Patrick Lopez, Venezuela
I am doing the color commentary for his next bout -- anyone ever see him as an amateur (or have a record) and have an opinion as to his style, etc?

Patrick Lopez is a flashy, explosive southpaw with great boxing skills. He has all the tools to become a great pro. I've just seen him once as a pro but he was a world class amateur. The highlight of his amateur career was at the 2003 Pan Am Games where he outclassed his opponents. In his first bout he destroyed Lamont Peterson (USA) winning 25-8 (or similar). He simply outboxed and outpunched the american. I remember betting a pizza on Lopez with a friend who thought Peterson would be too strong!
Maybe discipline can be a negative factor for Lopez. After the Panams he dissapeared for six months and at the 2004 Olympics he lost in his first bout against italian Michele Di Rocco. Lopez got a bad start and never could catch up in a close bout.
