The knockdown was not genuine. Anyone could see that.tigerpomfret wrote:Who was Khan fighting? An absolute bum with 10 fights and 3 loss's none of the wins by KO. He even got a knock down on Khan.If he were 27 and in his 25th fight I might be inclined to agree... but he's not.
And don't give me that age crap. Mike Tyson won the WBC heavyweight title at the age of 20 years and 4 months.
Amir is only 20 so has alot of time to adapt his game. He is still a work in progress. Amir doesn't have the dig, but maybe that could come with maturity. No way is he ready for world title and Warren knows this.

i loved khan as an amateur but all his faults are still there 3 years later.
he looks great on the front foot going forward with his hand speed but, oh dear he comes apart when its time to defend and retreat. leaky defence, open to right hands, thats obvious, but lefts as well are now getting through. arm punching when he should plant his feet and let his shots go to the body. sheeeeeet its all going a bit wrong.

He's an accident waiting to happen, and it is going to look all the more spectacular due to the hype he has received.
He's been wide open from his very first fight - I don't believe he can change that and when he eventually steps in with someone who can punch....well in my view it wil be curtains.
All this talk of a world title in five fights and Khan saying he has entered the ring and has been bored in there spells disaster on the part of Khan and his attitude.
It's just so sad that he is our main prospect.

Mike Tyson was to all intents and purposes a professional fighter since he was dragged off the streets at 13 yrs old. So much time was spent boxing, that he was still illiterate at the time he was world champion.tigerpomfret wrote:Who was Khan fighting? People develop at differing rates. Fenech was already a man by then (same with Tyson, who someone else mentioned), Khan still looks like, and fights like a kid. Which, I suppose, is what he still is.Ben Keilty wrote:Fenech won the world title in his 7th fight and he was younger than Khan, There's no need for a silver medalist to be babied through the pro's, He should be fighting a lot tougher fighters than he is .

but he hasn't gone pro yet.
got the style for it.
it's pretty sad the way people are clambering to get their claims in for smug 'i told you so's' when khan does get beat. whenever that may be.
im sure if khan wins a world title and doesn't lose till his 40th fight, some will be squawking about how they knew he'd be found out all along, ever since he got hit a few times by richard drilzane.
you really cant judges anything about khan thus far, in terms of how far he'll go. he's dealt with every fight comfortably, which you'd expect, and if it wasn't for the knock-down he'd of won every single round of his pro career so far. sure he's getting hit too often, but at this stage in his career, if he knows a guy cant hurt him, he's not gonna be as careful as he would against a known puncher. he'd of never have gotten involved in the brawl at the end of the tenth for example, in a fight against a guy he knew could punch hard. he's not stupid, just inexperienced.
needs to step up a level now though, that's the only way he's gonna learn. heard itv talk about earl, and if he can comfortable beat him, then we can start to judge his potential better. just hope his opponent standard goes up quicker than mitchells has done, and if you compare fight for fight at similar career stages, i think it has done.

firstly,i think the opponent was far better than what people expected and made it tough sometimes for khan.
khan to me was tired early(4-5 round) and did well to last but is still very amateurish and his last ditch of "slapping" in the 10th confirms this.
no way is he world champ material in the near future and franks reaction in the interview backs this up "im not sure if it will be next year tho".
but seriously he has been hyped too much from the start and it hasnt given him proper time and attitude to develop into the pros properly.
give him a few more fights and then decide afterall hes only had 10 fights and its not fair to compare him to other fighters from the past.
give him more opponents like this guy and maybe he will realise its time to get serious.
good luck anyway amir

I agree with you MTG. The Frenchman's record may have looked pretty awful on paper, but he was certainly game. He took all Khan had to offer in pretty good humour. He has been stopped in the 1st, but given that was on his debut, and has been to points since, maybe he is not the pushover we (myself, for a start) thought he would be.
And did throw a few decent shots (I am actually quite surprised he hasn't a stoppage to his name, but if you look at his opponents, they have, on the whole, been pretty durable. Obviously his power is not great - below average indeed - but his 0kos is maybe not a totally fair stat.
I would say though, that last night's fight has shown, as many have said before, that Khan is not a power puncher. His high stoppage rate is based on the speed and accumulation rather than a single big punch. I'd actually liken him slightly to Calzaghe in this way. He will never be renound as a big puncher, but the speed and workrate are going to win him the rounds. When he steps it up, he's going to stop less and less guys, but will still be winning most of the rounds thanks to his busy offence.
As for the defense, that obviously needs adressing by his trainer. Hands up for a start. As for the chin, I think the KD was pretty fair. And whilst Drilzane's ko record is unfalttering, it does make you wonder whether he could cope with 'proppa' punchers at world level. However, he got up straight away (well, he was barely down) and maybe it's better to have this minature kd now and defense adressed accordingly in order to prevent it happening again soon.
I didn't think stamina-wise he was too bad really. He did decrease the workrate final 4-5 rounds or so, but I think that was as much down to wondering how the fornicate he's going to stop the guy (which I don't think is right. He has to understand that totally outworking an opponent can be just as effective as stopping him.)
So overall I think last night was pretty good for Khan. He's been taken 10 rounds, and won a clear 9 against a guy who was definitely game, and also underrated (though admittedly still not of a high class.) Khan definitely has the attack to take him to the top, although his defense will need to improve.

Is Khan really a lightweight???
The guy was brought over only to pad out Khans record...there can be no denying that.
But still they worry about Khans whiskers because they make sure every opponent is a non-puncher...and usually a smaller weight fighter..who can`t punch
But fair do to the Frenchman he showed real ambition...something I`m sure surprised Warren as much as Khan.
It was a real fight lastnight..not competitive by any means, but a step in the right direction...
But it did highlight once more Khans lack of real punch...and thats his down fall to getting to the `real` world stage.
And lightweight
By the time they risk him he will be lt-welter bordering on welter

Hes only on fight 9 and just turned 20, how good was Hatton/Pacman/Witter at that stage/age. Witter couldn't punch back then, Pacman didn't resemble the fighter we know today, Hatton I'm unsure but Hattons defense was leaky too. this last fight is a learning experience.
Does anyone have punch stats on Amir? He throws an awful lot of leather. I think he'll get better stamina, learn how to pace himself, learn how to pick his shots better, tighten his defense, and start sitting on his shots more. He may or may not imrpove drastically and we don't know if hes a 'born fighter' until hes put in danger. One thing Amir has improved is his strength at the weight and he'll get stronger and stronger over the years.

Spot on. I think people need to get some sort of perspective when it comes to Amir. He's just a kid, and the talk of him fighting for world titles sooner rather than later, is just talk. He will know himself that he's not going to be ready for that step for quite some time. It's just hype to sell the product to the more casual fans. Whether or not that hype is actually counter-productive is another issue altogether.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Hes only on fight 9 and just turned 20, how good was Hatton/Pacman/Witter at that stage/age. I think we can guess that he is a 'born fighter' though. Every time he gets tagged, he fights back twice as hard. That, to me, is a good sign for the future. From that I'd assume that he won't be the type to go missing the first time he's hurt.
Hemat get stonger over the years, but he'll also get heavier! I reckon in a couple of years he'll be welter or even scraping the l/middle limit, so the he'll have no advantage. Well overhyped, Warrens golden goose, he aint going to get a decent test for at least another 10 fights. The first puncher he faces he will get burst, just like the hype that follows him. I used to like him until he came out with the classic lines like "fight for a big title in another 5 fights
tit, he's not even fought a decent british fighter yet. Heres a question for everyone, how come when Khan wins half of his family get in the ring, I thought this wasn't allowed?!? bbbofc?? Or is it cause he's super Amir, Warrens pet poodle?

Tyszu/Hatton/Hopkins/Witter/Winky all stayed at the same weight and got far stronger.Top Dog wrote:Hemat get stonger over the years, but he'll also get heavier! I disagree that Khan hasn't progressed. Last time someone came forward against him and tried to take the fight to him he looked pretty panicky and didn't seem to know how to react. He did get caught by Drilzane, but he didn't panic and seemed in control when he was forced back. Limited progress imo, but progress none the less.
