok...... I know Meager makes the weight fine.

Mmm - I don't know perhaps Thaxton...

Its got barnstormer written all over it hasn't it?

Will Thaxton's late career cuteness but sufficient or will Meager have to much in his fists for him?

I fancy the salford lad, based on his fantastic come from behind showing last time out.

Whoever wins, its a cant miss cracker! :TU:

I'm still fence sitting on this one.

Meager's relaxed skills and determination to win through?

or

Thaxton's power at this weight and hunger?

This could easily turn out to be a contender for fight of the year. :box: I'm really looking forward to it as well.

Real top quailty 50/50 domestic clash. :box:

I lean towards Thaxton, but only just.

i've seen very little of both fighters.....but i can remember vivdly thaxton against a prime eamonn magee. Magee hit too hard for thaxton at that point but with all due respect I dont think meager is in a prime magee's league. Also can meager box much? because from what ive seen of him he seems a more come forward sort. I f this is the case I cant see him outslugging thaxton.

Yeah, I didn't want to make a pick either. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy.

Really can't decide who to pick as the winner here.
Meager is improving and stepped up his performance in winning the title, Thaxton is so hungry to be called British Champion, and he can punch and take out any boxer at this level.

You can see Thaxton winning early, Meager Stopping Thaxton late.
Or Meager being too busy and overcoming a few scares to win on points.
Or Thaxton Dropping Meager early, then outboxing Meager.

Ok I've no idea now

Good fight although it was mostly one way traffic.

Meager's defence was solid in first 2 rounds but still he lost the rounds as Thaxton kept landing good combinations. Lee just couldn't adjust to Thaxton's style but somehow managed to last the distance but it was man against boy in there (even though there's only a 4 year gap)

By a mile on the cards, knocking Meager down in the 12th to put some icing on the cake. Still, it was an entertaining fight, even with Thaxton winning by so many rounds.

Cracking performance, I was getting worried at the time the it took to announce the winner - thankfully justice was served with scorecards worthy of the fight.

Fantastic from Thaxton, really has been a fairy tale story this. He suffered horrendous injuries that not just career threatening, but looked career ending. I don't think I will be wrong in stating that even many in his Sheffield camp thought he would never step into the ring again.

In the early days when I was doing the rankings for BBN... I got a few emails from people representing Thaxton asking why I hadn't considered him in the top ten after he won his WBF title. I basically said he was in my top 15, but I didn't think his opponents were worthy of cracking the top ten.... and that Jon needed to prove he was back.

My word I am so glad he shown that he was back. I am going to be doing the rankings after Saturday's action, Thaxton will rise again. I don't think I will have him at #1.... but I think he would beat Earl.

That fight has got to happen.

Well done, Jono.... delighted.

A very good win for Thaxton despite the score which had Thaxton winning most rounds - Meager did fight hard but showed he can only fight one way whereas Thaxton made changes - You can only say well done Jon for comming well prepared and fighting the right fight - Thaxton did nothing wrong whereas Meager with lack of defence (being a mate of Froch doesnt help) took too many hard punches - His lack of head movement was another reason for being hit far too much - Jon was a clear winner and deserves to be the champion, his hard work has paid off and God bless him, hes a great bloke as well as being a great British champ

after 7 rounds i thought Meager was going to come on strong, and Thaxton looked a little tired, but Meager just couldn't put enough punches on Thaxton to tire him right out.

Although it was a wide decision, i still wouldn't mind seeing these 2 go at it again, Meager obviously needs to work on upper body movement, but he showed a great chin and shear desire to keep trying to find a way back into the fight.

Thaxton gave a great interview after the fight, showed what it means to these boxers to win the British title. He showed that he's far from finished tonight.

Another great advert for the British Title, despite it being one-sided on the scorecards. Both guys came to fight, it was obvious that there was something on the line, unlike the ridiculous WBU/WBF baubles.

On a side note, it was a strange one to see Froch and Daws in one corner, and Witter in the other before the first bell rang, , I must say. But a really good fight.

If tomorrow nights fight betters that I will eat my hat.

Fantastic mature, controlled display from Jono. He put on a clinic.

Great work in the corner controlling that cut too - it was wide and in a bad place.

Thaxton proved his fitness and ability tonight: a deserved British Champ! :TU:

Back to the drawing board for Meager - he looked as flat as a pancake in there but maybe it was just a case of Jono being on fire?

I've just got in from my xmas works do at the comedy club in Brum and watched the Meager-Thaxton fight (about 7 double vodka and tonics, 4 double famous grouses and halfway thru a 1 skin, but it hasn't effected my judgement of the fight ) .

Last night Jon Thaxton was what is technically known as being "IN THE fornicating ZONE" he was totally focussed, he had tunnel-vision, call it what you want, but Thaxton was unbeatable. A prime Mike Tyson with a sledgehammer couldn't have beat Jon last night!!! Even the vile cut he sustained on his right eye, didn't effect his focus

LEE MEAGER IS AS HARD AS NAILS....FACT!!! its testimony to his will and desire that he saw the final bell, there isn't another lightweight in Britain that would have taken Thaxton to the scorecards last night IMO.

Prior to the fight I didn't know whether Thaxton would fade or not as the fight went on, but there was no doubting he bossed the fight from start to finish and came on strong down the straight, even though Lee was turning up the intensity, a truly excellent performance from JT!

(35 mins to write this post )

Samuels KO was a bad un

BIG UP JT!!!

Excellent fight. Isn't it great when a fight actually llives up to expectations?

I thought that Thaxton was fantastic in there last night. He just wouldn't be denied, and I don't think that I've seen a fighter want the win that badly for a long while. It wasn't as if the win was just down to desire either, the combination that put Meager down in the last was top class. A really deserving champion.

All credit to Meager too. His conditioning must have been superb, because I don't know how he took some of the shots he did early in the fight, and still be competitive throughout. Thaxton would have stopped pretty much everyone else at domestic level last night, and it's testament to Meager's heart that he still managed to keep most of the rounds fairly close.

I had £100 on Thaxton at just over evens at the beginning of the fight, going into rnd 9 Meager was still a 4/6 favourite on the in running betting :o

I was half expecting a dodgy decision, up until about rnd 10 then the betting sorted itself out.

I just could not work it out, I thought I was watching a different fight, .....all in all it worked out ok but the betting patterns were the strangest I have ever seen.
